INTRODUCTIONHuman resource management is the strategic approach to the effective management of people ina company or organization such that they help their business gain a competitive advantage. It isdesigned to maximize employee performance in service of an employer's strategic objectives.Report will highlight the purpose and functions of HRM applicable to workforce planning. It willalso highlight strength and weakness of different selection approaches.TASK 1a) The purpose and functions of HRM applicable to workforce planning and resourcing anorganization.Purpose of HRM- the purpose of HRM is to maximize the productivity of an organization byoptimizing the effectiveness of its employees. It has the main purpose of hiring and recruitingeffective talent so that firm can increase their productivity and profitability.There are heterogeneous functions of Human Resource officer which is to perform, scrutinise thecritical issues faced by the Chocolate Presence organization and rectifying them in timelymanner without any delay.Chocolate Presence is an organization known for its expertise in tailor made chocolate-basedgreeting cards. As there is high unemployment in the area in which the company is located. It is agreat opportunity for this company to recruit the appropriate candidate and fulfil the deviation ofthe “QUALITY ISSUE” which the Chocolate Presence organization is facing and also the poorrecruitment process in which the organization is failing to conduct professional interview and thetest and also giving priority to the references.As a Human Resource officer, Sit is essential to MANAGE the Chocolate Presenceorganization's employees and provide support to HRM by taking appropriate action towards thedeteriorating factors of Chocolate Presence organization.In Chocolate Presence organization there is a need to improve the recruitment process byrecruiting the talent by conducting professional interview which is not just an informal round of15 minutes rather a serious discussion must be there which scrutinise the people who can reallydevote to the Chocolate Presence at there best. As a Human Resource Offers the purpose is tofollow the process of the recruitment to get the best possible result. Such process is mentionedbelow:RECRUITING PROCESS:
Planning:Planning is much needed in the organization because it will decide the comprehensive jobspecification. The relevant responsibilities, education, skill required, experience required and allthe terms and condition of the job. Here the appropriate candidate should be selected based onthe above mentioned requirement and the role and responsibilities of him or her should be clear.Medium:There are many media via which the Chocolate Presence can do recruitment like adverting onnewspaper, Facebook, Instagram and several other platforms. Here there is a plenty ofunemployment which can be fulfil via these medium. People will become more aware of it andthere will be more applications as well as more competition, and it will ultimately help theChocolate Presence in selecting the best out of the best.Short listing:Short listing the candidate or screening of the candidate after getting applications involves greattime and effort, here the Chocolate Presence is expanding at a rapid pace and is in need of thenew and innovative talent which give a further glow to the organization, and helps in expansionof the organization as per the trend. For example, there are so many applications for theuniversity but it selects the best candidate so the name of university or reputation of theuniversity cannot be questioned. In Chocolate Presence organization they are also facing thequality issues, so short listing the appropriate candidate for that role is very important.Reward management:Salary or wages is also an important factor which a HR officer of Chocolate Presence shouldconsider at the time of selection so that it avoids any chaos between the employee shortlisted andthe employer. The employer should decide to which department it is required to pay more or lessand also pay according to work experience. Here in the Chocolate Presence OrganizationChocolate production team should be paid more to hire the most excellent talent. Rewardmanagement can be in cash or in kind. Rewarding the employee for the good work done by themin form of gifts annually, giving holidays or giving discounts on tickets to travel, they are somethe example of rewards in kind.Training and development:
As an HR Officer the purpose is to develop the employee and keeps them motivated towards thework by conducting several activities like yoga and aerobics, meditation, playing sports etc. itwill keep them alive and will keep them motivated and enthusiastic towards the work. Also bygiving them training and making them learn the required skill from the experts in the ChocolatePresence organization or may be at the desired area.Performance management:Performance management consists of over all performance of the employee, the purpose of beingan HR officer is also to manage the performance by evaluating the performance done by theemployee in timely manner and conducting meeting regarding strength and weaknesses of theemployees. If the employee is working not at the desired pace then telling them about the poorperformance and the ways to improve it, it is to be done not in the public and appreciating theemployee for the good work done openly to boosts the morale of the employee and this will alsoencourage the employee to work more effectively.b. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches of recruitment and selection.Recruitment and selectionCompany is making use of homemade assessment test (promotions) which is a timesaving process as chocolate company already know the work ethic and approach of theemployees already working with them. It is money saving process because less paper work andthey do not have to issue new keys passwords etc. It can allow introduction of new innovativeideas to the chocolate company. The new hired candidates may have less political issues in thefirm chocolate presence organisation.Company is also making use of informal chat as the method of recruitment and selection.It provides higher number of choices for selection to the chocolate company (Bailey and et.al.,2018). In this hiring new candidate can bring new excited innovative ideas to the company.Informal chat can measure confidence level, communications skills, and presentation of theapplicant. Informal chats determine the detailed information in depth as well as personalthoughts and opinions of the applicant. It can create discord in between the other employees andcan be harmful for the environment of the company. It provides limited choices for selection tothe chocolate company. It is a time consuming as well as money consuming process – hiring newcandidates. It can be time and money consuming process as they need to hire an talented HR who
are involve in informal chat.
