INTRODUCTION Management is considered as the way a person handle, care, treat and supervise things which help business in attaining their goal as well as objective. There are several characteristics of management such as it is goal oriented, continuous process, multi dimensional, group activities, intangible force, dynamic function and so on. Organisation taken for this assignment is Imperial Hotel which is located at Holborn, London, United Kingdom (Albert and Beatty, 2014). The original building of respective hotel is designed by Charles Fitzroy Doll and it was build between 1905 and 1911. The aim of this report is to conduct study related to staff turnover in the company for which a they are conducting evaluation through different management and operations theories as well as it will also include development of 3 point plan for resolving issues related to staff turnover. Analysis of the individual problem (a) In an hospitality industry there are numbers of issues arise which impact on their productivity as well as working. In respect of Imperial Hotel they are also going through numbers of problems such as Staff Turnover. This issues is generally high at respective industry because there are various peoples or students who belongs from European Union want to work for short time duration at London and for them hostel industry is the best option. There are numbers for reasons identified at the time of exit interview at Imperial Hotel, from which some major are given below:- Poor perception of work culture:At respective hotel working culture is not much effective due to which employees feel demotivated. This is generally arise because sometime supervisory as well as management get aggressive on their staffs like waiters, chef, sue chef and so on (Alvesson and Willmott, 2012). Due to which employees not able to conduct their work in effective manner as well as they are not able to feel motivated, connected and valuable at the workplace. Unsociable working hours:At Imperial Hotel Staff Turnover is high due to which other working staff need to do overtime if they didn't want to do. Due to over timing as well as over burden of work employees are not feel happy and satisfied 1
with their job role. This will also lead to continuously increase in staff turnover ratio at the respective hotel of United Kingdom. Lack of proper and regular training:In a company it is essential for management to provide quality training and development to their staff so that they can work accordingly as well as effectively (Combe, 2014). However, in respect of Imperial Hotel, they not provide proper as well as regular training and development to their staffs which impact on their working because they not able to know any new way to do work in effective manner. Poor Pay and opportunities:At respective company, they provide poor pay and other facilities to their staffs which impact on their moral as well as satisfaction level that directly lead to increase in staff turnover ratio. Imperial Hotel also not provide opportunities to enhance career or future due to which staff not seem themselves as the long term assets of company. Transport facilities at night:At Imperial Hotel both women and men are working and due to high staff turnover they have to work at over night due to which employees faces issues in travelling at the night. Along with this travelling in central London is difficult as well as expensive and according to that staffs are not getting pay. Betteropportunitiesfromcompetitors:ImperialHotelhavenumberof competitors who are providing more effective services to their employees. So respective hotel employees are also leaving their job and switching to those competitive hotels at which they are better pay, quality working culture, huge benefits and many more (Kim, 2012). Due to this reason respective company is facing high staff turnover at their workplace. These are some of the main issues due to which staff turnover increase with 80 percent at Imperial Hotel in a year that directly affect on their productivity as well as profitability ratio. Respective issues is also interrelated with some other reason or issues such as negative working culture among the staffs as well as poor team working and ineffective use of IT system. These issues are also lead directly lead to staff turnover issues at the Imperial Hotel. 2

In respect of Imperial Hotel they are facing issues related to staff turnover ratio, so for that they can adopt numbers of management as well as operational theories and principles. From which some major are given below:- Theory X and Y This theory is developed by Douglas McGregor in year 1960. According to him human behaviour is divided on the basis of two factors i.e. X who have negative attitude toward behaviour and another is Y who have always positive behaviour for doing work. In respect of Imperial Hotel in order to reduce staff turnover they need to motivate their employees and for that may adopt this theory i.e. Theory X and Y (Wilkinson, Wood and Demirbag, 2014). This is so because it will help them in developing effective decision according to the behaviour of the staffs. It is so because X behaviour employees not like to do work, they avoid responsibilities, seek security, required guidance and on. On the other hand Y behaviour peoples like to work, highly self motivated, creative behaviour, seekresponsibilitiesandmanyothers.Sorespectivehotelmanagercandevelop motivational strategies according to the behaviour of employees. Training principles There are number of principles which a company can adopt in order to train their employees in effective manner. In respect of Imperial Hotel, they need to develop training programmes so that they their employees feel motivated and retain at respective place for a long time duration. Train every day-In respect of respective hotel it is essential for them to provide training on daily basis so that they can enhance their skills, knowledge and capabilities in effective manner. Develop proper learning objective-For hotel management it is essential to develop proper learning objective so that they can develop training and develop programmes in accordingly (Albert and Beatty, 2014). Address skill gaps-It is one of the main principle on which respective hotel need to develop their training and development programme. According to this it is essential for a hotel to develop plan accordingly so that they able to overcome gap in effective manner. These are some of the major principles of training which must be consider by Imperial Hotel management so that they can minimise staff turnover ratio. Contingency Management Theory This theory is one of the best way to conduct management in an organisation because through it manager able to manager their work in effectivemanner that leadsto attainment of goal successfully (Alvesson and Willmott, 2012). In respect of Imperial Hotel, according to this it is essential for management to conduct proper analysis of workplace so that they can develop strategies as well as plans in effective manner. Along with this, according to this theory it is essential for them to develop proper strategies so that they can minimise staff turnover at their workplace by motivating them impressively as well as successfully. These are the main operational and managerial theories and practices which can be adopted by Imperial Hotels in order to overcome issue of staff turnover ratio. Through this they also able to improve employees productivity, take effective decision and many more. CONCLUSION From above discussed point it can be determine as well as summarise that in a company there are numbers of problems arise which impact on their working as well as productivity. So it is necessary for them to conduct proper analysis so which help in developing strategies accordingly which lead to minimising issues at the workplace. There are several types of issues arise at workplace such as low motivation level of 6
employees, staff turnover, negative working culture and so on. From this one the main issues is staff turnover which can be resolve by several ways such as training and development, providing new appraisal scheme and so on.
