INTRODUCTION
Skills audit is process that helps an individual’s to analysis its key strength, weakness,
threat and opportunities so that it can take decision to improve the same in order to get higher
growth and success in future career. This report has included preparation for placement and
reflective diary of industrial placement that helps me in planning my future career to get more
growth opportunities.
PART A: PREPARATION FOR PLACEMENT
Industrial placement is extension of period of work experience by student in order to
supplement their degree with professional development. While working in my past job as
industrial placement there are numerous things that I have learn such as communication, team
working, and decision making and emotional intelligence skills (Poon, Lau and Tang, 2021). In
order to conduct skills audit Swot analysis is used such as:
STRENGTH
 Likewise as strategic manager I have
learn the way I need to work in team or
motivate subordinate to complete their
respective plan in the best possible
manner.

strategies that are essential for growth

 I also find from my previous work
experience that I have lack of emotional
intelligence skills as I am unable to
control over my emotions.

Assessment of training needs: I need to get a employment in reputable organisation as strategic
manager role in construction industry of UK.
Training objective: To get industrial placement in reputable organisation to achieve higher
growth and success in future professional career.
Action: In order to achieve the set goals I have plan to learn different skills such as emotional
intelligence to have control over my emotions. Secondly I will take action to learn the way
information is communicated from one individual to another (Fowlie and Forder, 2019).
Evaluation and revise the trainings: It is stage at which I review my actual skills, knowledge
and capabilities of training required in order to get placement in choice of organisation.
I am searching for employment as strategic manager in any reputable
organisation of construction industry to make optimum use of my existing

PART B: REFLECTIVE DIARY OF INDUSTRIAL PLACEMENT
Reflection is important aspects that helps an individual in identified and understanding
the things that has went in particular experience and need to be improved further for better
outcome. This segment is related to reflective diary of industrial placement; the things that I have
learned, type of task or activities are given when I was pursing the job and the way it lead in
enhancing my skills and capabilities. It will evaluate and reflect things that I have learnt and
skilled that I have developed. Therefore the placement log is as follows:
My previous experience has learnt me about several method or processes that they used
by Mace construction in order to grow and sustain in market. Such as, I have learnt that well
organised process and procedure within firm contribute in coordinating people to work in team
for achievements of end goals. It helps in clarifying each role and responsibilities that need to be
completed by each person thereby reducing the chance of conflict and confusion to maximum
extend. Moreover systematic procedure contributes in effectively completing each task and
activities thereby delivering services to customers in limited time frame (Shershova, Nuzhina
and Kurochkin, 2018). So, I have learnt that effective processor has helped in completion of task
in minimum amount of wastage of resources and time. Likewise the Mace construction is large
firm so all the decision related to company are undertaken by top management and followed by
the subordinated for smooth operation of business. I have also learnt that company follow ethical
procedures and give emphasis on value that has contributed in building huge brand image and

customer satisfaction to maximum extend. Due to its large scale operation the function are
segregated to avoid confusion such as finance department, research and development and human
resources. All of the them work together or have strong relationship with each other that helped
in completion of task in effective manner. Such as finance department arrange sufficient finance
that is need by company to complete the task, and the way it can be effectively utilised. While
human resources hire potential candidate that have skills, knowledge and experience related to
construction so that better services can be render to customers.
Likewise I have learn that the mace construction undertake six process in order to
construct a building such as conception, design, pre-construction, procurement, construction and
post construction. The first stage of process is conception is which new and innovative idea has
been though by me as manager to complete the construction related project. It start with finding
appropriate property, design a particular layout of the building in order to finally implement the
same. Designing is second stage in which the manager of Mace design layout of building that
need to be constructed on proper paper and send it to the client for approval as per its need and
requirements. Procurement of resources is third stage of process that is implemented by Mace
construction in which it procures or makes arrange of resources through different sources at
minimum cost possible (Shi, 2021). Labour, equipment and other material are required to
complete the construction project so all these are arranged so that no problem can be caused in
future scenario.
The fourth stages or process involved pertaining to construction is “ getting things ready
to start building” for attainment of specific objectives. So it is stage at which all resources
pertaining to project are collected and organised therefore necessary steps can be taken in order
to complete the project. In addition to this scheduling of activities or task that needs to be
completed in specific sequence are decided so that there is no chance of confusion in future
scenario. Moreover construction is also one of stage or process in which construction of building
actual begin through making potential use of available physical and human resources with an
motivate that company can enjoy huge profit margin. The last stage of process that is followed
by company is evaluation of construction whether it has been made as per standard or not so that
corrective action can be taken for better outcome. Therefore everything from starting to ending
has been inspected to identify key error, alternative action that could be taken to complete the
project.

Through the experience it has been learnt that I have given a project of constructing a
building in which I face a lot of challenges, issue but through effectively managing all of them is
able to retained market position. First of all I have face problem related to planning of overall
resource and budget that will be required in order to complete the project as it is one of my real
experience. I was comforting challenge in deciding or estimating actual cost or expense that need
to be incurred in order to complete the project in fruitful manner. But through devoting extra
time and efforts, taking guidance from experience and superior related to the cost, expense
involved is able to prepare overall budget as well as resources that will be required to complete
the project of construction of building (Dhar and et.al., 2017). In addition to this I also face issue
pertaining to the designing of construction of building the length and width should be left so that
it can be prepared in well organised and best manner. So in order to resolve the designing issue I
have kept in mind the customer’s needs and wants that helped in effective designing and
construction of building with minimum mistakes.
Furthermore, through guidance of my senior and my university knowledge has helped
me in completing the project in effective manner. I do not have an effective communication skill
that has lead challenge for me for sharing information to other that resulted in lot of confusion
and delay in completion of project. I do not used to listen to the point of view of other, the
challenge or issue they are facing all these has lead me creating problem. So, with this I have
decided to take continuous feedback from staff member related to key issue that they are facing,
understanding their points of view, thereby finding alternative method through which project can
be complete and issue can be resolved (Goyal, Pabla and Dhami, 2019). My positive attitude has
helped me to stay positive and clam in every situation thereby finding more alternative method
that could be used to resolve the issue. Therefore as per my experience all these are various
challenges that I have face while handling the project for Mace construction as strategic
manager.
I have been appointed as strategic manager in Mace construction and responsible for
planning effective strategies that company could used in order to enhance its overall performance
and gain competitive advantages. Through my strategy formulation company was able to
minimise its cost of construction and delivered maximum value as I have emphasis on few things
such as providing appropriate training and development program and support to employees. So
that they are aware about the way in which particular task needs to be completed this has reduce

wastage of resources and time thereby yielding maximum outcome. Secondly I have find
alternative method through which resources can be procure to complete the project at minimum
price, So it has reduce overall expense or cost pertaining to the project and lead in delivering
services to customers in effective manner. Moreover through my strategic formulation Mace
construction is able to coordinate and motivated people to work in team or dedicatedly devote
their efforts as they have become more happy and satisfied. Company is able to retained
competitive advantages as well as strong brand image in minds and hearts of range of customers.
It can also be reflected from above analysis or from my previous experience as strategic
manager that there are various skills, knowledge and capabilities that I have developed that can
be fruitful for me in future personal and professional career. Likewise the first and the foremost
skills that I have learn as manager is the way in which I can strategically think and plan so that
company can enjoy higher market share and profit margin. I am able to plan appropriate
resources such as human and physical or finance will be required to complete particular activities
so that specific objective can be attained in effective manner (Rios and et.al., 2021). I am
organised by thinking and identified innovative idea that could be used in order to complete task
so that effective outcome can be achieved. As per my perspective it has also helped me in
developing problem solving skills as strategic manager I was responsible to resolve associated
problem for smooth operation and completion of project. I am able to develop strategy and
method to resolve complex problem through identifying and evaluating the alternative solution
that can be implemented thus appropriate decision can be taken to resolve the problem.
My job experience has also helped me in learning leadership and management skills that
is necessary in each and every professional career. I used to make use of different leadership
styles in order to influence my team member to adapt change, work hard for achievements of
common goals. Likewise I have make use of democratic leadership style in which I have taken
feedback from team member related to share or express their innovative idea pertaining to the
way task can be completed. It has helped me in creating a sense of belongingness among the
individuals and motivated to enhance their overall performance for attainment of construction
project goals. Along with it I have also make use of transformation leadership styles in order to
make my team member always motivated to adapt to external changes or situation rather than
sticking to similar procedure and process. This style has helped me in creating a learning and
friendly environment in company in which each individuals is highly dedicated to give its best

for benefits of firm. Furthermore it has helped in finding out innovative ideas that could be used
to complete the project and coordinating diverse range of people in the firm. So I have acquired
leadership’s styles or the way employees will be motivated and manage to effectively complete
task for achievement of project goals.
There are many more things that I have learnt while working at Mace construction such
as importance and value of professional commitment, the way code of conduct need to be follow
in order to complete task. Along with it following all ethical practices and procedure related to
the way task will be completed responsibly and accountably. Before the job I was quite not
serious about the responsibilities and task need to be completed but through working I have
become much more responsible, committed and dedicated employees that effective complete
work (Meixner and et.al., 2019). From my understanding it can also be stated that also developed
skill pertaining to communication and interpersonal as I have communicate with range of people
on regular basis. So it has enhanced my knowledge pertaining to language, vocabulary and words
that need to be used so that other individuals can easily understand the same. I also able to
develop interpersonal skills or strong relationship with others thus will help me in work in team,
coordinating range of people towards accomplishment of objective of project.
Furthermore I want to reflect on future placement at which I want to apply to get more
success and growth in professional career. The placement applies to me and future career plan as
through the work experience I have taught lot many things, identified key challenges that I have
face while being as strategic formulation manager in the organisation. Moreover, I want to be
strategic manager that is solely responsible for planning and managing the strategies so that best
outcome can be enjoyed by company. Therefore, in order to have bright future ahead I have
planned to work on my existing weakness so that I can easily get best opportunities or placement
in large multinational company that can give me better salary, healthy work place and many
more things. In addition to this it can be stated that through the placement I have understand the
way MNC operates, what skills that are required by strategic manager in order to complete its
task. Moreover it has helped me that it is too difficult to manage and coordinate range of people
as they have different perspective, though and belief (Meixner and et.al., 2019). I have also felt
challenges in planning in initial stage of my placement but as I proceed further is able to know
the way activities can be completed and desired objectives can be gained. Likewise I have
