TITLE – “To identify the impact of
globalisation on business functions
and performance of an organisation
– A study on
Tesco”INTRODUCTION
Globalisation is progression through which
beliefs, humanities and local markets comes
together by global network of trade and
communication. The term globalisation is often
utilised to define economic development. It
refers to the integration of national economies
into global economy through foreign investment,
trade, migration, capital flows and spread of
technology or skill. Globalisation of industry or
markets refers to the procedure of unification and
incorporation of the individual global markets
into a sole market. One of the major feature of
globalisation of markets is that it is not important
that the size of the company needs to be large in
order to create a global market (Evrard,
2017).Even small businesses or companies can
develop global market. Factors affecting the
locality of production facilities may vary from
country to country. They might be more
favourable in foreign countries rather than the
home countries due to low taxes or cheap labour
that forces the organisations to develop
production facilities in other nations. It is also
renovating the method in which nations
communicate or interact. Economies of states
become integrated as the flow of goods and
merchandise expands outside the national
boundaries. Less trade barriers or decline in cost
of transport helps in increasing trade among
consumers in other countries and manufacturers
in other. In current business environment,
organisations are more flexible to perform
business functions globally, outlining each and
every stage of producer in the country where it
can be accomplished at least cost. It can also
develop new ideas of communication and new
methods of producing products all around the
world. The present research will identify the
impact of globalisation on business operations
operation performed by Tesco. The research will

Globalisation is a major or critical issue in businesses
in the present world, development of technologies
plays a significant role in the expansion of the
markets and entry of organisations into foreign
markets. It provides business a great opportunity for
the organisations to expand their business operations,
increase there market share, enhance profitability and
performance of the organisational functions all
around the world. According to Intriligator (2017),
globalisation is considered as the procedure through
which the integration market in the global economy
can be enhanced. It is a approach through which an
organisation can perform its business operations at a
larger scale increasing its market. There is a intense
competition in local as well as global market, a
business or company can easily expand its operations
and business in various new markets by entering into
foreign countries. Therefore, it can be said that
globalisation has a positive impact on business or
organisations. Although , there are various negative
impact which can be identified as well including
higher competition, increased investment,
enhancement of risk etc. Bourn (2018), stated that a
company needs a lot of efforts and improvement in
order to enter into a global market Globalisation is
progress through which beliefs, discipline and local
markets comes jointly by global system of trade and
communication. The term globalisation is often used
to specify economic development. The companies
need to develop enhanced chain of communication,
increased workforce, improved network of suppliers
huge capital investment etc, in order to successfully
expand their businesses into global markets.
According to Olimpia and Stela (2017), there are
various other major challenges such as intense
competition & cultural differences being faced by the
organisation such as Tesco while entering into
foreign markets. An organisation needs to change its
business policies in order to overcome the cultural
challenges with respect to specific nation. In order to
enter into a new market it is also important for the
companies to develop new strategies with regard to
the external factors of the business environment in
the new or global market. There are various elements
such as political, legal, economical, technological,
social and environmental factors that highly affect

business operations of an organisation and its
performance. In order to manage the negative impact
of these factors on the business functions it is
essential for the companies to conduct a brief
research on the new foreign market in which it is
planning to expand its operations. The drastic growth
and development of international businesses has
highly shaped by public policy. There are various
impacts of globalisation on a business or organisation
as discussed bellow -
Competition – Globalisation leads to enhanced
competition in businesses, it can be related to
service and product cost, technological adaptation,
target markets etc. When an organisation
manufactures with less cost it is capable to enhance
its market share. Due to increase in competition
companies and foreign brands have been compelled
to improve their consumer benefits and standards
which is affecting people positively at a global level.
Rise in technology – Globalisation has also lead to
rise in the level of technology utilised in the present
world. Many internation companies have achieved
new business opportunities with the help of
technology. For example – increasing use of e-
commerce in most of the businesses. It is one of the
major tools of competition and quality of products
and services (Gunn, 2017). Globalisation has
enhanced the sped of technological transfers and has
also improved overall quality of technological
elements used in businesses.
Fluctuation in prices – Globalisation has leads to
fluctuation in price all around the globe in different
areas. Due to increase in competition, organisations
operating in developed countries are forced to
decrease the prices of their products. For example –
country like china produce goods at a lower cost as
compared to other countries that forces other
organisations or companies in different countries to
reduce their prices in order to maintain customer
loyalty and satisfaction.
Job insecurities – In various develop countries, the
risk related to job insecurity is enhancing.
Globalisation has enabled organisation to outsource
their jobs to other developing countries which has
developed a major issue of less jobs in the
developed counties. Companies are acquiring

labours at low cost in the underdeveloped countries,
it is a big issue raised due to globalisation.
Transfer of knowledge and information
According to Cullingford (2017), Information is
one of the most valuable and expensive factor of
production in the present business environment.
Information can be easily exchanged or transferred
from one country to another due to globalisation
and development of technology. If an organisation
or business have a opportunity to utilise
information and knowledge then it means that it
can adapt to global changes. This challenge or
issue is similar to the technology exchange issue in
international markets. The rapid changes within the
market needs quick transfer of knowledge and
efficient utilisation of information.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES
There are various types of research tools and methods used in an examination such as Research
design, data collection method, sampling etc, which are essential to achieve the aim and objectives every
research. The different kinds of research methodologies that will be used in the present research are
described as below -
Research Type – The research design refers to the logic of an examination that focus on the
method in which research is conducted. The research design determine that use of each and every
component of a research such as measure, programs, treatments etc. All these elements work
together to answer the research questions (Quinlan and et.al., 2018). There are two types of
research designs, explorative and descriptive, in the present research examiner will use descriptive
research design in order to define and explain various types of possibilities related to particular
group of respondents.
Research Design – Any research or examination can be conducted on the basis of their purpose
and nature. There are two major types of research, Qualitative and quantitative research.
Quantitative research is based on numerical information or data, on the other hand Qualitative
research is related to values and meaningful information that provides new ideas. In the present
research examiner will use quantitative research method to identify the impact of globalisation on
Tesco's business operations and performance.
Sampling - It is very essential to select or determine a particular group of participants or
individuals to gather important primary data or information in research. Sampling is one of the

helps in reducing cost, time and other resources in research as the population or participants are
already chosen and are limited. There are two types of sampling methods probabilistic and non-
probabilistic. In the present report research will use probabilistic sampling method by choosing 25
employees in Tesco to collect primary data.
Data collection - The data is collected utilising different methods such as survey, survey or polls
through a specific sample of individuals who can potentially provide most relevant data related to a
study (Srinivas and Babu, 2017). There are two types of data collection primary data collection
method and secondary data collection. Primary data collection includes gathering data or
information through various primary sources such as interview, survey, questionnaires etc. On the
other hand secondary data collection includes collection of data through various secondary sources
such as books journals, previous research etc. In the present research, examiner will focus on both
primary and secondary sources of data collection such as books, previous studies and articles.
Primary data will be collected through questionnaire.
Data analysis method - In this research study, the accumulated data will be analysed with the
assist of thematic data analysed method. Data analysis method will be helpful in understating the

overall idea of the research topic. It is observed that data analysis method is helpful in evaluating
the collected data or information in a compelling and appropriate way. With the assistance of data
analysis technique the data can be collected and it gives essential outcomes with regards to the
exploration subject. In the present research examiner will use thematic analysis to present and
analyse primary collected through questionnaire for employees working in Tesco.
Ethical consideration - Ethical considerations can be referred as one of the most important
component of a research examination. It highly affects research in both negative and positive way.
There are different ethical considerations are as mentioned below -

manner.
2. Respect for the dignity of research participants must be a major priority
3. It is essential to assure the security of privacy related to research participants.
4. Adequate level of confidentiality of the research data must be assured.
5. Any type of incorrect or misleading data or information and representation of primary data
collection in a biased manner should be deflected.
