Organisational behaviour is a study of human behaviour, the way a person interact
individually and within a group in the organisation. Organisation behaviour can be understand at
three level i.e. how individual behave in organisation, work group and behaviour of organisation
itself (Alavosius and et. al., 2016). In current time companies are putting more focus on this as it
has become important part in bringing efficiency in organisation. The main objective of the
implementation of these theories in the working environment is to maximize the profit and
outcome of each individual that is working in firm. Studying the behaviour of an individual help
in identifying whether the person will be able to adjust in the new environment present to them.
The success of organisation depend on the way they manage their human resource.
Organisational plays important part in this management. In current report Hilton hotel is taken
into consideration. Its one of the biggest hotel in the united state. Its a private limited establish
globally. The company has more than 570 hotels and resorts in 85 different countries. Their
territories are spread over more than 6 continents all over the world. The case study will provide
you the importance of organisational behaviour in a firm and different way through which Hilton
hotel use this theory for their efficient working. The impact of culture, power and politics are
discussed in detail. Different motivational approaches and there role in team building are also
mentioned. It also provides information on the team dynamic and different group and their role
in organisation. Philosophies and concept of organisational behaviour are also there. The report
will also focus on the factor which helps in manner to improve the team work in organisation. In

size. All organisational activities have negative and positive impact on the growth of business
enterprise. Politics refer to have power which work as to direct impact on the overall culture of
workplace which helps in manner to encourages the productivity. It is very helpful in manner to
enhance the image of company. The hotel Hilton is taking various effective steps in order to
expand the activities of firm by managing team performance of employees.
These can be defined in following manner are as-
Positive types of power- This is very helpful in relation to enhance the firm profitability and
productivity in wide manner. This kind of positive influence help with regard to power to make
decision and distribution of reward to employees for their strong performance. To make this

Positive workplace politics- in order to have encouragement in the productivity the organisation
should take effective steps in relation to development in the political culture of employees in
order to have good working culture in business enterprise. They should take effective
establishment of clear policies and chains of command that will be easier to worker of the firm to

P4 Concepts and philosophies of organizational behaviour
Organizational behaviour (OB) can be defined as study of human behaviour those who
work in the organization. OB is the basic concept which revolve around the people those who
perform tin the workplace and their nature. Perception, culture of each individual is different , it
creates problem for the management to handle all the persons equally. In such condition it is the
responsibility of managers that to understand their behaviour and develop such workplace
environment where all employees can feel comfortable and can perform their duties well
(Alavosius and et. al., 2016)..
Philosophy of organizational behaviour can be defined as set of assumptions and belief of
managers to deal with workers. There are various philosophies of OB. These are such as
custodial, autocratic, supportive, collegial and system. Autocratic model of OB can be defined as
the philosophy of management in which power of decision making is in the hand of higher
authorities. Workers have to perform their duties as per the instruction of managers (Barrick,
Mount and Li).
Custodial model is another philosophy which is depended upon the orientation of money.
Managers focus on team work and provide security and monitory benefits to all workers so that
they perform their duties well. Employees need to behave responsible and self discipline manner.
But in this model employees do not get motivation to improve their performance.
Supportive model is another type of philosophy which pays attention on supportive
orientation. Managers focus on improving performance of employees thus, they give them all
their support through which management can get recognition and can enhance their performance
to great extent. It is more effective and useful and can help in making people loyal towards the
brand. Collegial philosophy of OB is extensive of supportive model (Barrick, Mount and Li).
This philosophy work to fulfil common purpose. Managers share the main agenda of the work
and all the employees put their hard efforts so that this common gaol can be accomplished. It is
depended upon team working. In this model management of the organization develops a feeling
of partnership among all the workers those who perform in the workplace. Joint contribution of
management and employees help in meeting with the objective of the organization (Alavosius

extent. Hilton hotel currently takes support of Custodial philosophy. Through there is situation
where people are unable to develop their skills because management of the cited firm do not
guide them. Mangers support them but do not motivate them to raise their performance. Poor
monitory and non monitory benefits demotivate them. It needs to adopt supportive philosophy in
the business situation where employees are demotivated. Workers always need recognition and
financial benefits. If managers provide them these things then this will raise their confidence and
they will be able to perform well.

their behaviour as well. If company adopts autocratic philosophy then it may create burden and

attention on orientation of money. It meets the security needs of workers thus people gets
positive towards the brand but on the same time such type of philosophy have some symptoms of
autocracy. Employees can not talk directly to their boss which makes them irritating and they
become nagative towards the organization. Supportive model helps in encouraging team
performance and helps in increasing their performance by motivating them. On other hand it is
not good because people can behave informal which is not good for the corporation.

role in bringing efficiency in the working of overall organisation. Culture, power and politics are
