INTRODUCTIONIncreasing size as well as complexities in business has made human resource beingemerged out as the most crucial factor in each and every business. The need of human resourceas a customer, owner and employee is increasing at a fast pace. Considering the case study of“Say it with chocolate” has been taken into account. It is a rapidly expanding firm being based inNorth Yorkshire and it offering tailor made chocolate based greetings cars all across the UK. Thebusiness is carried out by various teams such as production, finance and marketing and staffmembers who are engaged in designing and creating specialists gifts orders. The owner of “Sayit with chocolate” is also a master chocolatier, but had very little experience in relation withstaffing and managing an increasing workforce (Boxall and Purcell, 2011). With the growth ofthe firm, the employee turnover rate has been increasing rapidly. In addition to this, the feedbackof the clients also reveals that the quality of the products is decreased relatively from theprevious one. Pertaining to this, there is high number of vacancies in the production andadministration department. In order to select the best candidate, the manager has created ownassessment test related to English and Mathematics. Furthermore, the applicants for the job havealso complained related to the fairness of the test. Therefore, being a human resource officer,focus will be made on recruiting and retaining the best workers so as ensure further growth of theorganization.Consequently, the present research report is divided into two parts. The first part willthrow light on the purpose of and scope of human resource management, recruitment andselection in “Say it with chocolate”. Under this, various functions of human resource manager,his roles, responsibilities and approaches to recruitment and selection will be discussed. HumanResource Management is concerned with the application as well as comprehension of humanresource and their management within an organization. They also help in developing, trainingand managing the human capital in order to achieve the organizational goals. On the other hand,the second part of the report will focus towards performance of the employees, reward,motivation factors, developmental opportunities and other factors that influence the humanresource decision making in Microsoft. The later part of the report will also evaluate the keyapproaches of employee engagement and employment legislation relation to UK that impacts thedecision making of HRM. 1

PART – 1TASK – 1A.Purpose of HR function and its significance, current problems and future plans for growthPurpose of HRM Human Resource Management is concerned with the application as well ascomprehension of human resource and their management within an organization. They also helpin developing, training and managing the human capital in order to achieve the organizationalgoals (Bratton and Gold, 2012). HR department is also liable for efficient utilization of theresources so as to minimize the costs and take the firm to the path of success. Thus, it can be saidthat the main purpose of HRM of “Say it with chocolate” is to improve the abilities and skills ofthe employees, achieving the organizational objectives, maintaining good relationship anddeveloping each and every individual by creating strategies, policies and plans.HR functions Focusing towards “Say it with chocolate”, the HR department of the firm adopts thegeneral functions of Human resource so as to make the organization run successfully. In additionto this, the firm also takes into account particular HR methods as well as varied approaches torecruit eligible and qualified applicant for the required job (Robert, 2000). Pertaining to this, themain function of HR of “Say it with chocolate” is being defined underneath:Recruitment and selection – This is considered as the main function of HR. With thisfunction in place, potential candidates are being selected for the vacant job. Variousapproaches are used for recruiting and selecting employees such as aptitude tests,interviews and group discussions. Training and development – In this function, the department makes arrangement foreffective training and development events as per the need of the employees and areas thatare required to be improved. 2

Human resource planning – This is also a vital function, as it helps in forecasting thefuture needs of the human resource and makes arrangement in advance so that operationsand working of the firm is not affected (David, 2002). Compensation and benefits – Each and every employee work in return of gettingsomething. Through this, the HR department of “Say it with chocolate” makes sure thatproper and effective compensation is being offered to the employees so that they feelmotivated. Performance management – With this function, the performance of employees is beingappraised and evaluated so that better performance can be recognized and flaws if anycan be identified at the early stages and corrective actions can be taken timely.
