Introduction
An organisation is a group of people that operate together in the highly organised way for a
shared goal. (Cambridge, 2018)The organisation management gives an insight of direction to
their employees. The individuals are well aware of their roles and responsibilities and know
what they are need to do in the organisation. Effective management goal is profitable for the
organisation. An organisation management leads for the efficient approach of an organisation
as well as its employees.
Snap Inc. they are the founders of the famous "Snapchat" mobile app. They are one of the
quickest growing social media and camera companies in the world.
This assignment will be coving the history of Snap Inc. and its organisation structure as well
as the modern management approaches and organisation culture also strategic management
objectives.
Snap Inc.
Snap Inc. journey established around 2011 with the name Picaboo using IOS platform then
was renamed to Snapchat later on that year. By 2012 Snapchat chose to add their application
to android platform as well. In the mid-2016 Snapchat had around 150 million active users
daily. Snapchat is now one of the most used applications in the world and now Snap Inc. is
based in Venice, California. (Matthies & Parvin, 2016)
Snap Inc. operates in a camera industry and they believe in reinventing the camera to be
excellent opportunity to advance the way people communicate with each other. Snapchat is
one of the product Snap Inc. created it’s a camera application that is used to help people to
communicate visually with friends and family through short- videos and images.
Now Snapchat is already one of the most used cameras in the world’s. Snap Inc. revenue
2017 is 824.9 million USD. (Snap INC.A, 2017). According to, Mergent Online there is
1,859 employees that is recorded from 2016 of Snap Inc. (Matthies & Parvin, 2016)
Organisational Structure
An organisation structure is a plan that describes who reports to whom and who is
responsible what. (Ahmady, et al., 2016)
There is three type of organisation structure, functional structure, divisional structure, and
matrix structure. The functional structure is formed in a way that each section of the
organisation is arranged according to their purpose. This functional structure works extremely
well for smaller business. A divisional structure is commonly used by big companies that
operate in a broad field. The divisional structure can be costly the reason for this is because of
its size and scope. Smaller companies can also use the divisional structure at a smaller scale
business. The Matrix structure is a mix of divisional and functional structures, It’s usually
used by large multi-national companies, the matrix structure allows a functional and
divisional structure to be used within the company in different departments. (Sullivan, 2018).
Snap Inc. currently operates in a Functional structure this is because Snap Inc. have highly
talented individuals which include, software engineer, product managers, and designers they
all work in a group depending on their specialties. The functional structure works well with
small sized businesses and Snap Inc. currently have around 3,069 employees. But this could
change in the future because Snap Inc. is planning to expand their businesses. (Matthies &
Parvin, 2016).

Advantages
 Employees are managed by someone with experience and the same specialty and
review employees work.
 The employees have an opportunity to move up their profession within their division
this will be a reason for employees to stay in the company long-term.
 The company get an advantage over employee’s expertise. (Harrin, 2017)
Disadvantage
 There will be a lack of knowledge across the departments.
 The specialisation will lead to narrow viewpoint of the overall perspective.
 Employees might not be able to have the opportunity to network widely throughout
the company. (Harrin, 2017)

Modern Management
Modern Management is a theory that has started around 1950s.Modern Management theory is
about the development of each role of workers and companies. (Shukla, 2012)
The modern management approaches that best suites Snap Inc. is Situational Approach
because they specialise in the camera industry and their employees are highly talented and
skilled individuals, including software engineers, designers, and product managers and they
all have a different role they have to play in different tasks.
 The advantages of situational leadership approach has been in the market for a long
time well known and used a allot to train managers. It’s easy to use and understand.
(Lydamore, 2017)
 The disadvantages of situational leadership approach have only a few related research
that conducted to justify assumptions and proposition which raised a question about
the theory and it’s hard to how commitment as its imagined. (Lydamore, 2017)
Organisation culture
Organizational culture is usually understood as all of a company’s views, values and
attitudes, and how these affect the behaviour of its employees. (Anon., 2017)
1. Power structure a company may be down to one or two executives these people have
the greatest amount of influence on the decision, operation, and strategic direction.
Snap Inc. is a power structure because its run by 2 founder CEO and CFO alongside
with Five other executive offer’s. (Johnson & Scholes, 2017)
2. Symbols is a visual representation of a company. Snap Inc. logo is well recognised
around the world its ghosts shaped logo on a yellow background its mostly recognised
by 13 years olds to 34 years olds because Snapchat is mostly used in that age group.
(Johnson & Scholes, 2017)
3. Stores and myth are a past and present events that happen and people talk about. Snap
Inc. story is two Stanford University students got an idea of new ways to
communicate with family and friends now both CEO and CFO running a company at
a young age. (Johnson & Scholes, 2017)

According to Charles Handy’s model, there are four different types of culture that
organisations follow it includes:
 Power- Some companies are then the power remains in some people within the
organisation, and there are the only ones entitled to make decisions.
 Task Culture- This is when an organisation forms teams to achieve their objective or
to solve the crucial problem.
 Person Culture- There are certain companies where the employees feel that they are
more important than their company.
 Role culture- For the role culture the culture is when employees are assigned roles
and responsibilities depending on their educational qualification, specialisation, and
their interest to achieve their best performance.

Snap Inc. operates in a role culture this is because their employees are highly talented
individuals which include software engineer, product managers, and designers. Snap Inc.
employees have an appointed role and responsibilities depending on their specialisation.

Strategic Management
The strategic management is a position of managerial judgment and action that prepares that
company in the long-run. This will most likely will be a CEO's role because their
responsibility it has to deliver a vision and to guide strategic planning. For a this to be
successful, it will involve employees at all levels in the strategic plan to help build a shared
vision. (Gagnonstrategix, 2016)
According to Johnson and Scholes cultural web framework, one of the main struggles in an
organisation is the managing strategic change is the effect of changes in an organisational
culture the Cultural Web is designed to support managers discuss the challenge of strategy
forced cultural change. (Johnson, 2016)

company by creating new innovative
products.

A Threat Snap Inc. within the tech
industry there is a rapid change, growth
and with high levels of competition. When
other competitors can use the mobile
applications and Snap Inc. copy these
features, it poses a threats Snap Inc.
uniqueness.
Conclusion
Snap Inc. is a very successful company that works within the camera industry they have
highly talented individuals. Snap Inc. is known for their famous creation names "Snapchat"
mobile app. The importance of an organisational structure within a company so that
employees will be located in a department in an organised way. Modern management is also
important because it will be developing the employee's knowledge and skills. Another crucial
element of a business is the organisational culture with this everyone in the company will be
aiming towards the goal and be respecting the values that represent the business. The most
significant element of a business is the strategic management because the CEO will be set-up
an objective that needs to be achieved within a specific time and employees will be working
to achieve.
