INNOVATION AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES
1. Introduction
Innovation can be defined as a core new ideology or creative thinking area within the
major form of a methodology and devices. It is also being reviewed as the major applicationx
of solution, which fulfill every new requirement, existing market need as well as
unarticulated needs (Camisón and Villar-López 2014). This innovation takes place by
subsequent provisioning of highly effective business model, technology, service, procedures
and product that are being made accessible to the users and markets. Technological
innovation consists of activities, which eventually contribute to designing as well as
development of the new techniques and product. It even helps in improvement of the existing
products.
There are some of the most significant current trends as well as emerging trends in
technological innovation such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, blockchain
technology, virtual reality, Internet of Things or IoT, cloud computing, big data technology,
Devops, robotic process automation or RPA and many more (Kogan et al. 2017). These
above mentioned trends are responsible for bringing major information system innovation.
Blockchain technology, augmented reality, IoT, cloud computing and big data have become
extremely popular and are being utilized in several popular and significant organizations for
enhancing their business innovation such as data management, providing real life experiences
through AR in fashion industry and several others. The following essay will be outlining a
brief description about the current technological trend of augmented reality and how this
trend is providing advantages for business information system.

2. Discussion
2.1 Current Trend of AR for Information System Innovation
AR or augmented reality could be described as the interactive experiences of the
original world environment, within which the objects that reside within the original world are
being incremented with computerized perceptual data, majorly with sensory modalities like
olfactory, somatosensory, haptic, and auditory as well as visualises (Wu et al. 2013). An
overlaid sensory datum can either be constructed or be destructed. The entire experience is
being intertwined with respective real world like getting perceived as an immerse
characteristic of real environments. In this particular method, the AR substantially changes
the ongoing perceptions of anyone person within the environment of original world with the
simulated environment. The various applications of the augmented reality have eventually
spanned every commercial industry like entertainment, fashion world, medicine,
communication and education (Dunleavy and Dede 2014). In the education sector, content
might be accessed either by reviewing an image with the mobile devices or after scanning the
image.
With the subsequent and major help of all types of advanced technologies of AR, such
as computerized vision, object recognition, incorporation of AR cameras and many more,
confidential information regarding the respective surrounding world of user substantially
becomes either digitally manipulated as well as interactive in nature. This type of confidential
information regarding the environment or its major objects could be overlaid over the real
world (Barfield 2015). The information could either be real or virtual in nature and it could
be sensed and measured with the help of radio magnetic waves that are being overlaid in an
exact alignment. With such distinct effectiveness, it becomes such easier for the industries to
bring out IS innovation and creativity and hence providing major efficiency in the business
production.

2.2 Detailed Description of the Augmented Reality with Real World Examples
AR had been providing few important and distinctive innovativeness to the businesses
and industries. There are few examples that prove that augmented reality superimposes an
image onto the view of its users of the real world for enhancement of touch, sound as well as
smell (Di Serio, Ibáñez and Kloos 2013). The consumers become extremely receptive to
relevant experiences of AR and provide correct use cases. Five popular case studies of
popular organizations that prove that AR provides an unprecedented level of innovativeness.
The details of these five organizations are given belo:
i) Pepsi MAX: The 1st case study is of Pepsi MAX. The popular beverage
organization of Pepsi had recently pranked the citizens of London with their brand new
augmented reality enabling display at bus stop (5 Augmented Reality Examples. 2017). They
showed to the respective travellers various views such as crashing of a meteor, sudden
prowling of a tiger and finally the tentacles of an alien eventually grabbing the several people
from the street. The citizens of London were extremely happy with this type of innovation
and it proved that this particular current technological trend can bring out some of the basic
as well as the most significant competitive advantages for a business.
ii) Army of US: The second important and popular case study that proved IS
innovativeness through AR is for the army of the United States (Camisón and Villar-López
2014). The respective army is providing their various soldiers an improved situational
awareness by utilization of the technology of AR. They named this technology as TAR or
Tactical Augmented Reality. It is basically an eye piece, which helps the soldiers in precisely
or correctly locate their own and even positions of other soldiers. TAR helps in not only
locating their fellow soldiers, but also their enemies. It is also estimated that the technology
might replace the night vision goggles, hence enabling the soldiers to fight even in dark

(Bacca et al. 2014). The GPS system for soldier location spotting would also be replaced and
with Tar the soldier could easily image its targets for pointing of weapons.
iii) Acura: Another popular and significant case study of AR innovation is for Acura.
They have completed their live streaming of a race of augmented reality, which featured the
TLX sedan of the year of 2018. There were three laps in the race and every lap eventually
triggered a brand new and innovative AR course, which was visible to both live audience of
Facebook and the respective driver (Chi, Kang and Wang 2013). It also provided a unique
collection of obstacles as well as visuals, which were parts of the race. There were cameras
mounted on the helmets of drivers, which recorded every detail of the race. Every driver
subsequently sported the customer built racing helmets that were being embedded with the
technology of augmented reality. AR allowed an unprecedented full colour, high definition as
well as 180 degree view experience. These helmets were being linked to a system present in
the back seat, which provided a capacity of high performance render (Ong and Nee 2013). It
was required for keeping the entire experience running extremely smoothly and also in an
innovative manner.
iv) Disney: In the year of 2015, the extremely popular Disney Research eventually
developed a new technology with AR, which made colouring 3 dimensional book characters
as soon as they were being coloured (5 Augmented Reality Examples. 2017). It is considered
as one of the simplest examples of augmented reality, which made its users extremely happier
with the potential. The application was highly welcomed by the children as they got an extra
feature for book colouring in the most creative method.
v) Loreal: The organization of Loreal is one of the most popular and the oldest of
other companies that provides branded products for skin and hair of human beings. Recently
they have partnered with the Perfect Corporation for the core purpose of integration of the

makeup collections of the brand within the application of the YouCam Makeup, which is a
move that was substantially challenging the method customers have discovered (Cheng and
Tsai 2013). The implementation of AR has allowed them to try on the shades virtually so that
the user gets an idea how he or she would look after buying and originally using them.
According to the owner of Loreal, the current generation is obsessed with strobing, colour
correcting and contouring. This type of partnership within Perfect Corporation and Loreal by
placing the iPads in every beauty corner, however even enables the customers in trying on
make up conveniently from home. In the present situation, this particular application has been
hosting almost sixty four virtual looks of beauty for their fans within several different
countries of Russia, Mexico, India and the United States (Craig 2013). Every look
incorporated the major collection for products of Loreal Paris and hence getting a beauty
experience with augmented reality technology.
2.3 Usefulness of Augmented Reality in Business Information System
AR is the major and a prominent emerging technology in business information
system. The increment in the recognition has occurred for the recent success that AR has
provided to business (FitzGerald et al. 2013). A development of the glasses of AR has highly
impacted the organizations and users. There are several solutions for the digital innovation
and also for providing guidance due to the successful deployment of AR glasses during
executing a design oriented project. There are two parts of this augmented reality for
enhancing business information system, which are computer mediated reality and mixed
reality. Augmented reality provides a primary valuation by which the elements of this digital
world gets amalgamated with the perception of the person. This is being done with successful
integration of the immersive sensation that could be perceived as natural phenomenon. The
earlier functional system of augmented reality, which majorly provided an immersive mixed
reality experience for all of its users (Piumsomboon et al. 2013). These are being completed
