1.2 Identify the factors that contribute to the process of research project selection
At time of selection of the research topic, there are various factors that influence the
researcher to choose the right subject for investigation. From the past few years, the scholar has
employed in a hotel as an assistant HR manager (Creswell, 2013). During the work, the investigator
has known about the different rewards strategies that use by his organization to motivate the
employees. In order to use the working experience in practical manner, the researcher has decided

to select the current research issue. On the other hand, in order to get the good opportunity of
growth in the career, the author has decided to carry out the study on the selected subject. Along
with this, there are different researches have been conducted on the role of motivational strategies
on employee motivational level in various industries context (Daniel and Sam, 2011). But there are
less evidence has been found rewards strategies on the motivational level of the workforce in the
organizations. So, to overcome that research gap, the researcher has decided to conduct the
investigation on the following subject.
1.3 Undertaking a critical review of key references
Concept of motivation and its role to motivate the employees in an organization
According to Armstrong and Taylor, 2014, “motivation term derives from the word motive
which means moving into action” (Armstrong and Taylor, 2014). It forces the people to act in a way
that ensures the people to fulfil their needs with time. In the organizational context, motivation
refers to a planned managerial process that inspires individual to work to according to their
capabilities so that unfulfilled needs can be complete. Bratton and Gold, 2012 has stated that “it
generates a psychological phenomenon in the person that motivate him to meet his objectives”
(Bratton and Gold, 2012). With the help of this, it becomes easy to develop physical and mental
capabilities of the employees in a company. When the organization motivates it staff member then it
increases their productivity. Along with this, it has provided opportunities to the enterprises to
create a goos market image in the context of the employment. On the other hand, Bruce and Nyland,
2011 asserted that “motivation is an important aspect of an organization because it helps in
overcome resistance to change and negative attitude of the employees” (Bruce and Nyland, 2011). It
has facilitated the management to increase the level of satisfaction of the staff members to take
interest in the organizational goals and manage the changes according to it.

As per the view point of Gannon and Boguszak, 2013, “the rewards strategies can be divided
into Extrinsic and Intrinsic rewards” (Gannon and Boguszak, 2013). The aim of these strategies is
to increase employees’ willingness to work in company and enhance their productivity. Bonus is
one of the reward strategies that mostly use by hospitality industry to motivate the employees in the
right direction. With the help of this, it becomes easy to motivate the staff members in the right
direction. On the other hand, Guha, 2010 has stated that “Salary raise is the most effective reward
strategies that is currently use by hospitality organizations with the aim pt motivating the workers”
(Guha, 2010). This type of reward is beneficial because it stimulates employees in developing their
skills and competence so that they can increase their productivity and performance. In the contrast

of the above statement, Hendry, 2012 has noted that “Gifts is the major reward strategy that has
used by different hospitality organizations in order to motivate the workers” (Hendry, 2012). It
works as a token of appreciation for an achievement with the aim of boosting the self esteem of the
workers in the right direction.

it has made greater impact on the motivation level of the employees. It has increased the
engagement of the workforce in the different business related activities. On the other hand, Kremer
and Hammond, 2013 has asserted that “the effective rewards strategies of hospitality sector have
enhanced the employment relationship between the management and employees” (and Hammond,
2013). It has created the awareness in the workers to attain the objectives of the business. In this
context, Maslow, 2013 has stated that “rewards strategies of the hotel organizations have
communicates effectively the value of the whole reward package” (Maslow, 2013). This has
increased the satisfaction level in the employees which leads to enhance their productivity.
New reward motivational strategies in order to improve motivation level of employees of Hilton

is a need of improvement in this area so that it becomes easy to effectively motivate the workers.

This will help in developing a bond and adds value to the relationship of management and the staff
members. On the other hand, Sandhya and Kumar, 2011 has stated that “by giving recognition to
the works and efforts to the employees, rewards strategies of the cited organization can be
improved” (Sandhya and Kumar, 2011). It leads to boost self-esteem and happiness of the workers
which motivate them to increase their efforts level. With the help of above stated methods, it

Research project specification is an important part of an investigation because it reflects how
a study has been carried out to attain the research objectives. In the context of present research, the
researcher has been used various research methodologies which are as follows:

Research philosophy: A right selection of research philosophy helps in understand the
various factors that can influence the outcomes of the investigation. There are two types of research
philosophy: positivism and interpretivism research philosophy (Fiegen, 2010). When the whole
study is based on the subjective concept which aids the researcher to understand the findings of the
other similar research studies then interpretivism research philosophy takes into the consideration.
On the other hand, when there is a presence of the research objectives in the investigation then
positivism research philosophy can be used (Flick, 2011). The present study is based on determine
the effectiveness of rewards strategies in enhancing motivational level of workforce in Hilton Hotel.
In this study, the scholar has been prepared some research objectives that helped in carried out the
research in the appropriate manner. For this, positivism research philosophy has been selected. With
the help of this, the different objectives have addressed in effective way (Garner and Scott, 2013).
Research approach: It is used to find the solution of the define research problem either by
using theory or testing hypothesis. This can be divided into inductive and deductive research
approach (Research approach, 2015). When the study is carrying out from specific to general
direction than inductive research approach is taking into the use (Gay, Mills and Airasian, 2011).
But when the investigation is moving from particular to general discussion than it comes under the
deductive research framework. In the context of the present research, the researcher has been
selected inductive research approach because the study has started with the general discussion over
the motivation concept and end with the relationship between the rewards strategies and
motivational level of employees of Hilton Hotel (Kriz, Gummesson and Quazi, 2013).
Research design: It is the most important part of the research design which can be divided
into two parts: exploratory and descriptive. In the exploratory research design, the researcher tries to
explore the new theory on the basis of the outcome (Kumar, 2014). For example, why rewards
strategies of Hilton Hotel has affected motivation level of its employees. From this, the reason of
following statement determines by the scholar. On the other hand, in the descriptive research
design, the investigator tests the existing theory on the similar situation (Choosing appropriate

qualitative research type in which a structure questionnaire has been prepared. This has included

Data collection: This is an essential part of the research methodology. Primary and
secondary data collections are two methods of data collection process (McMillan and Schumacher,
2014). For the present study, the researcher has been both the concept in order to gather the data
from different sources. Primary data has collected with the questionnaire process where a structure
questions prepare along with open and close ended questions. On the other hand, the secondary has
been gathered from the various resources such as blog, articles, journals, books, previous research
papers on the same topic, Hilton Hotel human resource audit etc. The both sources have helped the
researcher to get the insight of the research problem in the right manner (Creswell, 2013).
Sampling: For the present investigation, the researcher has been used random sampling
method in order to reduce the biasness during the experiment. The reason of selecting the following
sampling technique is to give the equal chance to all employees of Hilton Hotel to being a part of
the investigation. In this context, the sample sizes of the respondents have 50 units which have
presented the characteristics of whole population (Daniel and Sam, 2011).
Data analysis: With the help of different data analysis technique, it becomes easy to assess
the collected data in the right manner. The data collection type for the present investigation has
qualitative and for this, the researcher has been selected thematic analysis. Under this, different
themes have formulated on the basis of the questionnaire and the responses of each theme has
presented in the form of charts, tables, figures etc (Fiegen, 2010).

helped the scholar to conduct the following investigation in an effective manner. For this,

2.1 Match resources efficiently to the research question
To complete the entire research within the given constrains, the researcher has used three
main resources that can be the research questions. Human resource has one of them from which the
scholar has collected the primary resources to solve the research problems. Another resource in this
context, time has also a resource for the scholar in which the entire research needed to be
completed. For this, a 16 weeks framework has prepared where different time duration has allocated
to each activity of action plan (Garner and Scott, 2013). On the other hand, financial resource has
other resource that has aided the investigator to carry out various research tasks. In order to
effective utilization of this resource, the researcher has used activity based costing methods to
control over the expenses.

As per the above stated research plan, the researcher has carried out the entire investigation

3.1 Using appropriate research evaluation techniques with justifications
With the aim of evaluating the outcomes of research, there are two methods present:
formative and summative research evaluation. When an investigation is carrying out on regular

called formative research evaluation technique. On the other hand, in summative research
evaluation, the results always draw after the completion of the research (Kriz, Gummesson and

context of the present investigation, the researcher has been selected formative research evaluation
technique in order to make sure about validity and reliability of the study.
3.2 Interpretation and analysis the results in terms of original research specifications
Theme 1: In Hilton Hotel, most of the employees are working in organization more than 4 years.
From the results it has been identified that most of the people stays in this organisation for
more than 4 years is due to the motivation they get from the owner's side which is helpful for them
to retain in this organisation. It can be inferred from the above that retaining of the employees for
the long term in this organisation can be due to several reasons such as motivation, financial need of
an individual, global exposure. It has been observed from the above table that out of total sample of
population all employees are retained here for minimum of two years, 3 years, 4 years and more
than 4 years. An individual will retain in an organisation like Hilton who have immense scope as it
is interconnected with various organisations and also expanded their services on a global level. An
individual will get immense scope as they get higher chances to enhance their skills and abilities in
order to improve their overall personality by benefiting their organisations.

From the above outcomes generated by cross questioning with all the existing employees of
the current organisation which reveals the actual business conditions of an enterprise. Most of the
population out of the selected sample of population for identifying the solutions of the different
problems occurred in the path of an entity will be ascertained with the help of above technique.
Majority of employees think motivation in negative sense by taking as a provocation and at the
same time some people also think it as an inspiration as it totally depend the mentality of person
which differs from one person to another person. The efforts applied by an enterprise are not strong
enough in order to encourage their existing personnel by informing all the positive benefits among
them in order to attract them towards the organisation by striving harder for an entity. The

Working in a service industry requires higher level of patience as catering the needs of all the clients
is not easy as their role is to handle wide variety of customers without spoiling the brand image of
Hilton hotel.
Theme 9: Bonuses and Salary raise are those rewards systems that like by the workforce of
Hilton Hotel the most.
Majority of people thinks that increment in the salaries will be prove more beneficiary for all
the workers as their main motive is to get deserving work pay as the increasing workload will
reduce their work efficiency. The efficiency of the employees can be increases by allowing work
based motivation in terms of providing monetary compensation by increasing their salaries.
According to human tendency, the increment in the total salary will divert their mind from all the
negative side of the organisation and shifted their interest only towards the organisation betterment.
The support of the employees will help an entity in return to amend their policies as per the tastes
and preferences of all their employees and they represent the overall organisation's inn front of the
external parties that is the customers.
Theme 10: Hilton Hotel needs to improve its rewards strategies to improve motivational level of
the workforce.
Apart from defining the capabilities and fairness of an entity which will reflected in the
business decisions of an enterprise. The negative side which also emerged inn the front picture that
all the employees of these organisations are fed up about the current rewards systems which needs
modifications to cater the needs and expectations of all the employees. The suggestions and
feedbacks will be helpful for an entity as the support of all the employees will assist an entity in
order to uplift the existing business conditions by increasing their overall scope without hurting an
individual's interests. The support from all the workers is that efficient quality which will enhances
the overall business performance of an entity.
3.3 Recommendation and further research areas
Human resource is the most important assets of the organizations. In the Hilton Hotel, it has
required to make changes in the rewards strategies so that it becomes easy to motivate the
employees. In this context, some recommendations are as follows:
Management should encourage employees to participate in decision making.
Company should be given promotion on the basis of performance.
Verbal praises and recognitions for the works should be given to the employees.
Flex-time should be considered as an important criterion for enhancing employee

motivation.
By creating opportunities for employees to work with teams so that it becomes easy to
increase the employee cooperation (Wininger and Norman, 2010).
In the future, the following study can be carried on a particular reward strategy that can
motivate the staff on Hilton Hotel. Along with this, another study can be conducted on the same
topic but for the other hospitality organization (Kumar, 2014).
