Introduction The management and operations in Marks and Spencer is an important factor in theorganisational setting. This particular assignment has been based on the operations and management theoriesthat help the managers and leaders of the company to fulfil their functions and enhanceperformances. Marks and Spencer is a retail company which is one of the biggest companies ofUnited Kingdom (marksandspencer.com 2017). It is the biggest retailer and the headquarters arein United Kingdom. Management and leadership styles of Marks and Spencer are quite versatileand it encompasses various stages of management systems within the organisation. Task 1P1 Differentiation between Managers and LeadersLeader ManagerDefinitionA leader is a person who is responsiblefor his or her team. Leaders are thereforeresponsible for setting important goalsand targets for the entire team and set anexample by leading the way. It is theleader’s responsibility to inspire othersto perform well. Manager is someone who manageswork and activities of the organisation.Manager drives work of others in orderto make operations of organisationefficient. The individual must haveclear knowledge of the area in whichthe person needs to manage. Roles Motivating employees and staffsof the organisation is one of thebiggest roles of global businessleaders. Building of morale is animportant function as an efficientmorale helps in effectiveoperations of employees. CharacteristicsA leader must have overseasexperience about conductingwork and activities oforganisation. Must have a very good selfawareness about the business(Bargau, 2015). As M&S is one of the largestretailing companies in the world,Leaders need to have deepinterest about cultural diversity.In dealing with lots of employeesand team members in M&S, aManagers must be culturallyversed and should be able toconnect with people fromdifferent backgrounds.Managers must possess positiveattitude towards businessactivities and actions of theorganisation.Managers in M&S should befocused and driven.
