ASSESSMENT TASK 1: KNOWLEDGE QUESTIONS
Questions:
1.1. Research anti-discrimination legislations and standards and answer the
following laws. (Guide: 80+ words)
a. What are the workplace obligations under anti-discrimination
legislation and standards?
b. Prepare a list of five (5) federal anti-discrimination laws
a) To treat every person equally and avoid harassment as it is unlawful to treat
person on basis of particular attributes such as person disability, age, gender
etc. Also avoid workplace bullying that causes risk to health and safety.
b) Age discrimination act 2004
Racial bias act 1975
Sex discrimination act 1984.
Australian human rights commission act 1986.
Disability discrimination act 2004
1.2. Australian workplaces should have well-established diversity practices.
Research diversity in the workplace and answer the following 2 points.

a. Explain the purpose of diversity and inclusion policy
b. How can the following organisational policies and procedures promote
inclusive work practices?
Recruitment and selection policies and procedures
Remuneration policies and procedures
a) Diversity is made up of members that make up entity whereas inclusion is about
how contributions and presence of different group of people are valued and
integrated in a business environment. Purpose of both helps in gaining higher
revenue growth, generates more innovative ideas, allows recruiting diverse
people and ensures higher employee retention etc.
Assessment task instructions:
This is the first assessment task which consists of five 5 written knowledge questions and a scenario. You
must complete all the knowledge questions at the required level to get a “Satisfactory” outcome.
Purpose of the assessment task:
The purpose of the assessment task is to assess your knowledge in the following:
Workplace anti-discrimination legislation and standards
Organisational policies and procedures relating to inclusive work practices
Major groups in the workplace and community, as defined by cultural, religious, traditions and
practices
Reasonable adjustments that facilitate participation by people with a disability
The value of workplace diversity and inclusion in terms of the ability of an organisation to
attract talent, employee satisfaction, creativity and innovation in the workplace and an
organisation’s financial performance.
Assessment conditions and resources:
Assessment will be conducted in a safe simulated environment where you will have access to:
technology, resources, including access to Legislation, standards and codes of practice for working with
diversity and Organisational diversity policies and procedures

Recruitment and selection policies must ensure that all diverse
employees from different regions are given a chance to work into the
organization and show talents.
Attractive salaries and incentive are provided to each employee
according to their talents and there should not be discrimination on basis
of caste, color, race etc.
1.3. What are major groups in the workplace and community, as defined
by cultural, religious and other traditions and practices? (Guide:
100+ words)
1.4. Research the meaning “Reasonable Adjustment” and explain what are

Major groups in workplace and community includes cultural diversity,
racial diversity, disability, religious diversity, gender diversity etc.
Cultural diversity is related to each person ethnicity and consists of set of
norms that are adopted from the society in which they are raised. Also,
person diversity is based on physical traits examples African, Latino,
Asian etc.
Such groups when work in systematic manner achieve goals in specific
time period. Moreover, workplace diversity is classified into internal,
external organizational and world view. Internal is related to what
person is born, external is influenced by characteristics of person,
organizational is based on job function and department and world view is
based on cultural events, knowledge of history, one outlook on life etc.
Reasonable adjustment is change to remove the effect of employee disability
so that they are able to do the job. Some reasonable adjustments for disable
people include:
Providing flexible working hours such as working either part-time or
starting at different time so that they are able to perform better.
Changing the working place of disable person to different office or
allowing them to do work from home.
Providing extra supervision, mentoring and training to these people.
Structuring test and interviews so that person with disability can prove
their ability to do the specific job.
Buying equipment for disable people for example: installing voice
activated software for those people who are blind.

a) Organization would be able to get qualified professionals from different parts
of world due to diverse workplace that helps in greater reach.
b) Increased diversity at workplace creates negative relationship with job
satisfaction as it is only higher when degree of diversity is lower. Diversity can
be sourced of tension and generates problems of communication as well as
value sharing. On the other hand, diversity creates job satisfaction in positive
manner at team level.
c) Creativity is enhanced through new ideas from different cultures and regions.
Moreover, innovative products can be developed by analyzing different
markets.
d) Financial performance is increased as better decision are made as different
culture and background people come with great solutions that lead to better
risk assessments.
