In United Kingdom, there are different types of
organisations who are providing services and support
to boost heritage and cultural tourism in country. They
are liable for maintaining, preserving and protecting
these sites. They work collaboratively to combine
resources and achieve results in an efficient and
effective manner. Among these organisations there are
Department of media, culture and sport and Woodland
trust are two most prominent organisations in this
field.
Department of media, culture and sport is a
government entity which regulates all the activities of
organisation currently working in this field. It assists
in driving growth, enrich lives and promote United
Kingdom abroad. The prime motive of department is
to protect and promote cultural and heritage while
helping business and communities in developing by
using innovative ideas that highlight Britain as a best
destination in the world. It is a department which is
supported by more than 43 agencies and public
entities. It is currently headed by Karen Bradley who
is a member of parliament and secretary of state for
culture, media and sport. Priorities of DCMS are:
Growing the economy
Connecting whole country
Encouraging participation
Sustaining excellence and promoting Britain
Supporting Media
Social responsibility
On the other hand, there is Woodland trust which is
focused on making United Kingdom rich in native
woods and trees, for ensuring better life for people
and wildlife. It is an organisation which has
accomplished huge task of restoration of ancient
woodland that too only by charity funds. It has more
than 500,000 thousand supporters and covers more
than 1000 sites across country. The agency is
dedicated to preserve ancient sites and wildlife as to
maintain the balance in nature. Also it is
commercialising the whole process to generate more
revenue and invest further for growth and
development. The organisation has different type of
management style as it is led by its members and
supporters. It was established in 1972 and today it is
one of the largest conservation charity. The main
powers lie in the hand of trustees who decide on
various issues in accordance to the information
provided.
Today, these organisations are becoming one
of the biggest examples as to generate huge profits
while all sites are preserved and maintained in a
proper way. They are very important for ensuring that
the culture and heritage of place is not lost while we
pursue development. Also the tourism industry relies
on them as these organisations ensure proper
infrastructure and interpretation to the visitors.
