INTRODUCTION
In today’s dynamic and complex business environment, human resources are emerging
out as a significant factor in almost every business irrespective of the sector or industry they
belong. Now, there is a need of human resource in any form whether it can be owner, manager,
customers and employees. Managing these resources is again a crucial task to perform and
understanding and managing this important capital is typically regarded as human resource
management (Beardwell and Claydon, 2016). HRM provides support in management,
development and training of human capital so as to accomplish the overall objectives of the firm.
Concerning this intellect, case study related to “Say it with chocolate” is being considered in the
current research report. The firm is on the way of expansion and is basically from North
Yorkshire. They are engage in providing tailor made chocolate based greetings cards all over the
United Kingdom. Numerous teams are being involved for carrying out the operations of the firm
such as production, marketing, finance, employees etc. In addition to this, the proprietor of “Say
it with chocolate” is also having full experience related to chocolate; however lacks knowledge
in terms of managing and staffing the increasing labor force in the firm. Since, the company is
growing at a tremendous speed; there is also an increase in the employee turnover. Moreover,
some of the products quality is also diminishing as per the feedback of some of the customers.
“Say it with chocolate” is based in an area where there is high number of unemployment and
consequently, the vacant positions in the production and administration department is quite high.
For the purpose of selecting the best employee for the vacant position, the manager has
developed an own assessment test of English and mathematics. However, there were many
candidates who doubt about the fairness of this test. Related to the case study, the main aim as a
human resource officer of “Say it with chocolate” will be to recruit the best employee for the
company.
The report study is segregated into two parts. The former part will focus on the scope as
well as purpose of HRM, Recruitment and Selection of the firm. It will also analyze numerous
roles, functions and responsibilities of HR manager and approaches to staffing. Whereas, the
later part of the report will throw light on the performance level of the workers, rewards and
motivational factors that impacts the HR decision making in the company “Microsoft”. It will
also assess various approaches related to employee engagement and employee legislations that
significantly influence the functioning and decision making of a firm.

Main Purpose of HR function
Human resources are emerging out as a significant factor in almost every business
irrespective of the sector or industry they belong. They are important asset that keeps the
business going and helps in effective functioning and operations of the business. Talking in
relation with the human resource management function, it is concerned with the management,
application and understanding of human resource within a firm. It also helps in developing,
managing, providing training to the employees so as to accomplish the overall objective of the
firm (Bratton and Gold, 2016). The main aim is to make efficient use of the present resources in
order to decrease the costs and increase the profits. Similarly, in “say it with chocolate” as well,
the main purpose of HR function is to make improvements in the competencies and skills of the
workers for achieving the goals. Further, it also aspires to maintain a healthy relationship and
developing every worker through effective strategies implementation.
HR functions
The human resource department of “Say it with chocolate” takes into consideration
general functions of HR so that company can run their operations smoothly and achieves the path
of success. Additionally, the manager of the company adopts various approaches from time to
time so as to have competent and qualified employees on board. Therefore, the main function of
the HR of the organization is as follows:
Employee Staffing – It is one of the crucial and major function of the HR. Through this,
competent and eligible personnel are placed on board for filling the vacant job position.
For this purpose, number of methods related to recruitment and selection are being
adopted by the manager such as aptitude tests, referral checking, interviews, group
discussion etc.
Learning and development – Through this function, the manager of the Human resource
makes necessary arrangements for offering training and development to their employees.
The main motive is to enhance the skills as well as abilities of the workers and make
