INTRODUCTION
Intercultural competence is the key aspect to operate efficiently as across cultures to
manage effectively and to communicate and perform work with other individuals from diverse
cultural backgrounds. It is emergent competence that needed in each workplace with different
situations and in multinational management and company (Abduh, Rosmaladewi, and Mahmud,
2021). The following report covers the criteria of cross cultural problem and theories in suitable
manner. It is an effective asset that are maximising the globalised world where individual
communicate with individual from diverse cultures and nations who have been formed by varied
standards, ethics and value.
TASK
Where did Mark go wrong?
In the present years, various western nation have accepted their sections and divisions
with their immigrants into their nations. Mark asks question and try to maintain work as
according to their American members. It sounds like that, individuals in Indian management are
not comfortable with Mark with it and act rude by their behaviour. As in varied sort of the Asian
nation, cultures is not suitable acceptable in terms to them. As it will present the key manner in
presenting their paying attention towards them in an effective and efficient manner. By noticing
and observing the members in the business of the host nation of the culture it will help Mark to
follows their roles and responsibilities in a suitable and proper way. By paying attention from
positive to negative aspect it will help them to get reply to their own communication aspects with
the culture as effectively (Bordbar, and et.al., 2021). Mark should understand the issues and the
key aspects of the problems that will follows the criteria of business courses and activities and do
not try to go on wrong way. As by not following negative manner, Mark will present the suitable
and proper courses of marketing performance and presentation through the division of cross –
culture method.
How could you help Mark better understand this cross - cultural problem?
Cross - culture in the managerial business will termed to the business and its hard work
that its individual will communicate in effective and professionals backgrounds. As the adjective
cross cultural will relates to the manner of acceptance of national, local differences with potential
way and methods of a desirable division. When candidates of the multinational business will

INTRODUCTION
Intercultural communication refers to the process of communication between two
individuals from different cultures (Anderson and et. al., 2019). It is important to develop
effective intercultural communication skills in order to engage ion global business as cultural
differences play a deciding role in success or failure of a company.
This report is based on the case study of John who meets with Omani industrialist to
discuss future prospects of joint venture but is not communicated by the industrialist after the
meting. There is change in demeanour of Omani industrialist after John mentions that his father
is in nursing home. The present report utilizes intercultural frameworks to understand
interpersonal interactions in this case. In addition to this intercultural communication theories are
used to explain and support the discussion and provide effective advise.
MAIN BODY
Where did John go wrong?
The main aspect of the meeting which contributed to ineffective communication between
John and the Omani industrialist is when John mentioned that his father is currently residing at
nursing home. The change in demeanour of the industrialist showcases a shift in interpersonal
interaction between John and the industrial which is incited by mentoring his father residing at
the nursing Hotel. The shift in reaction of the industrialist is caused by differences in cultural
values and beliefs of British John and the Omani industrialist.
Omani culture values close relationships between elderly and younger generations of the
family. Showing respect towards older members of the family is a value which is ingrained in
Omani culture and can be traced backed to Koran. As Oman is an Islamic country, values
described in the Holy Book of Islam are highly valued. In Sũrat al-Isra god commands that the
elderly are esteemed, treated dutifully and spoken to gently and polity (Bakić-Mirić, 2021).
Elders are consulted by the members of family even if their advice may not be followed in
Ompani culture. In addition to this, Omani culture holds the traditions of family business so it is
expected that elderly and their children take business decisions together.
On he other hand the view of British culture towards elderly is drastically different.
Keeping elderly relatives of the family in care homes as the culture in UK is youth centric. In
addition to this, characteristics such as individualism and independence are valued which

INTRODUCTION
Inter culture is a situation which occur between two or more culture. This problems occur in an
organisation when they has people of different culture and background (Curran, 2018). This
create various problems in organisation as conflicting situation and also not allow company to
focus on their goals ad objectives. In this case. John is a person who is facing issues related to
cross culture due and does not create favourable situation for company. This Project report
includes discussion of problems of job and also helps John to understand problems of inter
culture. This report also includes discussion of different theories of intercultural and also
suggestion to John in order to overcome of problem.

Where did John gone wrong?
There are various cross culture problem occurred in business including ethnocentrism,
psychological barrier, stereotyping, geographical distance, language distance, conflicting values.
As per this case study, John is facing cross culture problem which can create impact on their
meeting. In meeting with Khalid, John stated normal conversation as he know there is a culture
of starting normal conversation. John has stared conversation by talking about whether and his
flight. He also talk about golf match which is good initiate to start a conversation (Ennis and
Riley, 2018). Mr. Khalid then talk about health of John's father and John respond to him without
any delay that his father was fine when he last saw his father at nursing home before several
moths. Mr. Khalid is a Omani industrialist living in Arabic country and culture of that country is
different from European country. As people of European country is living away from their
families whereas people of Arabic countries are more Family oriented. Mr. Khalid when get to
know that John as only meet once with his father as time when his fathers is facing health issues.
It create bad impression in minds of Mr. Khalid and they made perception about him as
irresponsible person.
How could you help John better understand this cross culture problem?
Cross culture problems refers to those problems which occur with comparison of
different culture (Murawski and Bick, 2017). There are various problems occur in case of John
which are as follows:
