INTRODUCTIONManagement of the business operations is very vital for an organization. It helps the firmto improve the quality of services and business activities that are been undertaken by a firm. Thesuitable management of business operations will help in good execution of enterprise operationsand will guide the organizational functions to a greater level. The leaders and managers at firmgives out a very vital role in the execution of operations and management of business operationsof the firm. For the current report, Marks and Spencer is selected which is a UK based retailenterprise.The report will cover the roles and responsibilities or functions of leaders and managerswith their implication in given context. Various theories and models of leadership are been takenin context with the details of their traits and behaviors. Besides this, different managerial; rolesand responsibilities and activities performed by them to achieve business objectives. Besidesthis, environmental factors impacting operational management and decision making by leadersand managers for organizational performance is presented.MAIN BODYTASK 1EssayThe leaders and managers plays a very deep role in managing the needs and demands ofan organisation and thus will lead the firm to undertake suitable measures within the organisationthat will improve the quality of services and thus, guides an organisation to lead a good growthof the selected retail enterprise. This will lead the firm to carry out their operations in muchsuitable manner. Both leaders and managers perform, their operations or functions art M&S inmuch effective way (White, 2016). For a retail enterprise like M&S, management of itsoperations plays a very deep and significant role in maintaining the operations of theorganisation. However, on the individual level, there is a difference between the roles of a leaderand functions of a manager which are required to be effectively managed at M&S in order toimprove the performance of selected retail enterprise. M&S will see through the propermanagement of business operations which will guide the firm to have a good functionality. The leadership and management goes hand in hand to maintain the overall functionalitywithin an organisation which will improve the quality of services of a firm. Management can betermed as the framework or structure that is followed within the firm to carry out the different1

operations and functions within an enterprise in much suitable way. It is the overall practice toget the job done at a work place. On the hand, leadership is the skill or quality to influencepeople or workers to perform their operations and motivate them to meet their operations andtargets with great efficiency.The major aim or role of different leaders and managers working at the selectedenterprise will help the firm to have a significant growth and handling the business operations fora firm. The difference between roles of managers and functions of leaders is on the basis ofdegree of authority or power allocated to them by company's management (Caniani and et.al.,2015). Some major difference between the roles of manager and functions of leaders are asfollows:While the role of a manager is to analyse conditions within a firm to develop suitablepolicies and decide appropriate work measures that can enhance the overall performance of firm,leader's function is to apply or implement these changes or policies within the organisation or atwork place. The decision making and providing is the core job of a manager to manageoperations within a business enterprise while the leaders see through the proper implementationand following of these rules and regulations. Other that this, the manager is operational onmanagement level and requires communicating with leaders at the work space to find out thecurrent situations prevailing at the floor (Zhang and et.al., 2015). On the other hand, leaders willprovide suitable direction, guidance and instruct the fellow employees to handle their strength,weaknesses and motivate them to work more effectively. The leaders and mangers are required to possess certain traits and behavioural qualitieswhich will improve their quality and thus will improve the suitable management of the businessactivities and thus, will lead the organisation to enhance the quality of services. The managermust have the traits like ability to direct people, execute the operations, must be able to managebusiness processes and operations, should be focused towards the aims or goals. Besides this,they must be calculative, motivating and disciplined in order to perform their roles at anorganisation like M&S with much efficiency. On the other hand, leaders too, must have certaintraits or qualities that will facilitate them to perform their functions at the work place. A leader atM&S is required to motivating, disciplined, well managed, honest and should possess goodcommunication skills which will help them to encourage their work force or followers to executeoperations and improve the functionality of the firm.2
