INTRODUCTION
Change management is termed as one of the most systematic approach in order to deal
with transition or transformation of goals of organisation, process or technologies (Alvesson and
Sveningsson, 2015). The main aim of this change management is to implement the strategies for
controlling and also helping people in such way that they can adapt those modifications easily. In
the following report, the case study of Barnacle Bay Country House hotel has been taken into
consideration. This is basically located in Scottish coast in rural setting and remained family run
business for over 70 years.
Thus, in the following report, difficulties faced by the cited organisation in order to
implement change has been discussed. Further, change management theory has been explained
that leads in motivating employees to adopt change. In addition to this, leadership style and
business strategy has been discussed that has to be adopted for further improvements by Barnacle
hotel.

Culture change is that term which is used in public policy making that may emphasise the
influence of cultural capital on individual and also on behaviour of the community (Anderson,
2016). Further, it is also known as culture repositioning that basically means reconstruction.
Thus, culture of a particular organisation has been embedded deeply in system and becomes
much difficult to implement particular change. It becomes difficult because of culture of
organisation comprises of an interlocking set of goals, roles, processes, values, communications,
practices, attitudes and assumptions. Thus, there are various reasons that cause difficulty to
implement change speedily at Barnacles. This has been discussed as per below context-
Lack of Planning- Change in Barnacles is likely to fall apart or may cause number of
problems instead of benefits if it is not taken into consideration step by step. The cited
hotel therefore has to understand in deep manner exactly about what has to be changed
and how it can be done so that it may give high level success and benefits. In addition to
this, timeline for particular modification also plays extremely important role. Therefore, it
becomes essential for them to plan for downtime or for difficulties that might occur in
order to complete the regular tasks while any kind of change occurs in organisation.

Lack of consensus- The decision that is required to implement particular alteration must
be decided by top level of the particular organisation. Thus, all workers that are involved
in Barnacles Bay country house hotel are required to be on board and also be able to deal
with changes.

enterprises (Beech and MacIntosh, 2017). This is because they become comfortable with
the way they were working or performing in a particular task. Further, they become

also the expectations that they have to derive. This makes them work in efficient and
effective manner. Therefore, if this change may occur then the employees of Barnacles
hotel may disrupt their conservancy and some of them might also become upset. This
might also affect their confidence level to high extent as they will have to learn new
things and new ways in order to match the modifications. The cited organisation may
adopt training session for employees so that they may adapt such alterations that may
occur. Employee resistance can be reduce self interest and low tolerance of individual at
workplace.
Failing communication- Barnacles if fail to communicate with workers than it might
affect them by creating fear at hotel. If Barnacles Bay country house hotel desire to adopt
any kind of modifications than they will have to communicate in effective manner with
everyone that are involved with that particular organisation. Further, this is the basic right
of every worker to know each and ever news that may be positive or negative. So they
must try to keep them updated regularly with all policies and plans or decisions that are
made in context of hotel towards implementation of plan in terms of change. This will
lead them in making them feel that they are part of organisation and business and are
valued and respected. Ineffective communication can happen misinformation and
misunderstanding between employees, because workers are not shared info

Technical changes- It is necessary to change in technology according current trends in the
workplace. Changes in new procedure, methods and equipments are affected on culture

Strategical Changes- The strategical changes involve new job roles and responsibility
which can effect working criteria and culture of workplace. If human resource provide
higher level responsibilities to employees, so that it is difficult to adopt and fulfil this role
and responsibility to employee. Therefore, this change directly effects on performance of
workers at workplace.
Thus, it has been analysed that above discussed points are some of the reasons that may
cause difficulty for a particular hotel Barnacles Bay Country house hotel to implement change in
terms of wholesale refurbishment in organisation that includes new carpets, new furnishings,
new décor and also new indoor pool and gymnasium. In addition to this modern menu that
includes wine list. Therefore, to overcome these barriers they have to adopt change management
approach in organisation that will later lead them in achieving long term success and high level
sustainability. In addition to this, it will also help them in competing positively with Peacock hall
that is termed as the major competitor of Barnacles.
Barnacles take planned approach to change.
Change in organisation is termed as the process in order to change various strategies,
processes, procedures, technologies and culture of a particular organisation and also effect of
such changes on that business (Cameron and Green, 2015). Thus, barnacles have adopted change
management theory to overcome the obstacles or barriers that may cause difficulty towards
accepting change and also in making modifications smoothly. Therefore, Kotters eight step
change model has been adopted by them which has been discussed as per below context-

This model was introduced by John Kotter in order to improve the ability of an
organisation towards change and also in increasing chances towards achieving long term success.
Therefore, if barnacles hotel follows the step plan they may get opportunity in avoiding failures
in terms of implementing change (Kotter and Cohen, 2008). Due to this, Barnacles will no longer
have to adjust changes as they will increase their chance towards success. Thus, these eights

1. Crete a sense of urgency- this step is one of the most important step in terms of
modifications that has to be taken place in a particular hotel (Carnall, 2018). This step
states that Barnacles must create among all employees that are involved about needs and
urgency to implement change and it will require honest and convincing talk with them.
This talk will help them in convincing employees and make them know the importance of
taking this action. Therefore, it will be possible only if the cited organisation may
communicate with them about potential threats and also about possible solutions such as
transparency in communication, sharing ideas and opinions that may lead them in
overcoming those threats or barriers.
2. Create a guiding coalition- It is termed as one of the best idea that can be established in

some needs that has to be done by them which includes to identify that change which

done and later add them in existing coalition.
8. Anchor the changes- After barnacles hotel identifies the area where there is actual need of
change and also which will work then they have to anchor those changes which is the

Transformational Leadership: It is determined as leadership theory that reasons changes
in individual and societal systems. It makes valuable and positive change in the followers
with end goal of developing subordinates into leaders. It is approach where leader
performs with team to determine necessary changes, making vision to guide through
inspiration.
Democratic leadership style- this is one of the most effective style in terms of leadership.
In this style, every member that are involved are given with a particular role. This is also
known as participative style of leadership (Palmer, Dunford and Akin, 2016). Thus, every
members gets responsibility ort chance of sharing their views or ideas related to
particular situation. The main aim of this is to focus on equality of group and flow of
ideas. If this style is adopted by Barnacles than it will lead them in motivating workers

Business strategy is defined as high level plan of a particular firm in to reach business
objectives or goals that has been targeted by them (Hickman and Silva, 2018). Thus, in business
this strategy related to change management describes specific ways in which particular enterprise
will address such things as changes in supply chain, requirements of inventory, scheduling or
project scope. Some business strategy that has to be adopted by them has been discussed as per
below context-
Propose incentives- incentives plays very essential role in motivating employees to a
large extent. Thus, cited hotel Barnacles must provide rewards to workers according to
their level of performance. This will lead them in feeling as valued and respected and will
in turn increase their effort level towards a particular task.
Appointing training manager- training and development manager and specialists conduct
and supervise such programs for workers. This leads in enhancing productivity and
quality of work. Thus, training leads in increasing staff morale and further build loyalty
to firm.
Thus, from the above styles of leadership that has been discussed, it can be determine that
Rita must adopt democratic leadership style (Olins, 2017). If it is adopted by them, it will lead
the wmployees to share their views and ideas regarding the change management and will in turn
help them in selecting the best one. The members will further get motivated to accept that change
and work accordingly.
In addition to this, business strategy that has to be adopted by Rita is that to appoint
training and development manager. This manager will give training session to employees
regarding modification that has to be taken place. This session will lead them in enhancing their
skill and talent and can therefore become more dedicated towards their work in Hotel. Thus, the
manager that is appointed will set some objectives and time period within which it has to be
solved or met. In addition to this, it will also assist the workers to focus on their expectations and
task and work in the same manner. This strategy wont damage morale of stagg and also their
level of engagement. Further, workers may become more responsive, flexible and professional in

its approach that will later lead Barnacles bay Country House Hotel to earn high level of
reputation and increase in competitive advantage as compared to Peacock Hall.

From the above report, it has been concluded that change management plays very
significant role in order to achieve long term success. Further, it has also been analysed that there
are number of difficulties that cited organisation may have to face in order to implement change.
Thus, Kotters eight step change management model may lead them in motivating employees in
