Intrinsic motivation describes the behaviour which is driven by the internal rewards. It is
also describes as inner drives of a person that propels them in order to pursue an activity not for
the external rewards, but because the action is enjoyable for their own self. A person is motivated
through challenge, fun or satisfaction which included with an activity not for the external
pressure, outcome or reward. Intrinsic motivation is important for the company as it helps their
employees in order to become more engaged, productive as well as happier in their work (Lepper
and Malone, 2021). The following research is to prepare in order to analyse the importance of
intrinsic motivation for making employees engaged with their work in order to work effectively
in the organisation. The reason for the selection of this topic is to collect and analyse the
information about the intrinsic motivation as well as how it helps in engaging employees with
their work. In the following research proposal, selected organisation is Hilton Hotel which is
multinational hospitality company of America. The research covers literature review, research
questions or objectives, research design and methodology, research methods, research ethics
considerations, resource requirements, limitation including an identification of contingency plans
as well as project plan including time line or Gantt Chart.
Background of the company
Hilton Hotel is one of the luxurious hotel of America which was founded by Conrad
Hilton in 1919. The organisation has around 600 luxurious hotels in 78 countries which makes it
iconic and global brand in all over the world (A Brief History of Hilton Hotels, 2022). While
opening its new hotel which is Caribe Hilton Hotel in Puerto Rico, the organisation become the
world's fits international hotel chain. In 1947, the Roosevelt Hilton one of the hotel of Hilton
corporation located in New York city becomes the first hotel in all over the world who install
televisions in their guest rooms. In 1959, the organisation opened its first airport in San
Francisco which makes them more popular and effective in order to provide best services to their
customers.

The current research is of higher value and would be helpful for the reader to gather
information in terms of work management and importance of motivation in the organisation.
This has been observed that there are certain points which are related with increasing the level of
motivation in the organisation so that the current research is going to instigate such aspects
which would be used by the organisation in order to develop employee motivation (Chen and et.

The major rationale behind this research is to increase basic understanding related with
motivation and employee engagement. This has been analysed that employee motivation is one
of the major measure which is used within the business so that to increase employee engagement.
In the terms of an organisation their employee are considered as their major asset in which using
employee motivation overall engagement within employee can be developed. Besides this the
current research is also related with dual perspective such as personal and professional
perspective (Renard and Snelgar, 2018). In terms of personal perspective the I am willing to
develop their different skills such as research skills, analytical skills, communication skills and
many others. Using such skills the I can develop their career in appropriate manner. On the other
hand, the current research will also develop professional perspective will provide edge to me for
their career in which future researches can be conducted by them in more effective manner in
which significant benefits can be acquired.

Concept of intrinsic motivation in context of UK hospitality industry?
According to Taylor and et. al., (2018), intrinsic motivation is considered as the inner
motivation which is related with improving employee performance. This is related with attaining
abilities of employees in which responsibilities of the employees can be exerted. By building
appropriate intrinsic motivation employee may develop their skills so that overall involvement in
the organisation can be improved. Boosting employee motivation is considered as the trick-some
approach which is helpful for the business to manage multi-dimensional aspects in the
organisation so that organisational working can be managed and separate edge can be attained in
the organisation. This is the toughest job for the managers that to motivate their employees so
that best out of them can be exerted and at the same time business objectives can be attained. For
an organisation motivating their employee is one of the typical task which would be helpful in
gaining benefits in terms of their skills and objectives within the businesses.
Intrinsic motivation is considered as doing an activity which is related with inherent
satisfaction level rather than minimising separable consequences. This is the situation in which
learning and growing opportunities within the business can be managed. Employee satisfaction is
the basic element in which dynamic aspects in which workplace opportunities can be acquired
and in the same time best judgement within the business can be seen. There are different factors
which are being considered by the organisation while developing intrinsic employee motivation,
these factors are such as autonomy in which needed amount of freedom can be exerted so that

that can be used by the organisation in order to develop employee engagement so that to manage

can be developed and at the same time overall business objectives can be attained. Some of the
methods are elaborated as under:
Supplying of right tools: The organisation is needed to supply right tool in the organisation so
that overall manner business objectives can be attained. There are certain tool which are required
to be used in such manner that their fuller utilisation can be made. This way by providing
appropriate tool to appropriate resource business objectives can be maximised. This aspect is
related with using individual productivity in such manner that employee engagement can be
affected.
Giving attention to individual personnel: The organisation is giving significant attention to
each person so that employee skills can be used in appropriate manner. In this manner the
organisation is associated with using skills of their employees in a manner that day-to-day
activity in appropriate manner (Jung and Yoon, 2019). There are various instances in the
business which are related with employees and using their skills in appropriate manner so that
overall motivation can be rendered within the workplace.
Giving training and coaching: The organisation is also needed to provide significant training
and coaching to their employees so that in significant manner employees may acquire different

2.1.5 RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY
Research design: This is the research method that helps in completing the whole study in
a systematic manner. It is the method which accommodates in the procedure of recording,
analysing and interpreting information as per the need of study. The research design is
categorised in the three forms which include exploratory, experimental and descriptive research
design. I shall be using descriptive research design as it accommodates in the collection, analysis
and interpretation of statistical figures and facts (Rinjit, 2020). The major benefit that will be
gained by investigator is that it records relevant and accurate numerical data and help me in
accomplishing each research question and objective.
Research Methodology: It is method that gives different types for accumulating and
evaluating information in a proper way. I will be using Saunders research onion framework
because it gives particular layers to collect and evaluate data (Bauer and et. al., 2021). Some of
the layers are: research philosophy, research approach, research strategy, data collection and so
on.
Research Philosophy: This is the method which helps in the analysis of information in a
precise manner. The philosophy is classified in two sub-parts which are: positivism and
interpretivism philosophy. I will be depending upon positivism philosophy as it is linked with the
analysis and evaluation of data which has statistical terms (Budianto, 2020). The positivism
philosophy will give principles that evaluate relevancy of numerical information.
Research Approach: The other research method which assists in the analysis and
evaluation of data. The approach is of two sub-forms which are: inductive and deductive
approach (Erro-Garcés and Alfaro-Tanco, 2020). I will be using deductive approach because it
uses the existing theories to evaluate and examine the gathered numerical information in the
short duration of time. The major advantage that investigator will experience through deductive
approach is carrying out result in short time duration.
Research Strategy: In an investigation, a researcher has to go depend upon several
research strategies so that they can have great information and attain objectives. Some of the
significant research strategies are: action research, grounded theory, survey, systematic literature
review, interview, observation, focus group and so on (Pandey and Pandey, 2021). Investigator
will be using survey because it helps in the collection of numerical and fresh-hand information. It
assists in the systematic collection of information by directly approaching the source of

information. When information is directly assembled through source of data then it reduces the
chance of alteration in the information and authenticity of data is maintained. In survey,
questionnaire is chosen as the instrument because in this respondents are included who have
knowledge about the proposed topic of the investigation. On the other hand, I will also be using
systematic literature review (Cr, 2020). Systematic literature review is the research strategy that
allows investigator to collect secondary piece of information. This strategy allows researcher to
address each research question with great quality second-hand information. Some of the
secondary sources include: books, articles, journals, newspapers, publications, websites,
magazines and so on. The major benefit that I will gain with secondary research methods is that
it saves time of the investigator and do not not need to put additional efforts in collecting
information.
Data Collection: Data collection method is another method for obtaining the information
related to the current study. The two main type of data collection method are primary and
secondary data collection method. Primary data collection method focuses on collecting fresh or
raw information related to the chosen topic (Nayak and Singh, 2021). On the other hand,
secondary data collection method is used for accumulating second hand information. In the
existing research, I am focusing on using primary as well as secondary data collection method
for accumulating data related to the current study. Questionnaire is framed for collecting primary
data as it helps in gathering information from large number of respondents within less time
period. In order to collect secondary information different sources are used by the investigator
such as books, newspapers, publications etc.
Sampling: It is the research method that allows researcher to choose human
representatives in the study for collecting information from them. This is the method which is
quite effective when investigation is quantitative and primary research. There are two forms
which are: probability and non-probability sampling (Oo, 2020). I will be using probability
sampling because it accommodates in the selection of large number of representative from the
given large population. I will be choosing 40 managers from Hilton Hotel because they know
through which strategies employees get engaged and motivated in the workplace. Under
probability sampling, I will be following random strategy and this allows that there is no
requirement of setting any particular criteria to choose respondents.

Research Instrument: It is the method that helps in the accomplishment of the study.
Researcher will be using questionnaire as the research instrument because it helps in collecting
data that has numerical information (Jaaffar and et. al., 2020). The main advantage of
questionnaire is that it helps in collecting raw data which is available in numerical form. It also
helps in making outcome which can be easily measured and compared.
Time Horizon: Time is the component which helps in the completion of study. There are
two forms which are: cross-sectional and longitudinal time horizon. I will be using cross-
sectional time horizon because it works in real time and collects data which has great worth in
the current time.
2.1.6 RESEARCH METHODS
Research method assists in the collection of data that helps in the attainment of pre-
defined objectives. It is of two kinds which are: qualitative and quantitative research method. I
will be selecting quantitative research method that facilitates in the accumulation of numerable
information (Egorov and et. al., 2021). The main advantage of quantitative research choice is that
it accommodates in recording data which includes numerical figures and facts. Numerical figures
and facts assist investigator to attain pre-defined aim and objectives of the study. Questionnaire
is the method that researcher will be using to collect statistical content in the shorter time
duration.
2.1.7 RESEARCH ETHICS CONSIDERATIONS
Ethical principles are essential for doing the investigation in a systematic way. Some of
the ethical principles are: getting informed consent, protecting each respondent & representative,
protecting confidential information of each respondent and many more (Stenfors, Kajamaa and
Bennett, 2020).
2.1.8 RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS
Researcher will be using certain resources to complete the proposed study. Researcher
will be using financial resources for carrying out certain expenses like stationary and travel
expenses (Nyirenda and et. al., 2020). I will also be depending upon resources like books,
publications, newspapers etc.

2.1.9 LIMITATIONS, INCLUDING AN IDENTIFICATION OF
CONTINGENCY PLANS
While planning and doing an investigation, researcher will be facing certain limitations
because it is not an easy task. Some of the limitations are: lack of funds, availability of multiple
secondary sources, lack of information about relevant sources to collect data and so on. The
other back up plan made by investigator is that researcher will depend upon qualitative
information to achieve pre-defined objective.
2.1.10 PROJECT PLAN INCLUDING TIME LINE/GANTT CHART
Planning of project is very essential and necessary because it decides the resources
needed for meeting the objectives along with beginning and ending date of the whole study.
Gantt chart is used by investigator for scheduling several tasks and activities of the study in a
systematic manner. It is the tool which gives clear information about the activities and the time
needed to complete these activities. It also gives information about the beginning and ending
date of the study.
