INTRODUCTION
Equality in the organisation is crucial as it helps to promote the equality for the
opportunity among the employees while diversity refers to the differences that are present in the
nature of the employees their beliefs, culture, religion, languages etc. This concept of equality
and diversity has various advantages to the organisation as it helps them to use talent from
various backgrounds to achieve their goals and objectives (Araten-Bergman, 2016). Also the
equality helps the organisation to avoid various conflicts among the employees also it has
positive impact on the staff. In this report the organisation which is take into consideration is
Hilton, which is situated on Park Lane of London. The hotel is a five star hotel which offers
various services to the customers that helps them to satisfy the customers. But for an organisation
along with customers their employees are also crucial for which this report has been prepared.
The report includes the aims and objectives of the organisation for which a project plan is
prepared that covers various aspects. To conduct the research for the project the information is
gathered with the help of various research methods, tools and techniques that helps in analysis
which will help the organisation in decision making.
Overview of the company : Hilton Hotel is situation on the Park Lane of London, which
has a large capacity as they have 28 storeys and 453 rooms. They belongs to the hospitality
industry where they offers various services to customers which can be personalised, or the
general services of the hotel. The focus of the company is on their employees which helps them
to take competitive advantages. For which this research in undertaken in which the importance
of the diversity and the equality at the workplace is considered.
LO 1
Aims and objectives of the project
Project is a series of activities that are to be done so that desired outcomes are achieved.
These activities are performed for a set period of time, within the stipulated budget and other
limitations. Project management on the other hand involves planning and organising company
resources by application of processes, methods, skills and knowledge so that the goals of project
can be achieved.
Title : To determine the strategies/initiatives which will help in building diversity and equality at
workplace.

Aim of the report : The aim of the project is to identify and analyse various strategies and
initiatives which can facilitate in building a inclusive and diverse workforce which can give
competitive advantage to the company. A study on the Hilton London.
Objectives of the report : The objectives of the report are :
 To develop a understanding of the concept of equality and the diversity in the
organisation.
 To understand the influence of diversity on the performance of the employees of Hilton.
 To identify the challenges faced by the company due to equality and diversity in the

Project management plan that covers various aspects
A project management plan is a document which helps to defines various phases of the
projects. It includes various components such as initiation, planning, controlling, execution and
monitoring (Ashe and Nazroo, 2017). This plan provides the structure which helps to determine
the outcomes of the project, how such outcomes can be achieved, who all will be involved in the
projects and various such related factors. The project plan so prepared need to be effective for
which various aspects need to be considered such as cost, scope, time, communication etc. The
project plan for Hilton is given below:
 Scope: This project will help in developing equality at the workplace where all the
employees can work efficiently in a diverse environment. It will also help in increasing
the efficiency of workers so by establishing equal and fair opportunities for its employees
so that employees belonging to diverse culture, religion, beliefs etc. can cooperate and
coordinate their work so that the goals and objectives of the organisation can be achieved.

The project will not include solving the conflicts among workers. The necessity of the
project is to integrate the work of all the employees so that competitive advantage can be
gained in the market (Bain, 2017).
 Organisational structure: Organisations can follow functional structure where the
employees are grouped in teams based on their special and similar set of skills and talents
so that team goals can be achieved. Pure structure is where project managers have total
control over the project. Matrix structure where the employees need to report to more
than one manager due to presence of a grid structure. Hilton Hotel follows functional
structure so that the objectives of the project can be effectively achieved.
 Resources: Under this aspect the requirement of land, labour, human resources, capital
etc. are ascertained so that the project can be completed in an efficient manner. The
researcher needs to analyse the resources such as experts team, leadership skills etc. so
that the project can be conducted and completed in the desired manner. Also the origin of
these resources are to be identified so that the cost of their acquisition can be determined
(Davis, Frolova and Callahan, 2016). The resources which will be used by the company
are human resource, finance and various equipment which they will procure from their
organisation while some of the resources such as equipment will be taken outside the
organisation. The resources which are used by the researcher includes his team and data
which he will gather from various sources.

that cash can be managed. Cost breakdown structure under which helps in breaking the
costs at various levels of the work breakdown structure. The cost required for conducting
research and conducting many seminars with the help of experts so that the employees
can be assured that the implementation of diversity and workplace will be beneficial for

 Communication matrix : This is an important aspect which will help in integrating the

directors via mails, video conferencing etc. The team leaders will communicate with team
members by giving them instructions either face-to-face or via mails. This

 Risks : The potential risks related with the project are developing a correct project
management plan and also in maintaining better relations with the team members. Also
the resistance of the employees to implement new change in the organisation possess a
potential risk. Lack of cash and time for conducting the research in an appropriate
manner can also be a risk factor which can be managed by utilizing the resources
optimally so that project can be completed in the set deadlines. So the risk which will
faced by the company will be implementation risk which is related to the project while
the risk which is faced by the researcher will be technical risks as they will be gathering
the data and analysing it.
 Quality : Quality of the project needs to be maintained by collecting the information
from reliable data in relation to the topic so that the results produced from the project can
help in achieving the desirable outcomes. There are various control techniques such as
Control chart which is a graph that is used to study how a process changes over time so
that it can be determined if the processes of project are in the state of control (Fujimoto
and EJ Härtel, 2017). Quality control chart this helps in determining if the processes are
meeting their intended specifications or not and also to determine the degree to which
they vary by the way of graphs. The most appropriate method is the quality control chart
so that the quality of each stage of the project can be checked and the necessary
improvements can be made which will help in achieving desired outcomes. The quality of
the information so gather by the researcher is important as the entire project is dependent
upon such information. So for the researcher the control chart techniques is useful as it
will help to analyse the changes in the process frequently.
 Time : In order to conduct the research successfully the time that will be required is 7
weeks so that proper planning and integration of all the activities can be done (Hawkins,
2017).
Project management process helps in managing and controlling all the activities of a
project from its initiation to its completion which helps in gaining the desired results of the
project. This process is important so that all the project activities are well aligned and organised
which will help in achieving the company goals and objectives on time and within the
ascertained budget. The process of planning can be done faster by using WBS and Gantt charts
which can help in planning the project based on work and on time respectively so that project

gets completed in a planned manner. The implementation of project can be accelerated by using
project management office (PMO) so that pragmatic set of tools can be used which can help in
management of the project in an efficient manner. More stakeholders can be attracted towards
the project by influencing them by giving them higher rate of return on their investment and also
telling them about the advantages of the project which will help in influencing them. The project
can be completed at low cost by efficiently utilizing the available resources and decreasing
wastage of resources which will help in completing the project in a cost effective manner. The
project can be made easily understandable to all the members by training and development
programmes so that all the team members can be encouraged to understand about the project.
Work breakdown structure and a Gantt Chart
Work breakdown structure is a systematic approach which helps the organisation to undertake
various project in the organisation. It is a project deliverable that helps the organisation to divide
the work into manageable sections. The work which is to be done is arranged into hierarchical
structure and accordingly allocated to the teams who are responsible to undertake the respective
job (Hebl and Avery, 2012). It helps to define the projects into manageable chunks which will
help them to get work done without any delay. For this research, it will help the researcher to
divide the project into smaller tasks and get them completed on time.
Gantt Chart is a type of chart in which all the activities are listed with the time limit in which
they have to be completed. It has two axis, on vertical axis the tasks and the activities are taken
and on the horizontal axis the timings are considered in which they have to be completed. The

researcher will identify all the activities which they have to undertake to conduct the research
along with the time interval. This will help them to complete the activities in time limit. Also the
redundancy of the activities can be avoided as the list is already prepared for them. This will
reduces the chances of the confusion as the sequence will be identified in which the activities are
to be performed (Hewins-Maroney and Williams, 2013).

Research methodology refers to the that process which is using for collecting the date or
information in order to make effective decision related to operate the project activities. In other
words, it contains various techniques or tools within which helps the researcher in collecting,
grouping and examining data or information in terms to maintain the authenticity of project
(Iganski and Mason, 2018). Mainly, research methodology is considered by researcher to check a
specific theory and its application according to the set standards so that the best can be selected.
For gathering the information a researcher can use various research methods which are
describing below:
Qualitative research: This is also known as exploratory research as it allows the
researcher to collect the more accurate and in-depth information which helps them in performing
their functions more appropriately. Here, the researcher has considered some of the respondents

to collect the qualitative information. But it is more time taking approach in comparing to
quantitative research due which researcher have to face issues also. For collecting the qualitative
data researcher can use various methods which are defining below:
Interviewing: It is an effective method in which a researcher will ask various questions
from various respondents about their opinion, experience, thoughts and feelings towards the
organisation services. The main advantage of this is allows the investigator to collect more fresh
and primary information but it is more time consuming method while the disadvantage is that it
makes the process lengthy (EJammaers, Zanoni and Hardonk, 2016). Other advantages of using
interview method is that through interview actual views of the sample population can be
collected by face-to-face interaction. This also helps in knowing about their actual view points
which are not adulterated by someone else's influence. However some disadvantages of this
method are the interview process is expensive and time-consuming as all the respondents are to
be personally interviewed so as to gain accurate information. Also it is difficult to persuade
people to take part in interviews as they have to give their time so as to answer the questions.
Ethnographic approach: In this research method, researcher work on the basis of
observation of the society and related their collected information to their real life environment.
The main advantage of this is allows the researcher to know both emotional and practical
behaviour of a person. Its lot of depend on the researcher's observation and interpretations.
In regard to this research, researcher will use the interviewing method as it will help them
in collecting the more deep information or data about each individuals which allows them to
operate all their activities significantly.
Quantitative research: In this method, researcher using statistical method like graphs,
chart and other numerical systems. Scope of quantitative research is higher as it consider various
respondents to collect more relevant and accurate data. This approach collects the information
through its potential customers with the help of sampling method and also can use online
surveys, interview and questionnaire method (Kulkarni and Gopakumar, 2014).
Questionnaire method: It is refers to the set of standardized questions which is made by
researcher to collect the information from various individuals about one or more specific topics.
The main benefit of this approach is, it allows researcher to change their question as per
perception and personality of a answerer. The disadvantage is that sometimes most of the
respondents does not take interest in answering the questions. The advantages of this method is

that specific answers can be achieved by the respondents by framing questions and answers
which give clarity about the views of the respondents. The disadvantages are that the process is
lengthy and there is a wastage of a lot of time and pen and paper so that the response can be
collected. Also the responses are to manually calculated so that correct interpretations can be
drawn which helps in giving good recommendations to the company.
Structured observations: In this, investigator focus on collecting the data without direct
involving the participants but they have collected the data on their assumptions. This is less time
consuming methods but on the other hand it may lack quality and in depth information (Phillips
and et. al., 2016)(Popova, 2018).
The methods of quantitative data are:
 Average method: In this method of the data collection the responses are collected and
their average are taken into consideration for interpretation.
 Frequency method: In this method frequency are allotted to the responses and
accordingly the interpretation is done.
The company has been using frequency method for analysing the responses of the respondents.
In this project, researcher will use the questionnaire method as it will enables them in
gathering more accurate and relevant information about each individual which will increase the
chances of their succession in the marketplace.

Analysis of research and data using tools and techniques
Constant comparison: It is the data analysis process in which comparison between
existing findings is done with the interpretation drawn by the researcher. It helps in comparing
the qualitative data so that correct interpretations can be drawn. The advantages of using this
method is that it helps in deriving correct information from the comparison which can be used to
make better recommendations to the company. However the disadvantages are that it is a tiring
process and also requires high level of analytical skills so that correct interpretations can be
drawn.

Frequency: It is the number of occurrences of an event which can help in determining
the events which frequently occurs. The advantage of frequency constant is that it is easy to
analyse and helps in estimating realistic information. The disadvantage is that constant
frequencies do not exist which means they are unrealistic to be applied in actual practice.

A. On the basis of the responses of the managers it is identified that with the introduction of the
equality and diversity in the innovation in the organisation is promoted and it develops the spirit

basis of some responses it was identified that it creates an issue of communication gap as the
language sometimes becomes the barrier.

A. As per the responses of the managers it is identifies that the equality at the workplace
motivates the employees because all are treated as equal and fair. They trainings and
development sessions are conducted for the employees which helps them to understand each
other. This will help them to have effective communication in the organisation and thus
contributes in improvement of the performances.

workplace?
A. According to the mangers of the Hilton the equality can implement by treating all the
employees equal without any discrimination among them. This can be done by analysing the
capabilities of the employees efficiently which will make the organisation to allocate work on the
basis of their capability. While some employees believes that it can be effectively implemented
with the active participation of the employees in decision making, with the help of reward
system, training and development etc.
Appropriate recommendations for data analysis
From the above report it can be seen that diversity and equality at workplace helps the
organisation in gaining a competitive advantage in the market as the work of all the employees
can be integrated and coordinated efficiently so that better results are achieved. In the hospitality
industry customer satisfaction plays an important role in the success of the business which can be
achieved when all the employees are able to deal with customer requirements effectively. At
Hilton Hotel it is important that all the employees are given equal opportunities to use their
potential irrespective of their caste, religion, values or beliefs. This will help in integrating all the
employees and enhancing their efficiency to perform so that the profitability of the Hotel can be
increased.
Recommendations regarding improvement in its race, sexuality and gender related
diversity :
 By offering equal pay for equal work can help in improving this diversity. This will help
in reducing the payment gap due to diverse workforce and the employees will be paid
based on their capabilities and not on other parameters.
 By applying family friendly policies to all the employees irrespective of their race and
gender. This will make the employees more satisfied with their jobs as they can maintain
work-life balance.

 Various opportunities must be must be created for all the employees which will make
them fell equal.
Recommendations regarding improvement in age, pregnancy and nationality-
related diversity :
 By giving promotions to employees based on their talents and skills and not based on
their age or nationality.
 By giving pregnant staff members maternity leaves irrespective of their age or
nationality.
 Special care must be provided to the women employees which will motivate them to
work.
Recommendations regarding improvement in disability, marriage and religion-
related diversity :
 By making the recruitment and selection fair and giving equal chances to all the
candidates.
 By developing a work culture that is friendly to all the employees so that all can feel a
part of the organisation.
 To meet up with various issues all the regulatory requirement must be complied with.
Therefore, it can be concluded that diversity and equality at workplace can be easily
implemented in the Hotel by adopting simple measures which can integrate all the employees so
that their efficiency to perform their roles and responsibilities can be improved. This will help
the employees in being satisfied by the fair and equal treatment given to them and the employee
turnover will decrease which will give the company a competitive advantage.
LO 4
Reflection
After completing the research I feel more enlightened about the importance of equality
and diversity at workplace and how can they help the organisations in gaining a competitive
advantage in the market. Through this project the companies can be benefited as they can apply
various strategies and initiatives to increase their workforce diversity and inclusivity. This
research will help in achieving the goals of the project which will enhance the productivity of the
workers and also help in integrating the activities of the workers efficiently so that the company

goals and objectives can be achieved. I think it was worthwhile to spend time, money and other
resources in the project as it will help in making the workplace friendly for the workers and the
employee retention rate of the company can be increased. This will reduce the cost of the
company to train and develop their employees.
I have enhanced my knowledge and learning on the project topic which will help in
gaining future chances to conduct similar researches. For selecting the topics I made decision by
asking my tutors so that the appropriate topic can be selected. I used my logical and technical
skills so that appropriate decisions can be made. I made changes in the project scope and
objectives so that the scope of the project can be broadened. Also I made changes in the
resources so they can be appropriately allocated in achieving the project goals and risks related
to these can be reduced. I followed various techniques of project management and applied them
to each step of the project so that quality of the project can be enhanced and desired results can
be achieved. I dealt with the difficulties like shortage of time and resources which I efficaciously
managed by using my managerial skills. The outcomes were achieved as per plan and were
satisfactory as the managers of the company were happy with my research findings and the
employees were motivated to implement the diversity and equality in the workplace. A better
understanding was developed among the employees and they were ready to cooperate during the
complete project.
During the complete project I used various logical decisions while finding interpretations
of the data collected so that correct recommendations can be given to the company which can
help in increasing their efficiency. Also I had to follow step-by-step decision-making so that an
appropriate sequence of carrying out a project can be formed so that all the objectives of the
project can be gained. I expanded the scope of the project so that the application of inclusiveness
and diverseness in the company can be efficiently applied which can help in forming a good
working environment in the company. The resources which I needed were increased so that
authenticity and reliability of the data collected can be increased however I tried to reduce the
costs so that overall company costs do not get increased. I had to make these changes so that the
results that are achieved can be applicable to a wide range of company problems which can help
it in gaining satisfactory results so that it can gain a competitive edge in the market. The stages
of the project were planned in such a manner that they were easy to be followed. I tried to follow
each and every step of the project so that the quality of work could be enhanced which will help

in gaining satisfactory results for the company. Time was limited which was a difficulty that I
faced but by using Gantt Chart I was able to finish the project on time. These tools also helped in
enhancing the quality of the project so that efficient results can be drawn which can be applied
in the company. The outcomes that were planned were achieved to a great extent and the
managers were satisfied by my work. They also implemented various suggestions that I gave
them so that the inclusiveness of the diverse workforce can be increased which will also increase
their harmony to coordinate and cooperate with each other. This will increase their performance
and productivity so that the company goals can be efficiently achieved on time.
CONCLUSION
It is concluded from the above report that to gain the competitive advantage the
organisation has to focus on the employees by implementing equality. Various strategies are
recommended to the organisation which will help them to introduce diversity and equality such
as they need to focus on the equal gender pay, proper training and active participation etc. These

The project accomplish over an interesting topic i.e. To identify the impact of equality and
diversity on employees performance of an organisation within a workplace”. A study on Hilton
Hotel.

Yes, the project succeed in its aims which is known by me by using certain instruments
which are questionnaire, qualitative and quantitative research etc.

I was able to easily collect data or information from the public due to my
