INTRODUCTION Employability skills are defined as transferable skills that are required by an individual in order to make them employable (Arnedillo-Sánchez, De Aldama and Tseloudi, 2018). In the following report, Travelodge has been taken into consideration. It is a Private limited company that are operating in hotels and also in Hospitality industry all over UK. Inthefollowingreport,developmentofownskillsandresponsibilitieshasbeen explained. Further,solutions to work based problems and strategies related to time management and problem solving has been discussed. It also discusses about different roles of team and team dynamics along with motivational technique to maintain work quality. TASK 1 1.1 Developing own responsibilities and performance objectives Role- The role of assistant manager of Travelodge has been taken into consideration.The job description of assistant manager of travel and tourism sector is to plan and sell transportations, accommodations, insurance and other services related to travel. They also have to cooperate with clients and customers in order to determine their requirements and also advice them with proper destination (Bremner, 2018). Thus, being assistant manager of Travelodge, my responsibilities and performance objectives has been discussed as per below context- Responsibilities To ensure thatpoliciesof companyarebeing followed-Thisbecomesmy basic responsibility if I am playing a role of assistant manager in Travelodge. Thus, I will have to ensure that the policies of my company in terms of rules and regulations are followed by members following me. Hiring, training and developing new employees- Employees play very essential role in order to achieve long term success in business. Therefore, it becomes my responsibility to hire talented candidates and provide with effective training and development so that they get motivated and perform in efficient manner. Providing leadership and direction to employees- I also have to provide high level leadership and direction to my workers. Individual Performance appraisal system- This is a systematic process that helps in assessing about the performance of individual related to job and also in relation with productivity of a particular organisation. Further, I will also have to raise their salary level as per their performance. In addition to this, performance appraisal system will also help in determining about those individuals those who has to be promoted or rewarded which in turn will increase motivation level of them and their efforts to work hard in the task to which they are allocated with. Rating method- Rating method will also be effective for me to a great extent. In this the top rank employee are given the best pay and incentives. This will further help me in increasing productivity and also the profitability of a cited brand. Further, it also leads me in analysing high talented or skilled employees that will result towards success easily and smoothly so that I can plan accordingly. In addition to this, this method basically works even faster in order to determine those areas where training and development is needed. 1.3 Recommendations for improvement. As appraisals are termed as the best way in which workers can improve their skills accordingly. Thus, this technique will be termed as effective if verbal communication is used by me to engage team members towards them. I must also deliver my feedback and 2
also try to relate appraisals with that of business goals (Collet, Hine and du Plessis, 2015). Further, to improve skills of employees I may provide them with different task, so that it will help me in improving their skills by developing new methods and techniques which will be required to accomplish particular task. I must also try to conduct meetings that will help me in making employees aware about the goals that has been targeted for future success of Travelodge. Further, I must also respect workers that are working with me, which will make them feel valued and will try to push maximum efforts to achieve targeted goals of particular firm. 1.4Reviewingaboutmotivationaltechniquesthatcanbeusedtoimprovequalityof performance. Motivation is defined as the process that helps in stimulating people or individual to particular action in order to achieve targeted objectives. Thus, ways in which employees of Travelodge gets motivated includes the following- Incentives and reward system- This is termed as an act of promise in order to achieve greater action. Thus, Travelodge must provide with high level incentive that will boost their performance in adequate manner. Further, hope for reward by staffs is to get powerful incentive for their performance or efforts. This further leads Travelodge in motivating them. This system to motivate employees also includes satisfaction towards job, security, promotion and pride of accomplishment. Managers role- Manager are the one who plays essential role in motivating their staffs. As they can provide with effective feedback for their performance either positive or negative so that they can enhance their skills accordingly. Moreover, Travelodge must also try to engage their members in decision making process and make them feel free to share their ideas and views. This will help firm to select best solution or idea for business. Self motivation- This also plays essential role to perform task effectively. This allows workers in order to improve their work related performance to achieve goals targeted by Travelodge. They must also try to think in positive way and may also keep positive attitude to be self motivated. TASK 2 2.1 Developing solutions to work-based problems. Gap of communication- As a assistant manager of Travelodge, it has been identified that cited firm is facing with huge problem related to communication skills (Lydon and Hughes, Appirio Inc., 2015). These skills are extremely significant in work environment and also in maintaining personal relationships. Further, it also leads in heavy stress that causes employees to hurry and feel tensed or overworked. Thus, to overcome this problem, Several team meetings must be conducted. In this meeting, they must be informed that they are free to share their views and ideas related their work. Further, they must also hire experts that may provide with effective training and development session which will lead them in enhancing this skill to high extent. Thus, all this will be termed as the most beneficial for Travelodge in order to increase productivity and long term success in organisation. Low level of customer service- The other problem that is faced by company is lack of under level customer service department which is directly affecting customer satisfaction. As customer service department is very essential in order to solve various problems that might affect growth or profitability of an organisation. Thus, it affects organisation as they cannot identify the actual problem from which solution can be generated and also in implementing it for further success. While, to overcome this situation, the cited company must try to identify issues and also understand requirements of each member. Further, training must be provided or counsellors must be adopted so that they can find out problem and enhance their skills accordingly. In addition to this, social skills can also be developed by organising social activities. They have lot of contacts with everyone that are involved for betterment of a team. They acts in good way in order to develop new contacts or maintain existing ones. Team worker- they are termed as most sensitive behaviour of a particular team. They are basically focused in order to create pleasant atmosphere and also sense of togetherness. Co-ordinator- they always look after procedures and further assist members in such way that they clarify their intentions (Ryan, 2016). They always trust other workers or members and also leave high load of work on others. Plant- they are one of the innovative thinker of whole team. They sometimes misses about requirement of others from them and are not always practical. Monitor Evaluator- If person is play this role, then they will have to be sensible, critical and also thoughtful. Further, judgement that has been determined by them are always correct and may also deliberate long. They always try to be perfect and monitors safety and quality of work. 3.2 Analysing team dynamics. Team dynamics are defined as unconscious, psychological forces that mainly has great influence on direction of behaviour and performance of a particular team (Tan, 2016). Thus, stages of team development has been discussed as per below context- Forming- this is first stage where team is developed. Here, team member tends to behave in independent manner as they are unknown to each other to those who are involved in this stage. Therefore, they cannot trust anyone and has to work independently. Thus, leader must ensure that all members are involved in order to determine roles and responsibilities. Storming- As members start working together, they compete with each other to acquire status. In this stage, team leader must ensure that every member are listening to each other and also respect their differences. Norming- this is beginning of that stage where members starts working as a team in effective manner. Here, togetherness has been taken into consideration rather than working independently. Leader must only move things when members stuck and also ensure that they are working collaboratively. Performing- In this stage, members that are involved work in effective manner and do not require any kind of guidance or supervision. There is also a huge possibility that team may get reverted back to another stage if any member starts working independently. Adjourning- This is the last stage where leader has to ensure that this is a time of celebration and also capture pictures that may lead them in future use. The alternative ways have been described below- High communication skills- Communication skills plays very essential role in Travelodge in order to maintain and build good relationship with everyone those are involved in cited organisation. Thus, this leads team in completing their task in quick and efficient way by saving maximum amount of time (Taylor, 2016). Further, effective communication also assist team members of Travelodge in understanding roles of everyone that are involved. Organising- This is termed as the most important way in order to complete task that has been allocated to employees in easy and effective manner. Organising of task helps them to access those things that is required easily. This will also lead them in working in focused manner to achieve targeted goals. TASK 4 4.1 Evaluating tools and methods for developing solutions for problems. Methods in developing solution for problems in Travelodge has been discussed as per below context- Figure out problem- This is the first step in which Organisation has to ensure that they are trying to solve correct problem. Further, they also have to be clear about problem and separate the listings from interest identification. Analyse problem- In this step, the issue is analysed deeply. They also have to focus on occurrence of it and also about circumstance that may impact on it. Classifying decision criteria- Travelodge must therefore define clearly about desires that may lead and about every decision making process. They have to classify about the criteria regarding decision (Van Aken and Berends, 2018). Coming up with more than one solution- The information that is gathered must be used further in order to gather possible solution to that problem. Thus, there is involvement of every member that is involved in a particular group which will later provides with number of innovative solutions. While candidate that wont match culture and behaviour of business wont stay long and will try to take their high skills and talents where they will fit.This will help Travelodge to reduce employee turnover. Allowing flexible work schedules- This is also effective strategy that can be used by Travelodge. This helps employees to adjust their time of work and also location and can create work life balance for themselves. 4.3 Evaluating potential impact on business of implementing strategy. Implementation of various strategies on business plays significant role in order to achieve long term profitability of business (Wolff and Booth, 2017). Thus, the strategies that has been mentioned which includes hiring right people and allowing flexible work schedules will help business to increase retention level of employees to large extent. If right candidate is hired as per requirement of position, then it will increase interest of worker in their allocated task and will try to put maximum effort to bring out positive outcome. Further, work schedule plays huge role in retention and high turnover of employees, if work schedule is maintained by them, than it will increase enthusiastic power of worker as they become stress free and work in effective manner. Thus, implementation of particular strategy plays important role in achieving long term success of Travelodge. CONCLUSION From the above report, it has been analysed that Role of manager in industry is very difficult as they have to manage variety of works accordingly, further, it has also been analysed that motivational techniques has been described with the helps of Adams equity theory in order to maintain quality of work.
