INTRODUCTIONOperation management can be define as process in which different activity and functionspromoted by the enterprise. In this way successful outcome and result can be gain througheffective operations. Present report based on Marks & Spencer which is successful retailenterprise and deals in different products such as food, milk, arrivals etc. Therefore, the presentreport include management structure of the chosen business. Furthermore, it covers roles of bothmanagers and leaders that helps to accomplish goals and objectives of the business. At last,report will be discusses about different theories to gain growth and sustainable performance. Project 1Introduction to the organisation and management structureMarks & Spencer is public limited company, established in 1884 in UK. It was foundedby Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer. It is specialises in selling clothes, luxury food productsand home products. It currently has 979 stores across the U.K. including 615 that only sell foodproducts (Bolman and Deal, 2017). In 1998 the company became the first British retailer to makepre-tax profit of over 1 billion. The company also have the strong brand image in market becauseof low price offerings products. As the firm is deal at global level and also provide variety ofproducts such as groceries, clothes, deodorants etc. Marks & Spencer follows a flat organisational structure. There has limited levels ofmanagement between upper level and low level employees In this organisational structure. Thisorganisational structure helps Marks & Spencer to encourage employees in decision makingprocess. This organisational structure motivates the employees to work with more efficiency inthe organisation (Cox, 2015). As the firm follows the flat structure, therefore the decisionmaking power is up to the manager and leaders and they also consult with their employees inorder to reach at decision power.
