INTRODUCTION Human capital is the most crucial part of any business organization and creating a planfor managing the human resource is termed as human resource management. Human resourcemanagement seeks prior attention towards managing this resource in order to get the best out ofthem. Today’s era is very complex and competitive (Bennett and Ho, 2014). To achieve asignificant growth, intervention of people is quite essential. Thus, it can be articulated that HRMplays a significant role in every organization. The present research study also focuses on HRM inBritish Airways. British Airways was established in the year 1974 and is one of the successfulairline industries all across the globe. Over the decades, the firm has faced many difficulties andsub-standard business situations. After 90’s British Airways has realized that they need to changetheir strategies and they have adopted customer service resource planning to achieve the goals.The HRM team of the company was dedicatedly involved by heart and soul in providing trainingto the staff members and various other processes of recruitment and selection (British Airways,2007). This has leaded the firm to the path of success and growth. In this regards, the presentreport will analyze the strength and weakness of the different methods of recruitment andselection. It will also evaluate the importance of employee relation and various legislationsrelated to the workers. TASK – 11.Purpose and functions of HRM Human resource management seeks prior attention towards managing the human resourcein order to get the best out of them. It is the process of developing, establishing plans and thenmanaging the workers so as to reap out better outcome for the organization (Farquharson andBaum, 2002). The priority of HRM will also be effective utilization of the resources availablewithin the company. Seeking help through HRM, the firm also tries to reduce the gap betweenthe employer and the employee and build a healthy relation among themselves. Planning in regards with the human resource (Peng, 2009)British Airways is related to the hospitality and travel and tourism industry and thus,effective HRM is quite essential. It is vital for the firm to improve the efficiency, skills andcompetencies of the staff members because it is through them the company will achieve acompetitive edge over the other rivalry companies in the airline market. Some of the mainfunctions of British Airways are mentioned below: Recruitment and selection – Recruitment and selection forms an integral part in theAirline industry. If the best and efficient workforce is being selected than this cansignificantly provide an aid to the firm (Price, 2007). The recruitment and selectionprocess in British Airways is conducted under the three level process i.e. the first level isof application form and screening, the second stage incudes interview, personaldiscussion and finally, the last stage is considered as an testing stage which encompassdifferent types of aptitude tests. Here, the major role is being played by the humanresource department. It becomes imperative for the HR manager to act responsibly whilerecruiting and screening the applicants. Throughout the process, the role of HR isindispensible.Compensation and benefits – Every employee works in the company and performs withtheir best potential in lieu of certain benefits. These benefits are nothing but the monetaryfactor that acts as a motivational factor for the workers. Competitive compensation isbeing offered to the employees of the British Airways so as to make them satisfy andleads the company towards the ultimate goal (Meyer and Smith, 2000). Other than this,various benefits are also offered by British Airways from time to time to retain and gainthe loyalty from the employees. These programs include, package holidays, free flyingtickets, recognition, certified courses and gifts etc.Human resource planning – For the purpose of managing the employees within theorganization, planning in relation with the human resource is quite essential.
