Introduction to managing and leading people INTRODUCTION Managing people is defined as the management of the personal and the professional feelings of the individuals to bring the best out of them and to make them giving their best performance to achieve the goals and the objectives of the firm. In this project, there is an explanation about the leadership and its 2 approaches that are path goal theory and the situational theory. Leadership and its approaches: Leadership is defined as a act of influencing all the workers of the group or the organisation to work as a team and direct them for their own development and to develop the firm so as to achieve the goals or the objectives of the organisation and allows a person to make rules and regulations for his followers and also allow him to set the objectives for the group. Leadership is actually defined as a talent of guiding, directing, motivating its followers to give their best to achieve the goals and the objectives of the firm. Path goal theory: Path goal theory explains that the leader motivates and reward his employees for their abilities and help them overcome their weaknesses for increasing their productivity in order to achieve the objectives of the company. In this theory, the behaviour of the leader depends on the performance of his followers and also depends on the satisfaction and the motivation of his employees. Advantage: This theory helps leaders to motivate his followers to bring best out of them so that he can understand their maximum capacity and the way of their work. Disadvantage: In this theory, all the responsibilities are in the hands of leader, so there is a risk of worker dependency on the leader, or there is a probability of dissatisfaction of the employees. Situational leadership: Situational leadership explains that the leader has to change his pattern with change of situation to deal with it, and to comfort his employees. He has to adjust with his style to fit in the situation by understanding the demands of his followers and to meet their demands. In this theory, employees of the company did not have to adjust with the situation but they have to follow and implement the change in their work which is made by their leader. Advantage: This theory helps to comfort employees allow them to focus on their work which leads to work done faster and easily. Disadvantage: This theory creates difficulty for the leaders as they have to change their styles with every changed situation and also diverts them from long term objectives. CONCLUSION From the above study, it is concluded that leadership is guiding employees to reach the goals of the organisation, and leadership theories i.e., path goal theory and situational theory helps leaders to increase productivity of his followers, and giving them motivation, satisfaction and also increase their performance rate providing them comfort zone.
