INTRODUCTION
Management is to forecast, plan, organize, command, coordinate and control whole
organization. The modification of resources into utility is also known as management.
Managing is direction of company either it is business or not-for-profit firm and government
assemblage. It involves different actions of setting the approach as well as timing of workers
efforts to achievement of aim of firm. For that, utilizing different application of available
resources such as human resource, financial, natural, practical application etc. In this context,
manager is planning for judge changes in external environment, creating person into teams,
allocating resources to them and motivating to them for achieving goals of company(Anderson
and et.al., 2018). Effective administration is important for every entity. Management involves
factors of production along with machine, material and money. This study is based on Imperial
Hotel. It is owned and managed portion of well-known global branded chain of hotels in 4 star
market. The hotel is situated in the Heart of London's West End that provides high standards
services for international business and tourists guests who have high expectation. Now, hotel
faces many problems such poor guest satisfaction, ineffective leadership and management, poor
team work at front as well as back house office, 80% of staff leave and poor attendance, negative
work culture amongst the staff with high sick leave at workplace. This report will analysis
individual problem by following management theory. It will explain process to effective
management for the problem in the hotel. It will analysis resolution of problem that are faced by
Imperial hotel.
ANALYSIS OF INDIVIDUAL PROBLEM
Imperial hotel is international branded chain of hotels in 4 star market in hospitality
industry. They provide high standard services to international business and tourists guests who
have high expectation. But recent time, hotel faces many problems at workplace such as poor
guests satisfaction, 80% of staff leaving by poor supervisor, lack of control of procedure by
previous head of department, ineffective leadership and management, poor team work at front
and back house office, negative work culture amongst staff with high sick leave at the
workplace. In this context, manager of hotel follow Tuckman's team development for solving
poor team work and use of IT system at front office staff in the hotel.

Forming: It is the first stage in which all individuals to form team. In this step, all
individuals behave independently with each others. It is all about building relationship between
all team members. But they collect information and impression about each member, scope of
task, challenges and chances as well as way to approach it. During forming stage, leader directs
to build relation ship with each team members for clarify improper information of hotel. The
concern orientation is primary task function. In this stage, avoiding opinion, conflicts and
disputation between team member. Every team member form impression of each other and gain
understanding of team do together.
Storming: Team members easily express their opinion during storming stage. There is
conflict between team member's natural working style when storming frequently starts. But
sometimes, it can clash personalities and affects team work because every one work differently.
Team members progressively frustrated and lose motivation for task during the conflicts. During
this stage, achieving conflict management(Bruce Tuckman's 'Stages, 2018). Behaviour such as
negative mind set and attitude about team as well as success of team, culture of firm, external
factors, competition, questioning for goals of team, resisting opinions, challenging authority,
forming of small team involve storming stage.

Norming: Team members get positive about activity is done by individual, whole
members in the norming stage. Team members actively communicate each other's talent, ability
and experiences, so that morale of al team member is high. They respect and trust each other that
are better relationship of team. Team directs on purpose and result in this stage. Member
improve communication, become more flexible and independent on each other. Norming
behaviour involves open discussion and acknowledge, improve team ethos, maintain team rules
and expectation, good working relationship, trusting and supporting each other.
Performing: All team members have to trust and accept each other. Now, single person
capable, independent and able to manage process of decision making without requirement of
leaders supervision. During performing stage, teams work high level as unit and discover
impressive approaches to work without improperly struggle. Performing activity involves
members control energies towards achieving objectives, sense of freedom as well as belonging,
sharing leadership responsibility and delegation of work by following process of decision
making.

includes reception, conference as well as banqueting, restaurant and bars.

battle between front office workers at workplaces.
Training for IT system: In context of, poor utilization of information technology system
at reception, so that manager has given training relating IT system to front office staff of
Imperial hotel. With the help of it, reception staff provides accurate information about room
availability, timing of cleaning, arrivals, meeting and conferences(Galegher, Kraut and Egido,
eds., 2014). Through training, staff develop knowledge about information technology system
relating to get records of room availability, timing of meeting, room cleaning etc.
Giving accurate information: It is needed to collect accurate information and data
relating to any kind of activity or work in context to organization. In order to that, Imperial
hotel's departments giving informations accurately to front office division, so that there is no
occurred any kind of conflicts between front office and other department. Giving wrong
information that happen to battle ultimately it becomes ineffective team work at workplaces.
Maintain records: It is needed to maintain correctly records by utilizing effectively
information technology system in the organization. In this context, reception workers of Imperial
hotel make sure that maintain records such as room availability, timing of guests arrival, meeting
and conferences etc. so that, there is no conflict raised between staff and manager in the hotel.
For that, manager provide training of front office staff for utilise IT system for maintain records
effectively.
Therefore, Imperial hotel make sure that follow different ways to effective management
of team work and develop knowledge regrading information technology system. They also adopt
team development theory for building relationship and resolving conflicts between front office
staff and other departments at the workplace. So that, it is necessary to effective management of

Imperial hotel faces many problems at the workplace, so that they appoint consultant for
resolving issues. Therefore, consultant give advices and suggestion for solving problem of

utilization of appropriate IT system in the hotel.
Cross-team building exercises: It is necessary to develop cross team building exercise
in the workplace. With the help of it, sharing ideas, opinion and suggestion to solve any kind of
conflict of organization(Steadman and et.al., 2018). It includes different activities and games that
helps to build relationship and trust among team members in the workplace.
Review of team bonus schemes: It is necessary to get review of bonus schemes of team.
It is also known as team based rewards system. This helps to build trust to individual and
achieving goals of firm. Therefore, company give appropriate bonus to every team members for
increasing motivation level and efficiency of working.
Training into IT systems: It is needed to provide training to information technology
system to workers in the workplace. In case of Imperial hotel, manager has made efforts to give
training relating to develop knowledge of IT system to front office staff(Chuang, Jackson and

maintain good communication, build relationship, manage conflicts, training for it system, giving
accurate information, maintain records for effective management for problems. Furthermore,
report has completed that adopt different techniques such as cross-team building exercises,
review of team bonus schemes, training into IT systems, conflicts resolution, effective
communication, set good example for resolution of problem in imperial hotel. These ways assist
in solving all problems which faced by Imperial hotel such as poor guest satisfaction, ineffective
leadership and management, negative work culture etc. In addition to that, these techniques help
in improving productivity and performance of hotel in 4 star hotel chain market as well as entire
hospitality industry. Through it, manager make sure that improve work culture positively and
efficiency of business. With the help of it, manager provide high standards of services to
international business tourists and guests who have high expectation towards hotel.
