Human resource is the part of an organisation that is charged with screening, findings,
recruiting, selecting, training job applicants and administrating or managing employee-benefit
programs (Mahmood and et. al., 2019). There are different examples of human resource such as
recruiting and staffing employees, employee’s benefits, employee’s compensation, employee and
labour relations, human resources information and payroll etc.

Research Aims and Objectives
Research aim: To identify the types of HR policies and their effectiveness on employee job
satisfaction within an organisation. A study on Boohoo Group Plc.

Rationale of the research
The rationale behind doing this research is to identify the types of HR policies and their
effectiveness on employee job satisfaction within an organisation. This research is important for
various stakeholders that are HR, employees, students and the researcher. For the students, this
research is essential for them by enhancing their understanding regarding the HR policies and
their effectiveness on employee job satisfaction within an organisation (Paais and Pattiruhu,
2020). For the researcher, this research is essential by enhancing their data collection, time
management and many other skills. For HR, current investigation is highly important for

increasing employee retention. For the employees, current study is beneficial by increasing their
satisfaction level towards the job.
Structure of the dissertation
There are so many chapters that plays an important role in completing each activity of the
dissertation in a systematic and successful manner. These chapters are defined below;
Chapter 1: Introduction: This chapter is essential because it includes information regarding
the topic. In this chapter, different information is included such as overview of the topic, research
aim and objectives, research questions and many more.
Chapter 2: Literature review: This chapter is also essential in gathering secondary data
from the available sources. These sources are books, journals, publication research and many
others. All these are main sources and helps an investigator in accomplishing research aim and
objectives in a significant manner (Ali and Anwar, 2021).
Chapter 3: Research methodology: This chapter is important in collecting accurate data
regarding the topic from various methods. These methods are survey strategy, questionnaire,
deductive approach, positivism philosophy and many more. These are main methodologies that
would be beneficial for an investigator in gathering quantitative data within a minimum time
period.
Chapter 4: Findings and analysis: This chapter is effective in evaluating gathered
information from an analytical tool. Within this research, quantitative data will be collected from
the questionnaire and for evaluating this, frequency distribution analysis will be applied by an
investigator.
Chapter 5: Conclusion and recommendations: This is a last part of the dissertation that
includes accurate information regarding all chapters (Garg, Dar and Mishra, 2018). In part of the
recommendation, some appropriate suggestions will be given to the Boohoo Group Plc about
how to increase employee satisfaction at workplace.

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
What are the different HR policies used within an organisation?
According to Stone, Cox and Gavin (2020), HR policies are considered as an essential
model that every organization needs to ensure smooth functioning of business operations. These
HR policies works as a guiding factor that tells the organization and their employees about how
to perform job role and conduct themselves to guarantee a safe and secure business working
environment for all. The main purpose of conducting HR policies in the company helps in
managing the employees for working more productively and efficiently. HR policies plays an
important role in an organization because it helps in promoting consistency and in outlining
necessary details such as organizational obligations, employees expectations, behaviour
standards and disciplinary procedures. When a company follows well developed and
encompassing HR policies, it helps in meeting training needs, ethics, regulation and diversity
requirements. These guidelines are generally set by top management authorities and different
departments existing in an organisation including mainly the HR team which is completely
depended on the different types of policies and processes that needs to be implemented. The HR
policies and strategies are also defined as the set of concepts and norms of behaviour that helps
in regulating the company interaction with its employees. In simple words, the HR policies and
procedures of the organization provide rules and guidelines on how employees execute their job
role and also what they need to do and what not to do in the company for operating the business
operations. It is very important for the company to follow HR practices and policies in order to
promote regularity in employee behaviour and equality in relations among employees. There are
certain human resource policy that company considers and are explained below:
 Employee attendance and punctuality policy – Attendance policy clearly defines about
the expectation from the employees that they should be on time and ready to work
according to their scheduled shifts and work load (Mousa and Othman, 2020). It also
helps in defining about the procedures for informing organisation management of an
unexpected absence or late arrival. This policy is very important for the employees as it
helps in taking leaves if they are not feeling well or going out on urgent basis.
 Safety policy – Organisational health and safety policy helps the company to maintain
and create health and safety regulations for protecting the employees from any hazardous

activity. It is a very good idea to implement health and safety measures an an
organization for managing the health and well-being of employees. At the time of
recruitment the HR manager must provide proper details and information related to the
health and safety procedures followed by the company in order to attract employee.
 Timekeeping and pay policy – A timekeeping policy helps in informing employees
about the method for recording the time they worked and the importance of correct
recording of their working hours (Macke and Genari, 2019). A policy related to pay helps
the employee in knowing the frequency of pay-days, the tools available for receiving
salary, and special procedures and methods for when any day the employee takes holiday
or is absent from the work.
 Meal and break period policy – A policy related to meal and break period helps in
informing employees about the duration about the lunch break as well as any rules and
regulations related to break time. Lactation breaks, meal periods and rest periods must be
provided by every company in accordance with state, local and federal laws.
 Leave and work time off policy – State and local laws have particular requirements
related to leave that the organisation must include in their employee benefits such as
voting leave. The employee must also know about the organization policies regarding the
benefits related to time off work. Leave policies related to employees includes leave of
balance, parental leave, family leave, vacation, statuary holidays and sick leave.
 Anti harassment policy - Anti harassment policy is related to providing benefits
regarding safety and security at the workplace from any discrimination and harassment. It
is important for HR mangers of the company to address and check the state, local and
federal rules and regulations for building a sense of job satisfaction among the employees
of the company.
 Employment categorization policy - There are various types of classifications for
employees of the company that can persuade their eligibility for availing employee
benefits. This classification includes part-time job role for employees who are often
ineligible for health care benefits by their employer. It is the responsibility of the
company to mention these classifications in the employee benefit handbook in order to
maintain a healthy and positive working environment.

 Social media policy - Most of the organizations now also consider social media policy in
their employee handbook in order to protect and safeguard the online reputation of the
company. This policy defines employees about the rules related to any inappropriate post
than strict action will be taken against that activity. So the employees must know have
basic knowledge about the content and post they need to share at the social media
platform in order to prevent any miscommunication and wrong content.
 Telecommunication policy - The advancement and development in the field of
technology has enabled most of the employees to work remotely rather than working
from the main office (Abarantyne, Naidoo and Rugimbana, 2019). The policy related to
work from home should be mentioned by the HR department for smooth functioning of
business operations which generally includes things such as pay and time policies, how to
manage remote employees, right of organization to terminate telecommunication any
time, positions that are eligible for remote working and any limitations regarding remote
roles.
Thus, it is important for all the organizations to focus on implementing HR policies and
procedures because it helps in outlining the management, justice, rationality and management
in a better way. HR policies works as a guide to the company which helps in explaining

productivity. These are generally referred as the structure and the guiding force that guides and

competitive market. Managing the human resources of the company is not easy task as it consists
of several challenges that hamper the growth and productivity of the company. In the past years
the challenges for the human resource department only get increased with the rapid change in the
technology, new software updates and with remote working has made the management of HR
even more difficult and challenging. For effective management of human resource policies and
procedures it is important for them to face the challenge by making sure that time, resources and
money of the company are well spent in a growing project. They also need to make sure that the
employees of the company are getting all the required resources in order to perform their best for
reaching the highest productivity levels in the competitive market. Managing employees with the
changing market trends and introduction of new digital era has made it difficult for Boohoo

analysing the information in appropriate manner. The motive of research methodologies is to
provide accurate and relevant information related to the current investigation. Thus, there are
various kinds of methodologies which is used by the investigator in order to collect and analyse
the data related to the different types of HR policies and their effectiveness on employee job
satisfaction within an organisation.
Research philosophy:
It is one of the tool of research methodology which is used by the researcher for gathering
and evaluating the data related to the selected topic. Research methodology is classified into two
forms such as positivism and interpretivism. These philosophies is important for the investigator
in order to collect and analyse the information, but within this research the chosen philosophy is
positivism. Through choosing positivism philosophy, researcher can collect the data in terms of
numerical form. The purpose behind selecting positivism philosophy is that it gathers the
information in less time within efficient budget (Boutet, Hernández and Jacobo, 2020). It also
helps in providing valid outcomes due to which aims and objective of research can be attained in
better manner. Thus, these are few reasons due to which investigator has selected positivism
philosophy. Researcher has not selected interpretivism philosophy as it doesn't provide valuable
outcomes and also it takes maximum cost and time to accomplish the research.
Research approach:
Research approach generally helps researcher to analyse the abilities of the selected
philosophy. This tool helps investigator to evaluate and analyse the information in effective and
efficient manner. There are mainly two different types of research approach which is used by the
researcher such as inductive and deductive. In the current investigation, the chosen research

research strategy is survey. The motive behind choosing research strategy is that it helps in
providing information related to numerical terms and also researcher can collect the data from
large number of population (Moraga and et. al., 2020). By choosing this strategy, investigator
requires less amount of capital for completing the research in efficient and effective way. Thus,
these are the few reasons due to which investigator has selected survey strategy within current
investigation. The other strategies are not selected as it is not useful and beneficial for this
particular investigation and also it doesn't provide quantitative information.
Research choice:
Research choice is also a methodology of research which provides a way through which
research can be conducted in appropriate manner. There are mainly two types of research choices
such as qualitative and quantitative. Both the research choice is important for the researcher but
within this investigation, the selected research choice is quantitative. It is selected by the
researcher as it focuses on collecting quantitative piece of data by not taking more time and cost.
Investigator can gather the information within less time due to which it becomes easy to
complete the research within set deadline (Yang and et. al., 2019). The reason behind not
choosing qualitative research choice is that it is not beneficial for this investigation and also it
takes maximum time for completing this research.
Data collection:
Data collection method is also a methodology of the research which helps in analysing
and acquiring the information related to the current investigation. There are mainly two types of
data collection method such as primary and secondary data collection method. In this research,
researcher has chosen both the data collection method in order to evaluate and analyse the
information related to the types of HR policies and their effectiveness on employee job
satisfaction within an organisation (Liu and et. al., 2021). The primary data collection method is
chosen by the researcher as it helps in collecting raw information related to the current

investigation. For collecting primary information, researcher has developed questionnaire.
Investigator has also chosen secondary data collection method as it helps in providing existing
information related to the topic which are collected by other people (Shallcross and et. al.,
2021). For gathering secondary data, there are different sources such as publication research,
articles, books and various others. Thus, primary and secondary data collection method are
useful for accumulating information and achieving aims and objective of research.
Time horizon:
Time Horizon is a instrument of research which helps in completing the investigation in
certain time period. It is mainly divided into two parts such as cross sectional and longitudinal
time horizon. Within this research, the chosen time horizon is cross sectional as it helps in
attaining the aims and objective of investigation in significant manner and with less time (Tan,
Li and Ge, 2019). The reason behind choosing cross sectional time horizon is that it provides
valid outcomes and also takes minimum time for accomplishing the research. Investigator has
not selected longitudinal time horizon as it takes more time for completing the research and also
it is not useful for this particular research.
Sampling:
Sampling is a method of research which is used by the researcher for gathering
information from large number of population. It is divided into two types such as probability and
non-probability (Andrade and Andersen, 2020). Within this research, researcher has selected
probability sampling as it selects respondents on the basis of random sampling method and also
provide valid result. By considering the random sampling, 30 employees of Boohoo are selected
randomly to answer close ended questions.

As per the above information, it is being identified that HR policies plays a significant
role in managing the workforce and business activities of an organisation. It is necessary for
higher level authority to develop better HR policies that encourages employees to work and also
handles the issues within business in effective and efficient manner. HR policies is a plan which
defines how to work within an organisation in order to attain the business goals and objective.
There are different types of HR polices which are implemented within company in order to run
business activities in smooth manner (Piszczek and Berg, 2020). The few HR polices are safety
policy, employee attendance, time keeping, meal and break policy, anti harassment policy and
many other policies. Through adopting these policies within workplace, company can conduct its
business function and activities in appropriate manner. Thus, these policies helps in providing
the way through which employees can work within an organisation.
It is being identified from the above literature review that HR polices plays a vital role in
improving the productivity of business as it helps in managing the business activities in effective
and efficient manner and also satisfy the employees within workplace. HR policies helps in
managing the overall activities of business by dealing with the issues and encouraging

employees within an organisation so that they can give better outcomes in achieving the target. It
also helps in improving the satisfaction level of staff in order to improve the performance and
productivity of business. HR policies must follow strong working culture so that employees can
can work with dedicated and perform their job role with better manner. There are various
challenges which are faced by HR while implementing HR policies. These issues creates a great
impact on the growth and performance of company (Sarvaiya, Arrowsmith and Eweje, 2021).
The challenges which are faced by organisation while implementing effective HR policies are
balancing the workforce, aligning role of HR with strategies of business, training and
development, health and safety of employees and many others. It becomes difficult for HR to
align the HR policies with business strategies so that work can be accomplished in effective and
efficient manner. While implementing HR policies, company have to focus on understanding the
needs and requirements of employees so that they can align the policies with strategies. HR also
focus on organising training and development program for their staff in order to improve their
efficiency and performance.

Conclusion
It is being concluded from the above information that human resource management is an
important function of management that helps in measuring and evaluating the overall lifestyle of
the staff within workplace. In order to run the business in efficient and effective manner human
resource management frame certain policies which are followed by the employees and
management within an organisation. HR Policies are important for company as it helps in
performing business activities in smooth and efficient way. Through these HR policies,
employees can avail detail information regarding the job role and also helps in creating positive
working environment within workplace. The reason behind implementing HR Policies is that it
helps in managing the staff so that they can give productive and better output in accomplishing
the business goals. It also helps in outlining the important details related to the employees and
management such as behaviour standards and disciplinary procedures, employees expectations
and organizational obligations. By following the HR policies, company can fulfil their ethics,
diversity requirements, training needs and regulations. The higher level authority is responsible
for setting HR polices by analysing the culture, workplace, work load, employees and many
other factors. Thus, there are different types of HR policies which are adopted by companies
such as employee attendance and punctuality policy, safety policy, timekeeping and pay policy,
meal and break period policy, leave and work time off policy, anti harassment policy and
employment categorization policy. These are the few policies which are framed under HR
policies and also it helps in maintaining the functioning of business in smooth and effective way.
HR policies plays various role within an organisation and also helps in increasing the
productivity of business. It helps in managing the business activities by handling with the issues
that occurs within workplace. HR policies also helps in motivating and encouraging manager and
leader to treat their staff fairly so that they can remain with company for long run. Policies
which are related to hiring, termination, performance evaluation and disciplinary action helps to
manage the employees in significant manner.
By adopting HR policies, manager can make their employees feel satisfied and also
provide them safe and secure place for working. It generally depicts about the work structure and
determine the job role of individuals within an organisation that the productivity and

performance of company increases. If company have strong HR policies they can make better
decision due to which the success rate of organisation increases. It also encourage managers to
provide training and development opportunities to employees so that they can perform better
within an organisation. HR polices also helps company to set proper standards related to working
hours, attendance and safety of employees and workplace conduct for enhancing the satisfaction
and motivation of staff.
There are various issues which are faced by the organisation while implementing HR
policies such as health and safety of employees, compliance with important laws and regulations,
balancing the workforce, aligning role of HR with strategies of business and training and
development. These are the challenges which brings hurdle while implementing effective and
efficient HR policies within an organisation. HR generally faces issues related to training and
development. They have to focus on providing better training and development facility to their
employees in order to enhance their performance, capabilities, skills and knowledge. Through
HR policy they can determine what is best and what is not best for staff. For improving the
productivity and efficiency of employees, it is necessary to offer training and development
opportunity to staff so that they can perform productive and give their better output in making
business successful. In order to remain competitive in market, it is necessary to adopt different
technology that helps in increasing the profitability and growth of business. When organisation
adopts new technology, it is essential to provide training and development benefits to staff. HR
also faces difficulty in aligning HR role with business strategies. Manager generally focuses on
aligning HR strategy with business strategy so that goals and objective can be achieved in better
manner. The other problem which is faced by the manager is health and safety of employees. It is
the responsibility of HR manager to maintain and take care of health and safety of staff so that
they can work with comfortably and feel motivated within an organisation.
Recommendation
 It is being recommended from the above information that organisation must focus on
overcoming the challenges which they face while implementing HR policies as it can
influence the performance and profitability of business. The HR of Boohoo must focus on
creating transparent working culture so that every employee can know what is going
within business. Transparent work culture helps in increasing the trust among employees
and also builds the sense of loyalty. For building transparent working culture, it is

necessary for manager to not to hide any information with staff. Thus, it also helps in
increasing thee engagement level of employees within Boohoo due to which they can
contribute their best performance in accomplishing the business goals.
 HR must also encourage face to face communication between the manager and
employees so that they can reduce confusion and understand the HR policies in effective
and efficient manner. When there is miscommunication between the staff, it affects their
relationship and performance. By having verbal communication, employees can build and
strengthen their relationship within company by maintaining integrity, friendliness and
authenticity. The face to face communication helps in making attentive body language
and also builds credibility between employees and colleagues.
 It is the responsibility of HR to encourage and motivate their staff so that they feel happy
while working and give their better performance in improving the productivity and
performance of business. Boohoo must focus on organising organisational trips and fun
activities in order to make their staff feel relax and comfortable while working. HR can
also organise informal launch so that they can break the ice between the employer and
employees and develop better communication within company.
