INTRODUCTION
Management and operation is one of the best area for management which is mainly
concerned for designing addition to controlling the overall aspects of production of product and
services. Along with this, this term is responsible for business operations. On the basis of this
there are different resources of business in which managers of firm always meet customers. By
having this kind of process like planning, directing, controlling to fulfil consumer's requirements.
Therefore, it is the best pattern of developing higher possibilities of efficiencies in an
organisation (Boyd and Dougherty, 2016). For better gaining knowledge of this topic “CORUS”
is selected that is considered as organisation which is the part of Tata Steel Group. It is the
world's sixth largest organisation which deals in steel products in a perfect manner. Further
discussion of this report will be based on difference between leaders and managers in respective
organisation. Along with roles with functions of a leader and manager with various theories and
situational leadership approach and contingency. Business objectives and importance of business
operations. Lastly, few factors pertaining with business environment influencing decision of
manager and leader will be discussed.
TASK 1
P1 Roles with characteristics with manager and a leader.
In the present context of business competition rapidly growing in which manager of firms
are applying different concept to achieve targeted goals. Therefore, the managers and leaders
play very essential role in company who achieve organisational goals properly. In context of
CORUS there are different roles and aspects of leader and a manager. Those are given below:
Manager: It is also known as an individual who always play their effective roles and
responsibilities to conduct different kinds of research in order to improve employees’ skills.
That's why manager is one of the necessary part of company who manage difficulties. According
to CORUS, manager always take care of employees benefits and give them important task to
achieve desired goals among the organisation (Ellitan, 2017).
According to Encarta, manager is responsible to controlling and directing overall work
and business staff within the specific department.
According to Ellitan, manager in an individual who is in charge of different team or
group members along with subet of an organisation.

Roles of a manager:
Daily operations: This is the initial roles of a manager in which he ensures about
business functions and total number of employees.
Motivator: Manager is on of the best motivator who always develop effective culture or
environment within the working place in a perfect way.
Characteristics of a manager:
Manager always reliable in nature and he is also good communicator who mainly
influence other people within the organisation in a positive way.
Leader: It is a person who influence different people in an organisation to achieve
organisations goals. Along with he is capable to perform well in company by which he can
support their team members perfectly (Eraki, 2015). As per the CORUS, leaders are very good
who always focus on their work by having good speaking and communication skills. On the
basis of this leaders are the attractive part of an organisation.
According to Peter Drucker, leader is a people who has lots of followers in a different
manner.
According John C. Maxwell, leadership always impact on people by which they can
manager their work and able to attain appropriate goals.
Roles of a leader:
Goal oriented: As per this, team leaders are always able to achieve their appropriate
objectives and make proper plan so that employees can follow their policies and support leaders.
Always role as a guide, supporter: Leader mainly share thoughts, ideas and feelings
with their employees. Along with always conduct different kinds of programmes in workplace by
which they can learn various things in an organisation.
Representative of the company: Leaders are the only one who represent overall factors
of an organisation so that they can easily manage their functions. Therefore, it influences other
people and make proper organisation (Fan, Liu and Zhang, 2015).
Characteristics of a leader:
Ability to delegate: As per this leader has characteristics to assign work or task to
employees for achieving appropriate goals and objectives.
