CE 3.2 Project Background
CE 3.2.1 Characteristics of the project
This project is based on the implementation of In-Plant Party/Paging System (IPPS)
Facility in Manifa Central Processing Facilities 900MBCD. The main emphasis of the project
included the following.
 The in-plant paging system would include call-stations, speakers, amplifiers,
acoustic hoods, processing equipment, system cabinet, junction boxes, push-
button panel, cabling, etc. that were required for in-plant party paging.
 Emergency Siren System
 Stop Work Alarm Facility
The construction works for the project would be done by AREA Contractors. Our
proposed in-plant paging system would consist of a disaster control unit (DCC), shift supervisor

office console in central control room, engineering office control and instrument rack room.
Furthermore, the paging system operator station that is. the Desktop Supervision Station would
be installed inside the central control room within the operator console.
CE 3.2.2 Objectives developed for the project
The objectives that were developed for the project were as follows.
 To develop a suitable system for the design and implementation of in-plant paging
system, stop work alarm and emergency siren
 To develop a system architecture for the proposed system
 To perform fiber optic cable provisioning
 To determine equipment specification and provisioning
 To develop engineering drawings for the proposed systems
 To perform tagging and labelling of the equipments
CE 3.2.3 My area of work
My area of work in this project was telecommunications field engineer and my duties in
the project included technical work within the field of my study. During performing my duties in
the project, I needed to apply my technical experience and knowledge that I gained during my
academic career. I also needed to apply creative design work in order to address several technical
problems faced during the course of the project.

CE 3.2.5 My responsibilities throughout the project
During the project, our project manager divided the project duties among the team
members so that the work load on each team member was reduced. I was the telecommunication
field engineer in the project and I was assisted by several other technical associates. In order to
fulfil my work order in the project, I needed to perform the following duties.
 I needed to manage all the tasks in the project by allocating them to the technical
associates involved in the project.
 I needed to develop the system architecture of the proposed system with the help
of my associates in this project.

 I need to prepare engineering drawings for designing the overall paging system
proposed in the project.
 I needed to apply my technical skills along with creative ideas in order to solve
various technical problems and further proceed with the project work.
 I needed to document the activities of the project daily and prepare the final
project report at the completion of the project.
CE 3.3 Distinctive Activity
CE 3.3.1 Comprehending the theory of the project
During the course of my work in the project, I needed to learn about and implement
various industry codes and standards that were needed to be followed for the development of the
paging system. The standards I followed were as follows.

I also needed to ensure the safety and security guidelines of the project. I strongly
emphasized on adhering to the construction standards set by the Saudi Arabian Government as
well as by Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards. I also applied for the land use permits before
proceeding with my work in the project.

CE 3.3.2 Engineering knowledge and skills applied in the project
I explored my engineering knowledge and expertise in the design and development of the
stop work alarm that was proposed in the project. During this development, I performed the
following activities.
As I indicated in the drawing RA-714185.001, I installed the 7 STOPWORK push button
panel.
Accordingly, I installed the 1 STOPWORK push button panel in the DCC room within
the administration building.

I terminated the STOPWORK push button cable in the terminal block and all the cross
connections within the circuit.
I performed installation of the cables that originated from the paging cabinet terminal
block and connected it to the push button panel.
CE 3.3.3 Accomplishment and task performed
During this project, I performed and accomplished the following tasks that were the
perquisites for the completion of my learning course in Telecommunication Engineering.
 I worked on the design and development of the system architecture of the paging
system.
 I determined the load control and page size of the paging system.
 I assisted my teammates in the development of the actual paging system.
CE 3.3.4 Identified issues and their solutions
3.3.4.1 Issues
I faced some technical issues during the course of the project, which are listed as follows.
I. I faced some problem developing the paging system. During this part, I found that
the paging process consumed high memory space and as a result, it did not run
while other processes were running in the system. I also found that manually
closing of other processes required a lot of time.
II. I faced technical problem in the selection of page that was also hampering the
implementation process that I needed to undertake.

3.3.4.2 Solutions
The solutions that I identified for the technical issues were as follows.
I. I implemented load control in the system that would enable the system to close all
other running applications automatically when the paging system was activated. I
used load control using clock page replacement algorithm as it was the most
suitable one for my proposed system.
II. In order to solve the page size problem, I considered certain conditions for the
selection of pages like internal fragmentation, counting of number of processes
that are undertaken by the system under normal conditions and others.
CE 3.3.5 Plan to produce creative and innovative work
I needed to plan creative technical work in order to address various technical difficulties
as well as enhance the overall quality of the project. I contacted with the MCP-T IPPS contractor
in order to install and commission the Voice and Alerting system that I wanted to link to the
IPPS cabinet using the link to the telephone system. Accordingly, I coordinated with the MCP-T
SCS coordinator in order to gain suitable provision of two telephone lines into the IPPS cabinet.
I also installed this cabinet in the Rack of CCR Building in Manifa CPF. I also made provisions
for the cable, installation, termination and commissioning of the phone facility that I also used
for connecting the Voice alerting to the IPPS system. I also worked in close coordination with
the my teammates as well as theMCP-T Voice, MCP-T Alerting Contractor, Telephone
contractor, and Saudi Aramco representative for the installation and commissioning of the link
from Voice and Alerting System to the IPPS system.

CE 3.3.6 Collaborative work
Collaborative work was essential to complete the entire project within the timeline set by
our project manager. Since, I was assisted by several technical associates, I always emphasized
on team work and asked my associates to work together instead of performing works
individually. This not only reduced the overall work load on each associate, it also enabled them
to solve problems and issues easily. I also took part in the project activities in collaboration with
the associates and finally, I was able to submit the final project within the pre-set deadline.

CE 3.4.1 Project Overview
The main objective of this project was to develop a party/paging system for Saudi
Arabian Oil Company. However, due to the broad scale of the project, the overall scope of the
project was huge and hence, we needed to identify certain specific deliverables for the project.
Accordingly, we decided to work on the development of system architecture, testing and
commissioning of the industrial equipments and development of stop work alarm and emergency
siren. I was able to deliver the completed project within the deadline set by the project manager
and we received positive appraisal from the supervisors.
CE 3.4.2 My contribution to work
I was an active contributor of the project and since I was the leading member of the
project, I needed to supervise the entire project in addition to performing my own personal duties
in this project. I assisted my team members in developing system architecture and its
implementation in the real scenario. I also added my own technical and creative views to
