Background to IT Issues
Their Business critical application isConsole SQL DB whichuses a SQL server which is hosted in-
house and has the following hardware and software configuration. You are not required to manage
the installation and deployment of this SQLserver software but you are toprovide a server
environment that is capable of running the SQL server. The business also accesses a cloud based
software as a service (SaaS) called eSales that has potentials of Active Directory Sync if ABC Real
Estate are able to migrate to Windows 2012 R2 server environment. Here again, you do not need to
scope the Active Directory Snyc project work for this SaaS.
Due to virtualisation requirement for future applications and client web portal, ABC Real Estate needs
to procure a server environment running on Linux which could be provided on the same single server
hardware, virtualised, with the two Network Operating Systems Linux and Windows 2008 or 2012
installed.
For Linux Network operating systems, web portal vendor preference are on Fedora Version 19 till 22.
For test environment purposed client requires only 1 workstation PC installed with Linux workstation
operating system.
Current Server Specification
Configuration Value
Processor Intel i7 4 core Processor @ 2.8Ghz/core
Memory 8GB
Disks 1x 1TB Disk
Network 1 Gbps
Volumes C:\ (OSDISK) – 78GB Free/150GB Total
D:\ (DATA) – 201GB Free/781GB Total
OS Windows 2008 R2 SP1
SQL SQL 2008 Express Edition
SQL Database Size ~9GB
NOTE: Users do not have Remote Access and the administrator only uses VNCVirtual Network
Computing to remotely connect to his/her workstation.
Current issue:
1. Business critical server is an Intel ‘whitebox’ (PC) and not a reliable/commercial product.
2. 8GB of RAM is not sufficient for SQL server hosting a 9GB database with multiple concurrent
access.
3. There is no disk redundancy either through RAID or otherwise on the business critical server.
4. Network equipment is home/SOHO grade and not suitable for a small business.
5. There is no consistent method for remote access.
6. Backup methodology is proprietary application dependant and error-prone due to reliance
on physical intervention.
7. Rack/IT equipment does not have any physical security.
8. There is no backup power supply or UPS.
9. 5 x work station PC for Administration staff are running on windows XP which needs to be
upgraded to windows 7 or 8 with new hardware.

Executive Summary
The report is prepared for ABC Real Estate office for the management of relocation of the 5 smaller
office into a new bigger office. The contract for assessment of the current ICT service and hardware
infrastructure and propose a suitable solution has been provided to XYZ ICT consulting Pty Ltd. For
the proposal of the new infrastructure the server requirements is evaluated and a suitable network
operating system is proposed that would handle the SQL server and eSales application. The
configuration that are needed to be performed on the network is given in the report along with the
network diagram and the IP addressing scheme that would help to understand about the details of
the network. A network policy manual is created for defining the services offered by the network
and the restriction. The need of data migration is evaluated and documented in the report along
with a network functional matrix listing the devices and its use for the development of the network.
The report also attaches the backup and recovery requirement and billing of materials for estimating
the budget of network development. The project task is broken down and a down time and
contingency plan is prepared including the cost for completion of each of the task. In the last section
of the report a project approval and client sign off document is used for the validation of the
document structure.

Introduction:
A virtualized environment is needed to be prepared for ABC Real Estate Office for the management
of the organizational growth and solving the current problem faced by the users. The current
specification of the server is evaluated for analysing the problems and proposing the new server that
is needed to be implemented for running Windows server 2012, Microsoft SQL server and Fedora in
a single instance. An evaluation is made on the remote access requirement and an appropriate
backup methodology is suggested such that no data is lost during migration and error. The security
requirement and management of access to files and information is needed to be implemented based
on the hierarchal framework. A research is made on the equipment’s needed for the development of
the network and the cost the device is documented for development of a budget of the project.
Project Objective:
The main objectives for the development of the network solution are given below:
To evaluated the current network infrastructure and identify the problems in the network
To propose a network solution for the organization to eliminate the current problems
To create an IP addressing scheme for configuring the network devices and allow expansion
for meeting the future growth of the company
To create a network policy for improving the security and eliminate the internal threat acting
on the network.
To identify the data migration requirements and create a data backup plan
To identify the cost of equipment and software licensing

Current Infrastructure:
The current network of ABC Real estate used an ADSL connection for transferring of data over the
copper wires of an existing phone line and form an internet connection. It is used such that both the
phone and internet at the same time. It is better than the dial up connection because it allows to
access the internet simultaneously while making a phone call. An ISDN connection is used as a
backup and it provides digital connectivity to the end to end devices for the voice and data using
multiple multiplexed communications and employment of signalling protocol over the multiple
channels. The ISDN connection is slower than the ADSL connection and it can be replaced with
another ADSL connection for improving the reliability of the network.

Proposed IT Infrastructure:
Server Requirements/Configuration:
Dell PowerEdge T330 Tower Server is selected for handling the multiple service and operation that is
currently required by the organization i.e. the server should be able to virtualise two operating
systems, one instance of Window 2012 to host the SQL server, and another instance to host the
client web portal using Fedora.
Therefore we choose the hardware and software listed as follows:
Hardware:
Processors: Intel Xeon E3-1230 v6 Quad-Core 3.5GHz 8MB CPU
Memory: 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHz Unbuffered Memory
Hard Drive: 8TB (4 x 2TB) 7.2K 6Gb/s SATA 3.5" HDDs in RAID, Aventis Essentials: 3
Server Details:
Dell PowerEdge T330 Tower Server $2,799.00
Windows 2016 STD OS
Intel Xeon E3-1230 v6 Quad-Core 3.4GHz 8MB
32GB DDR4 RAM
8TB Storage, RAID, Single PSU
3 Year Warranty
Price - $2,799.00
Suitable Network Operating System/Services:
The corresponding Operating System can be: Windows Server 2016
Network Requirements/Configuration:
A RAIDUS server is needed to be deployed in the network for the management of remote
authentication and connect the new site using VPN such that data can be securely transmitted
between the new site and the old office. The server is needed to be deployed for hosting the
WebPortal and configure it to meet the requirement of the organization. The router and switch is
configured as VLAN for management of the access of the different department to the server.

Downtime and Contingency Plan:
Scheduled downtime
We propose a 30 minutes downtime on every Friday evening outside of business hours to
install security patches for workstations and servers.
Hardware failure
In case of hard drive failure for the server, since we are using RAID 0 configuration, we can
rebuild the entire RAID with no data loss. In the unlikely case of simultaneous hard drive
failures, we can restore from backup.
In case of server hardware failure, we will fallback to the old server until the new server
equipment can be replaced.
Power outages
In case of power outage the UPS will be able to provide 110 minutes of power for the
estimated load, it should provide ample time for staff to save and backup their work.
Backup Strategy
We recommend using the grandfather-father-son rotation scheme for the tape backup.
These are scheduled on monthly, weekly, daily respectively, with another 3 monthly backup.
Some of the tapes should be moved offsite for safe keeping in case of major disaster such
as fire.
