Any event no matter how big or small largely depends on the venue selected for assessing the
real success or failure of the same. The more appropriate is the venue choice the easier it is for
the event organizers to reach to its target audience and communicate better the total event
prospects.
Thus, considering the Vancouver Convention Centre East Building for hosting the next
big biking event one needs to conduct a complete venue research and analysis to understand the
desirability of the decision.
A brief overview of this chosen Venue:
This venue is explicitly attractive because of its surrounding natural beauty. Considered
as one of the most beautiful settings in the world with its strong connectivity and easy
transportation access across the major towns and cities of the area. The venue has the capacity to
attract more than thousand attendees each year thus promising substantial revenue for the event
organizers. Since 1986, when the Convention Centre hosted its first World Fair Expo has
immensely grown in its size and amenities and today it is recognized as one of the major leading
convention centers of the world (Sant, Mason and Hinch, 2013.). This building located on
Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, along with magnificent
infrastructural design claiming 466,500 square feet of pre-function, exclusive meeting, exhibition
and ballroom space, along with the capacity to host multiple events simultaneously and
accommodating more than 16000 delegates makes it a LEED Platinum certified convention
facility (Vancouver Convertion Centre, 2019). Therefore a biking event will no doubt require a
huge space and well-built infrastructural support to make the event an overall success. A biking

and cycling event demands not only a well-built infrastructural support but associating with
major groups and communities who are primarily associated with this sport and can lend the
required support for pulling up a successful show. This is another prime reason why Vancouver
has been topping the choice list as the biking culture of this place is quite strong and naturally it
would be easy to attract more attendees in the proposed event.
Venue and its Sustainability:
Now particularly focusing about the sustainability aspect that the venue upholds it is noteworthy
to mention that this LEED® Platinum certified building incorporates the latest green
technologies which includes:
The man attraction of the West Building is its six acres living roof which is undoubtedly
the largest non-industrial living roof in North America which features more than 400, 000
types of indigenous plants and grasses (Vancouver Convertion Centre, 2019).Its unique
design acts as an insulator intended to reduce the heat during summers and conserve the
heat during winters.
There is also a restored marine habitat built into the very foundation of the West building
which has dramatically improved the water quality of the area and has also helped in
restoring the biodiversity of the sea life.
The black water treatment plants is meant to recycle the waste water which is again used
in for toilets and washroom to put an end to undue waster of water resources.
The kitchen premise of the building is built around supporting organic functioning. Also
known as ‘scratch’ kitchen which primarily supports the use of fresh, local and seasonal
