INTRODUCTION
Leading and managing change is referred to carrying out those changes which will
benefit business organisations in sustaining a strong presence against rival companies. Managing
change is concerned with a set of structures and tools that results in keeping a change effort
under control. Leading change is the manner in which formulated changes are implemented in an
organisation in a desired way. If organisations will not implement changes as per the requirement
of customers, it will became difficult for them to manage business in a profitable manner (Al-
Haddad and Kotnour, 2015). This assignment is based on Barnacle Bay Country House Hotel
which is also called as Barnacles. Hotel is situated on Scottish Coast and established in 1949.
This report will cover evaluation of change management theories, strategies and tactical options.
Planned and unplanned changes along with organisational developmental approaches. Beside
this, key areas of individual and organisational resistance to change is discussed. At last, change
within context of business strategy, organisational leadership and globalisation is discussed in a
detailed manner.
MAIN BODY
Case scenario:
Barnacles Bay Country House Hotel is a renowned hotel situated on Scottish coast in
rural setting. Hotel is founded in 1949 and located few miles apart from a big market town.
Barnacles offers a sizeable restaurant, hundred en-suite bedrooms, a nine hole golf course, an
outdoor swimming pool etc. in 1950s and 1960s, wealthiest people around globe prefer to stay
their during vacations due to their quality services and friendliness. But as people and technology
is becoming more advanced, preference of customer changes on a regular basis. Due to this,
glamorous past of Barnacles is fading away and only loyal clients prefer to come here during
visits and vacations. Beside this, local families are fond of this place due to their Sunday lunch
menu.
Peacock Hall is a Luxurious, four star hotel is going to open in same locality. Peacock
hall will offer leisure club, stunning bridal rooms, health spa and conference facilities to its
customers which is a serious threat for Barnacles. It can reduce the profitability, revenue and
popularity of Barnacles in a considerable manner. In this regard, owner and manager of company
i.e. Rita Clement has secured funding from bank so that wholesale refurbishment of hotel can

takes place. In this regard, company is going to buy new furnishings, carpets and décor along
with a new indoor pool having sauna and a gymnasium near by. Also, hotel is going to introduce
modern menu alongside expensive wine so that tough competition can be given to Peacock hall.
Carried out changes will be finalised in accordance with the complaints and queries of customers
during past years. New hired HR manager of company is given some objectives like adopting
appropriate strategy to adopt wholesale culture change, reduction in customer complaints and
deployment of staff in a more efficient manner.
Reasons why wholesale culture change is difficult to implement speedily at Barnacles
Barnacles is a famous restaurant which was offering standardised services to its
customers from past 70 years. But with changing time, as technology and new trends have
overtake marketplace, customer base of hotel has considerably reduced. Beside this, a new rival
Peacock hall is going to open within same locality. To reduce the impact of Peacock hall which
is a four star hotel ,management in Barnacles have decided to bring some changes within their
organisation. These changes will benefits the Hotel management to sustain a firm position in the
minds of customers. In this context, owner-manager of hotel has secured a loan from bank so that
high investment can be given to finance wholesale refurbishment of hotel. With the help of
funding, hotel management is going to buy a new décor, furniture and carpets. Along with this,
hotel is planing to build a gym and indoor pool with sauna to enhances the comfortableness and
satisfaction of its customers. Other than this, manager in Barnacles have decided to create a new
menu of dishes and expensive wine list to grab the attention of customers in a more considerable
manner.
In this regard, management in Barnacles is introducing wholesale cultural change. It will
results in changing and restructuring the existing culture of organisation as per the situations and
requirements. In this regard, manager of hotel will deploy the existing staff of company in a way
so that demands of customers can be fulfilled in a timely basis. As Peacock hall will provide
luxurious facilities to their customers, it is essential for Barnacles to bring out required changes
so that competitive advantage over rival hotel can be attained. This will help the concerned hotel
in sustaining their customer base for a larger time period without facing any complexities (Alavi
and Gill, 2017).
Wholesale cultural change will incorporate different elements which were previously
missed by Barnacles while offering services to their clients. This cultural change will mainly
