This report discusses the roles of managers and leaders in Tesla and Tesco, highlighting the importance of management and leadership in organizations. INTRODUCTION
Management is the art to manage people and to utilise resources in such manner so that
company’s goal can be obtained. Leadership is that process of leading workforce to enhance
their working efficiency. Leaders and managers are the key players in organisation, they work to
enhance company’s performance and retaining talent in business u it for longer duration. Present
study is based on Tesco,
Tesco is having 6,800 stores with 450,000 employees working in organization. Revenue
generated by firm are £63,911 million as of 2019 (TESCO COMPANY PROFILE, 2019). Both
company are different in nature yet have a strong place for themselves in market. Report would
be covering roles of leaders and management in Tesla and Tesco. It will explain perspective of
managers and leaders in two different companies.
MAIN BODY
Role of Management
In Tesla role of manager is very limited, and they are bound to follow them. Manager of
Tesla plays role of monitor, as management ensures that each business activities are being
performed in systematic manner so that company can accomplish its objectives. Managers
closely monitor each activity and monitor whether business process is giving the expected results
or not. If overall output is not up to the mark, then managers make necessary changes in process
so that enterprise can generate more revenues.
Managers of the Tesla plays the role of decision makers. They find new ideas and makes
necessary decision for the growth of business unit. They find out the issues that currently
company is facing and finds new ways through which such problems can be resolved and make
final decision to implement that strategies so that enterprise can meet its goal successfully.
(Bush, Bell and Middlewood, 2019). Skilled employees with creative and innovative ideas are
being taken in firm so that management can make better decisions for company. (Spurgeon,
Clark and Ham, 2017).
Human relation theory explains that management must develops relationship with
employees at workplace. If each person has strong bonding, then they support each other and
always contribute well in achieving the company’s goal. Management of Tesco plays the role of
relationship builder; they find out the situation of employees whether they are happy or not.

Managers conduct meetings with employees informally that develops trust among them and
build a friendly atmosphere which helps the Tesco in minimising conflicts at workplace.
Company is trying to create better relationship with customers, employees and suppliers of
company so that there is a better understanding and effective productivity in organization so that
objectives and goals can be met (Chen and Mason, 2018).
Managers of Tesco works as negotiator, many times conflicts take place in business. In
such condition management ensures that such kinds of issues do not affect working of business
and do not influence mind of other workers. Hence they conduct a meeting where management
negotiate with the involved persons to resolve that problem. This is the best way through which
managers of Tesco gain trust of other employees because they think that enterprise take care of
their problem and resolve it soon. Management must have right communication and relationship
with everyone so that they can make better decisions for organization and functioning of
business. Tesco works on feedback's they get from customers from time to time so that they can
make functioning of organization better. Tesco is improving quality of products all time so that
they can satisfy customers as much as possible (Klein, 2018).
Role of Leadership
Leaders are the person who has responsibility to lead group of people and maintain their
trust on business. leadership is essential for the success of business unit, leaders play the role of
strategy formulator as they formulate effective or winning strategies through which business can
gain success in market. Participative leadership styles states that leaders have to involve people
and have to take their suggestion so that innovative ideas can be generated, their involvement
raise trust of people and employees feel valued which make them motivated towards leaders and
company. Leaders of Tesla always involve workers and give them opportunity to share their
views. By this way they find new ideas which help them in making winning strategy for
development of Tesla. Leaders of Tesla are very motivated to get changes in company all time
(Rich, Singleton and Wadhwa, 2018).
Situational leadership explains that leaders have to understand the situation and they have
to be reactive according to particular situation. This helps them in handling different situation in
effective manner. Tesco’s leaders always ensure to react according to the particular condition in
business. leaders of Tesco play the role of innovator, as always have innovative ideas that may
help in enhancing company’s performance (Tesco Leadership, 2016). They are motivator in the

Tesco as they encourage team members so that they work hard in workload as well. (Madsen
and Scribner, 2017). Leaders of Tesco are very motivated and are good at motivating their team
as well so that objectives and aims can be met
Historical development
In 1800 the great man theory was in practice that stated that leaders and managers work
as inspiration figure as they give courage to workers so that they can work better. In early 1900
trait theory came into existence that explains that traits of leaders are essential for the success of
business unit (Historical changes in leadership development , 2019). Leaders always
work for development of employees. In 1950 behaviour leadership theory came into practice that
stated that leaders those who are confident and extraversion can communicate with employees
well and can make them positive towards the firm. In 1970 situational and contingency theory
was developed. Situational leadership explains the leaders have to understand situations and have
to react accordingly. Contingency theory stated that leaders are responsible to react properly in
company so that several conditions can be tackled properly.
CONCLUSION
From above report it can be concluded that management and leadership play a great role
in making organization function smoothly and effectively. There are roles and responsibilities
which are divided between leaders and managers of company so that they do not have too many
roles which they will not be able to handle. Manager and leaders have to make most in making
functioning of companies be better. This division can lead to reaching objectives and aims
quickly which will be very beneficial for firm. Employees turnover has reduced because for
division of work and focus is being given to staff as well individually which is making
employees be loyal to industry.
