INTRODUCTION
Working with leading people is very important part of any management study. In this it
tells about how to work with other people in effective and efficient manner .In other words it can
be say that it builds the leadership style in a person and teaches how to work and coordinate
with a team (Mendenhall, 2012). This project is based on The United Parcel Service which is the
largest parcel service provider in UK. The below project explains the impact of legal ,regulatory
and ethical consideration to the recruitment and selection process , selection process , skills and
attributes that is required in a leader and styles of leadership , how to motivate the employees for
help in in achieving the objective and benefits of team working in an organisation and factors
involved in planning and monitoring or assessing the work performance of employees.
TASK 1
1.1 Documentation to select and recruit a new staff
In United Parcel Service ,mostly employees are leaving the organisation because of some
leadership or management problems . As a HR manager of UPS company, he has to identify the
requirement of employees and decides what skills and experience is required in employees for
the specific job (Bush and Middlewood, 2013). The HR department of UPS company is required to
prepare the following documents for the selection and recruitment process-
 Approval of document related to job- Before starting the recruitment process ,a HR has
to take approval from the related authority of the organisation for recruitment and
selection. After this whose department is needed the new employees, they will sent the
report to HR manager. This report will contain the needed amount of employees ,job
designation and skills and experience that is required for that designation (Lev, 2013). The
process of recruitment will not be started until and unless authority will give the
permission to HR department.
 Job analysis and job description- Before announcing about the job vacancy ,HR
department has to describe about the job description that is permitted by the authority.
Position descriptions includes role and responsibilities of that job ,skills and experience
required for that position ,working in that job etc (Goetsch and Davis, 2014).

 Announcing about job vacancy- After deciding the position description, A HR of UPS
COMPANY announces about the job vacancy publicly. The announcement of job
vacancy must be approve by executive director of HR department. It can announce
through newspaper.
1.2 The impact of legal ,regulatory and ethical considerations to recruitment and selection
process
The recruitment and selection process is affected by laws and regulation of the
government. While doing the recruitment and selection of an employees, HR manager of UPS
Company should be aware about the rules and regulation and laws of government as well as of
the company (Welch, 2014). These laws helps the UPS company in regard to risk , job
posting ,interview question etc. There are some questions if HR manager asked those question to
the applicant of the job then it will be unethical and violation of laws. So these laws protected the
applicant from the unethical behaviour and discrimination which can be done by the employer
while doing recruitment and selection. There are many types of laws which impact the
recruitment process which are as follows-
 At the time of announcing HR manager should ensure that there should be no
discrimination on the basis of sex ,cast etc. and be ensured that there should be no
breaching of laws in advertising (Day, 2014).
 These laws also affects the interview stage. According to laws, no employer has right to
ask question in the interviews that is related to the religion ,colour etc.
 According to law ,while giving the employment ,HR manager should check that
candidate should have right to work in UK or not. He should not have any criminal
record.
1.3 Take part in selection process
HR department is the most important part of an organisation. It have many no. of task
that have to perform in an organisation like recruitment ,selection etc (Offstein and Morwick, 2011).
HR Department takes part in selection process in the following ways-
 Firstly HR manager identifies the panel that will appoint the new employees for the UPS
company.
 Then prepare and plan for advertising related to recruitment and decides by which
source ,recruitment will be done {internal or external}.

 Receives the application forms and registers it HR database registers and sends the
acknowledgement letter to the applicant.
 Arrange the interview according to the availability of interviewer panel.
 After that panel takes an interview and selects them according to the requirement and
need of the organisation and job specification and competency of the individual (Fraley and
et.al., 2011).
 After completion of interview, HR manager sends offer letter or rejection letter.
 Then he prepares all new contacts and packages like salary ,training period etc.
 At last he checks all information of selected candidates like their police records ,PAN
cards etc.
1.4 Evaluation own contribution to the selection process
In an organisation ,a HR is very important part in an organisation. He plays very vital role
in recruitment and selection process. As a HR ,I have contributed in recruitment selection
process like I analyse the requirement of new employees ,take approval for recruitment,
announcing publicly about job vacancy ,selects the panel for interview and receive the
application from the applicant who want to join USP company willingly, arrange all things
related to the job or interview and at last conducted interview process and prepares documents
for new appointed employees like offer letter ,terms and condition of employment and checks all
important factors or documents like new employees should not have any criminal record ,driving
license, PAN card and new employees have right to work in UK or not and sent the letter of
rejection to the rejected candidate (Stubbs and et.al., 2014).
In addition to all above thing ,I contributes in maintaining the good environment in the
company and for achieving the objectives of organisation, I co-ordinated with other department
like production department ,finance department, marketing department etc.
TASK 2
2.1 Skills and attributes needed for leadership
A leader is very important person in an organisation that helps in achieving the
organisation goal . Leader is that person who leads the organisation and guides and motivate the
employees for working in a team for achieving the specific goal (Mishel and et.al., 2012). They

establish a clear vision so that their team members can follow them. If a leader has following
skills and qualities then he will be treated as good leader. Qualities are as follows-
1. Motivation skills- For becoming a good leader ,he should have motivation skills so that
he can encourage and motivate his subordinate for achieving the specific goal.
2. Decision-making skills- A good leader is that person who can take take decision
instantly and immediately in any situations (Miller and Rollnick, 2012). He should be able to
grab the opportunities and advantages of the favourable situations.
3. Confidence- A leader should have confidence upon him. He should not be afraid in any
situation whether it is critical situation or favourable situation (Kouzes and Posner, 2011). He
should be able to eliminate all barrier and worries.
4. Problem solving skills – A good leader is that person who are able to solve the
problems accurately and immediately whenever they arises.
2.2 Difference between leadership and management
Management means to manage the all things in an organisation in that way that functions
of organisation can run smoothly and without any barriers so that they can help in achieving the
organisation goals.
Management leadership
 A manager is responsible for making
strategy and its implementation.
 They makes the budget for the entire
organisation.
 Manager is accountable for organising
the work in different different
department (Schumacher, 2011).
 Managers must have ability to control
and manage the entire organisation and
 Leader should be able to guide and
motivate the employees so that they can
help in achieving the organisation
goals. It also helps in implementing the
policies.
 They works in an organisation
according to the budget.
 A leader has good vision that is spread
out to their followers so that they can
follow it.
 Leader must have the influencing
power and motivating power so that

manage and eliminate that barrier that

employees by their acts ,speech etc.
 Leader should increase their
influencing over employees.
2.3 Leadership style for different situations
Leadership style means that in what way ,a leader is dealing with their employees and in
what manner he is motivating ,directing , guiding and implementing the policies. At last leader
takes the final decision related to their employees. A leader can handled the employees in
different different styles which are as follows-
 Autocratic style- In this style a leader doesn't take any suggestion from the sub
ordinates. In this he follows the following rules “Boss is always right”. He doesn't listen
to any one and gives only order to them and takes decision only (Hodges, 2016). In this
style subordinates don't feel god and motivates for working in efficient and effective
manner.
 Democratic style- In this style, leader takes suggestion from the subordinates and
contributes in the working process. In this leader involves the employees while taking
any decision .In this style subordinates motivates and encourage for doing work
efficiently and effectively and becomes loyal and committed towards the company and
helps in achieving the goals (Hodges, 2016)

 Free rein style- In this style, leader assigns the task to the subordinates and ask them for
completing the task within time period (Mendenhall, 2012). Leader gives the freedom to
subordinates whatever they want they can do but task should be completed with in time.
2.4 Way to motivate the staff to achieve objectives
There are different different approaches for motivating the employees for achieving the
objectives. UPS Company adopts the following approaches for motivating the employees-
 Adequate payments- if employer will pay the adequate and sufficient amount to the
employees in exchange of work then employees will get motivated and will perform
effectively and efficiently that will help in achieving the objectives (Bush and Middlewood,
2013).
 Treat employees with respect- if employer will treat the employees with respect and
will behave in mannered form than employee will be motivated and become committed
towards the organisation.
 Gives rewards and incentives- if employer will give rewards and incentives to
employees for their work than it will also motivate them for working then they will give
their 100 % in the organisation (Lev, 2013)
 Involvement in decision making – If employer will involve the employees in decision
making then employees will be motivated because they will assume themselves as a
member of the organisation and will work hard for the achievement of the objectives.
 Training – Training is given to employees for enhancement in skills and knowledge that
will help in performing the specific task ( Peterson, 2011). With the help of training,
employees get motivation and encourage for work in effective manner that will help in
achievement in objectives.
TASK 3
3.1 Assess the benefits of team-working and its effectiveness in team working
There are various benefits of working with a team in an organisation. If UPS Ltd. Wants
to increases its productivity and its performance, the organisation must to work in team with all
departments. A team is related with a group of peoples, in which all of them are working for a
similar tasks (Goetsch and Davis,2014). Teams are play s an very critical role in an organisation as
well as an employees personal lives. Team works improves communication among all

employees, so that can easily understand each other thoughts. It can be helpful in achieving
organisation task and also establishes a healthy competition between employees.
Team building also generate a learning environment from employee to employee,
because they can sharing their thoughts and new ideas. If employees of UPS Ltd. Sharing ideas
with each, they can be able to find a relevant and quick solution of problems. When peoples
works together, they have modify skills, and with the help of these skills they are capable to
perform in any tough situation (Welch, 2014). Team work also increases productivity and
organisation is able to achieve their task and goals. It makes easier the decision making process
of the organisation, and it is also a brainstorming of peoples who are participated in decision
making activities of the business.
3.2 Demonstrate the importance of working in a team as a leader and member
If an business organisation wants to working as team, it must have to put a senior
member or a leader on group of peoples. Team leader plays a key of success in every business
enterprise. UPS Ltd. Also implemented these mentors on their employees, to judge their
performance of those employees. There are reason, that explains the importance of team leader in
UPS Ltd. Such are as follows:-
Providing guidance:- A team leader of the company, judging that workers are fulling their roles
and responsibilities. Guidance involves, training and instruction to the employees to team
members and helping in taking corrective steps when necessary (Day, 2014)
Promotes values:- If team leaders fulfilling their tasks and roles, it is beneficial for UPS Ltd. It
plays an crucial roles in maximising the productivity of the business. Teams leaders are roles for
employees, because they provides them suitable guidance and instruction at the time it needed.
Building Morale:- Team leaders ensures high morale for team members. They always motivated
employees to perform well and develops confidence of team workers (Offstein,2015 )
3.3 Review the effectiveness of the team
Team building is very essential for every organisation. It can helps in an organisation to
specify goals and aims of the company. For UPS ltd. It very necessary to establishes a team,
there is mention below effectiveness of team. Such are as follows:-
Makes easier communication:- A team makes easier communication between employee to
manager. Employees can easily share their thoughts and problems to the employees. An effective

team leader conducts meetings to know that what is status of the task, and if they find any query
so managers can makes quick and relevant solution of the problem (Offstein and Morwick, 2011 ).
Goals:- the primary role of a team, it is to developed the performance of the employees, so that
organisation goals can be easily achieves. An effective team clearly defines the goals and future
plans to the employees, and then they performs according to the needs of the business, Along
with this, UPS Ltd. Is able to achieves its targets and goals, it also increases productivity. In
every business organisation goals are defined as success factor of the business and they improves
the value of the business in external market (Fraley and et.al., 2011).
TASK 4
4.1 Factors involved in planning and monitoring and assessment of work performance-
Performance assessment means to evaluate the performance of the employees and ensure
that they are performing according to the standard or not. If not then take corrective action. It is
done for improving the efficiency and productivity of the employees. It is important task for
achieving the objectives. There are many factors that are involved while planning for the
assessment of work. Some of them are as follows-
 Firstly UPS company should set the standards of the performance that every employees
have to follow.
 Then should ensure that there are proper resources that will help the employees in
improving their performance (Fraley and et.al., 2011).
 Decides the strategies that can improve the performance of the employees.
 At last before implementing the strategy ,it should be ensured that strategies are properly
framed.
While monitoring the performance following points should be considered-
 supervisor should check performance on a regular basis (Welch, 2014).
 For motivating the employees there should be designed the incentives plan so that
employees will perform according to the standards.
 If any employee is performing better then appreciate him.
 There should be proper evaluation of performance and then take corrective action.

4.2 Plan and deliver the assessment of development needs of individuals
It is important to evaluate the development need of an individual for improving the
performance. So for evaluating the development needs of an individual there should be framed
and implemented proper policies (Mendenhall, 2012) .for evaluating the development needs of an
individual ,planning should be done in a following manners-
 Assessing the competency- firstly HR manager should assess the capability of the
individual for performing the specific task. This assessment gives the clear cut idea about
the individual strength and weaknesses.
 Determination of organization objective- The objectives of organisation should be
clear that helps in assessing the required level of efficiency and competency.
 Listing development activities- In this stages efficiency of the individual or required
level of efficiency are highlighted (Bush and Middlewood, 2013).
 Accumulation of resources- After comparing the actual capabilities and standard
capabilities are compared with other and then collects the resources that is requires for
the development of efficiency.
4.3 Evaluation of success of the assessment process
Training should be provided to the employees for working in efficient and effective
manner because today time is changing time so training is very important at this time. After
providing the training,evaluation should be done for measuring the result of training. Assessment
and evaluation is done when employees identified their objectives (Lev, 2013). If the factors
involved in the evaluation of performance are giving the positive point then it will be assumed
that assessment of performance is success. For the success of assessment of performance
following points should be considered-
 supervisor should examine on a regular basis.
 Should conduct interview or filled the questionnaire by the employees.
 Should take practical examination.
 Should check the outcome of the performance.
 Should provide the individual task.
 Evaluating the developmental plan and assess the achievements of the individuals and
check the assessment procedure (Peterson, 2011).

CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned report it has been summarized that leadership is very
important for an organisation for achieving the objectives. Leader can motivate the employees by
giving rewards ,incentives ,training that will improve the employee's performance and leader
should adopt the democratic style for increase the morale and motivation of the employees . A
HR manager should select those candidates that have capability for performing the specific task.
For achieving the objective and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the
employees ,employer should conduct performance appraisal and should set the standards for
performance and than compare the actual performance and standard performance and take
corrective action if required.
