This report will take Waitrose company for this case study. It is a British
retailer multinational company. This report will analyses purpose and the
functions of HRM in the company and it will also explain the approaches of
recruitment and selection method.
This report will cover how HRM works and why it is important for the
company to achieve their objectives and goals.

Resource Management
HRM plays important role in the company to gain competitive advantages
(Aklamanu, Degbey and Tarba., 2016).
This department provide skilful employees to the Waitrose company, so they
can gain competitive advantages in the retail market.
There are two approaches of the HRM which define their functions are soft and
hart approaches
Hard HRM
In the hart approaches HR manager of the Waitrose company treat
employees simply as their resources like they are machine.
This approach has strong like with the corporate business planning , in this they
analyse what resource their company need and how they will get those
resources and how much it will be cost.
HR also focus on the workforce according to the companies need.
They hire new employees if they are needed, and they also fire employees
according to the companies labour turnover.

Soft approaches
In the soft approaches HR treat their employees as a most important resource of
the company to take competitive advantages (Bratton and Gold., 2017).
They also motivate employees through the reward system, so they give their
best to achieve rewards and stay motivated.
HRM focus on the long term goals of the company and plan according to it.
Purpose of HRM
Purpose of the HRM to recruit skillful employees and right people for the
available job in the Waitrose company.
They focus to recruit employees on the right time, place and people to make
their workforce strong.
