Description of Assignment: For this unit, you will undertake several activities to
demonstrate your Speaking and Listening skills:
Task 1
Role play paired interview – university interview practice. You will prepare a list of
questions that may be asked in a university interview. You will work with a partner to
interview each other. As the interviewee, you will need to give full and detailed answers,
using formal language as appropriate to an interview format. You will receive feedback from
your partner and then evaluate your own performance, identifying strengths and areas for
improvement. AC 3.1

Task 2
Group discussion. You will participate in a formal group discussion based on a topic set by
your lecturer. You will need to demonstrate your speaking and listening skills in a group
discussion format. You will receive feedback from a peer and then evaluate your own
performance, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. AC 4.1, 4.2 & 4.3 – AC 5.1 &
5.2

Task 3
Individual presentation. You will give a formal presentation on a topic related to your
Nursing studies. Your presentation should be 5 minutes long, followed by questions from the
audience. You are expected to produce a PowerPoint presentation to support your talk, to a
maximum of 6 slides. You are allowed to use note cards if you wish, but you are not allowed
to read from a script whilst you give your talk. You will receive feedback from a peer and your
lecturer, and you will then evaluate your own performance, identifying strengths and areas for
improvement. AC 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 & 1.4 - AC 5.1 & 5.2

Task 4
Listening skills. You will form part of the audience whilst your peers are giving their
presentations. To demonstrate your listening skills, you will complete a table to show you
have understood key learning points from each talk. Your table must show that you have
been able to extract and analyse information from a good range of presentations – minimum
of 8 presentations. AC 2.1 & 2.2
