Present report deals with GSK PLCwhich is largest pharmaceutical firm in Brentford, London which uses operations management to carry outdaily operations. Review and critique of implementation of operations management principles will be made.Moreover, effective Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) will be produced with reference to company.INTRODUCTION Mass customization-It is a process in operations management referring to process of products and services which are tailored suiting desires of customers in the market. It is a primary method used in production facilities. This method is quite effective for GSK PLC as it helps to produce mass medicines which are delivered to meet needs of consumers. With the help of mass customization, costs are minimized for making custom-made products which clarifies effectiveness of using this approach. Agile manufacturing-It is another useful method applied to GSK PLC that has effectively created processes, training and development, tools for enabling it to respond within shorter time period to customer needs and also respond to market changes by controlling costs of medicines and ensuring quality in effectual manner.Management control system-MCS is a fruitful system for organization as it gathers and utilizes information for making evaluation of performance of various resources of GSK PLC such as human, physical, financial and also whole effectiveness of company. The pursued strategies are also assessed and firm is able to accomplish desired operations in effectual manner.Six Sigma-It is another effective measure which is used by firm for improving quality of output ofprocess so as to identify and remove defects. Moreover, it aims for minimizing variability in manufacturing and as a result, efficiency in production can be attained. This method has much effectiveness to GSK PLC as it helps to eradicate defects in manufacturing and thus, providing quality of goods to customers.M1 Reviewing and critically implementation of operations management with reference to Six Sigma methodology and lean principlesThe operations' management is crucial for GSK PLC in order to produce and sell its products to its final customers in the best manner possible. It can be critically reviewed that six-sigma methodology is used to remove defects from manufacturing and also minimizing variability in production. This helps to provide quality goods to pharmacies, hospitals and related customers of company. It is a technique for process improvement and aims to provide 99.99 % of all opportunities to produce commodities of GSK PLC which are statistically free of defects. It can be critically evaluated that it has defined steps such as minimize process cycle time, reduce pollution, minimize costs, maximize consumer satisfaction and last step is to achieve profits. Thus, firm achieves desired operations by following these steps. It can be critically evaluated that there are five lean principles such as define value,map the value stream, create flow, establish pull, and pursue perfection. By following theseprinciples, customers' needs are analyzed and then products are made. Inefficiencies arediscovered and eradicated and better values to consumers are provided in the form of qualitymedicines by company.OPERATIONS AND PROJECT MANAGEMENTP1 Conducting review and critique of the implementation of operations management principles in organizationOperations Management is one of the integral functions of the company which is responsible to manage process of creation of commodities and services. This involves planning, organizing, coordinating and controlling resources which are needed in order to produce goods. This core activity of the business in present in every industry be it manufacturing or service and customers are provided with goods. GSK (Glaxo Smith Kline) PLC which is the largest pharmaceutical firm in Brentford, London also uses operations management for attaining business function. For example, marketing function of GSK PLC is to promote new pharmaceuticals to target audience, while finance function ensures that sufficient capital is present for meeting expenses such as for R&D. On the other hand, it is operations function dedicated to planning and coordinating all resources required for designing, producing and delivering pharmaceuticals to pharmacies, hospitals etc. IPO Model-The IPO (Input-Process-Output) model is to identify inputs, output and required processing tasks for transforming inputs into outputs. This model is useful for GSK PLC as it takes raw materials and applies manufacturing procedure and as a result, produces final medicines as output and delivers to pharmacies and hospitals for selling and earning purpose.Flexible specialization-The flexible specialization is important strategy in operations management where GSK PLC equips itself with multiple uses of equipment’s, multi-skilled workers and innovative people. This is done in order to quickly adjust to never static business environment and to meet demands of people. Flexibility is the key which make GSK PLC to make small batches of products.Lean production-The lean production is crucial management approach used for minimizing waste and producingcommodities with superior quality. Lean production is utilized in GSK PLC as it helps to produce medicinesand related pharmacies which lead to attainment of desired output. Minimizing wastage is kept in mind so thatmarket needs may be met and continuous improvement in manufacturing can be done.
