INTRODUCTION
In health and social care direct interactions with clients and patients are needs. Therefore,
the first impressions made by an individual on the client by their behaviour, have a huge impact
over success of their work as-well-as organization (Tolson and et.al., 2011). Personal values and
principles are key elements of personal; development which an individual acquires at a young
age and carry it further to old age. Variety of attitudes and beliefs are viewed under personal
values which indicate the true behaviour of individual. All these values help to build up
professionalism or career in other words. Furthermore, the identity of an individual in future
career is greatly determined by experiences. The report lays emphasis upon various personal and
professional relationships within the health and care sector. Also, light has been thrown on the
understandings of individual of how to give contribution in work, as a team in health and social
care sector.
TASK 1
1.1 Comparing personal values and principle with those of support for working in health and
social care
In the field of health and social care as an individual my performance at work will be
influenced to a great extent by personal ethics and principles possessed within me. A health and
social care occupation involves interactions and communication with various sorts of persons.
This makes it a necessity for employees to become ethical and responsive. Such values are a
result of an individual's beliefs and preferences, culture, perspective of politics, priorities &
interests. So my interaction with patients, clients will be affected through these values in health
and social care sector. While working at Barn Croft Primary school, I had to deal with different
types and also groups of children and to make them understand my communication skills were
an asset. Because of my effective skills of communication via organization of various classroom
activities I was successful in improving their reading, writing and numeracy skills. So while
working as an individual in health and social care organization I have to interact with people
from diverse settings. So the primary school experience would be beneficial for me. These
diversified people could be sometimes aggressive also which might trigger the behaviour of
individual. But the role of personal values possessed by an individual comes into action in this
case (Bennett, 2010). Despite aggressive behaviour from the clients or patient's side as an
individual I should stay calm and handle them accordingly. Uneven and inadequate care are

delivered because one fails to understand the significance of principles of health and care
principles with respect. Henceforth, my responsiveness will play a key role in developing mine
social expertise along with personality. Individuals working in this sector need to develop their
personal values because these are a key indicator of his/her behaviour towards the patients and
clients at work. This will as a whole help a health and care social care organization to achieve
success by satisfying their clients and patients.
1.2 Influence of personal culture and experience in health and care sector
Culture of an individual arrives from his/her family. My ethics are an outcome of family
culture of mine. Bonding with family affects his/her cultural aspects. Also, the education of an
individual helps him/her to clear the queries of clients and patients because it plays an important
role in gaining experience. I have a range of experiences in relation with health and social care
since I have dealt with diversified children and young adults while working at Area 51
Education, Gainsborough & Barn Croft Primary School. Education helps him/her to get
employment in health and social care sector. Also, experiences from events that occur in an
individual's life also impact his/her behaviour in organization. During growth of an organization
building of individual viewpoints can be done which lead to development of values and
principles. Modification and alteration can be done to principles according to requirements. And
as a result new values come up each time. I should give equal importance to the beliefs of other
individuals (Tosone, Nuttman and Stephens, 2012). No one should be forcefully imposed with
values of others. At work I have to deal with diversified people from different cultures. This
should not be a problem for me. I should treat every patient though of different culture, with
care. This creates a good impression in their minds and they become grateful for the services
given to them. Every individual such as nurses, should understand the importance of holding
work ethics in social care giving. All the staff should carry forward their work with the same
spirit. The outcome of such a spirit is that individuals are able to deliver maximum care to
patients and enhance their achievements.
1.3 Affect of development and changes to personal values in health and care
Individual's life has to undergo through various changes. Similar changes occur in case of
personal values (Englander and et.al., 2013). These include differences in opinions, values and
attitudes and have a direct impact over quality care of patient in both negative and positive way.
Tricky part comes into play when we have to keep the conflicts aside and work in satisfactory

all priority to patient. Therefore, every health care employee has to become a skilled individual
in accordance with techniques of communication. This provides assistance in the process of
socialising with people and also assist in handling the disputes.
Three different categories of values that will help me as health/care practitioner in
keeping accordance with life which are on cultural, universal and personal basis. In order to
avoid conflicts I need to have personal values that are harmonic to universal ones. Hence, as a
result change in any one of the values will affect directly on the way of delivering health/social
care by me. Beforehand assessment of the development of new values should be done to get a
brief of what has to be altered or developed (Patchin and Hinduja, 2010).
Personal development has direct impact over an individual's professional ethics.
Therefore, I should take part in various growth activities and training programs that a
health/social care organization conducts. This will allow them to make their own personal
assessments and monitor themselves occasionally.
TASK 2
2.1 Assessment of current skills, abilities and learning style
In order to care of the patients in more effective manner, I should deliver quality services
which is outcome of my enhanced skills. One must have right level of numeracy, literacy and
also communication skills.
Care plans need contribution by me such as data recording, form filling etc.
I should support others in monitoring their weight such as keeping an overall progress
report about weight loss.
Record a patient's temperature, blood pressure regularly and report if any concerns are
found out.
As a health/care practitioner of an organization, I should regularly enhance my skills to
broaden abilities. I should always try to work outside limits while giving care to patients. If I will
perform well, then this will bring out my hidden talents and improve my working abilities and
efficiency. At Barn Croft Primary school with help of my enhanced skills I was successful in
improving the performance of students and was highly respected by them. This enhanced skills
and abilities will help me in delivering quality services to patients.

Every individual prefers different ways of learning methods. Because learning plays a
key role in enhancing one's abilities and skills to work. And with learning comes experience. So
many formal and informal activities can be carried out approach effective learning. In health and
care I can follow basically three approaches of learning: Structured: work is done experienced worker or by formal e-learning methods (Skovholt
and Trotter, 2014). Active:Gives opportunities for exploring new areas by reading, writing, discussing,
listening and reflecting of information being presented.
Reflection: experience from past help in development of one's skills and as result a better
understanding of an individual's abilities.
2.2 Holistic development plan with short-term and long-term goals
The process self-actualization and learning to combine an individual's physical, mental,
social and spiritual growth is considered as holistic development. For this purpose Personal
Development Plan comes into action. It basically consists of following steps :
With reference to health and care knowledge could be gathered from experienced
workers and also solving the queries of clients and patients will be helpful in enhancing it
(Doel and et.al., 2010).
Based on the knowledge that has been gathered, reflecting actions should be taken. This
will be an aid in self-learning and thus help in gaining more achievements. More number
of achievements will help in enhancing experience of individual.
Achievement and analysation of achievements should be done within the time duration
that has been specified.
PDP in case of health and care will help an individual to analyse the patient accordingly make
plans for taking care.
Short-term goals are based on organization's current activities which need to be
completed in the specific time frame (Skovholt and Trotter, 2014). Long term goals require more
motivation and are set with reference to organization's future developments. Short-term goals
have a time limit of few months. Suppose based on the current situation health and care
organization wants to open pop-up centres in villages nearby that will be providing free diabetes

check up. This might be tough because rural people rather than preferring doctors, prefer their
superstitious methods which is a challenge.
Long term goal includes such opening of another branch in a village area nearby. This
will provide motivation in a way, that people staying in village should not travel to cities for their
health problems that too at an affordable price. Such goal achievement will enhance the
credibility, success and efficiency of an organization.
2.3 Monitoring progress as per the plan
Monitoring can be done with the help of outcomes that we get as per the development
plan. When goals are being set according to the organization's status and requirements of people
then monitoring of that plan has to be done in order to get an idea about its effectiveness. When
proper monitoring is done, an overall progress overview is obtained which allows the
organization to make any further changes in the development plan. During implementation of a
development plan there might be a possibility of occurrence of some barriers which might affect
the performance of members of the organization. So regular monitoring needs to be done
(Drummond and et.al., 2015).
In the above development plan organization's short term goal was to set up pop up centres
in the nearby village in order to provide free diabetes check up for three months. This might be
crucial because village people are a bit superstitious in such health matters. So campaigns must
be carried out. During this task monitoring should be done by me being a health/care practitioner
about how many people are being treated every day, what type of health issue they are facing and
various other things. If I am able to successfully monitor it, then it would be easy to include any
changes during course of action of plan (Blue and et.al., 2010).
As per the long term goal that is setting a new branch in village, proper measure need to
be taken after launching of that branch. Services should be provided at a price that is affordable
by villagers, in order to achieve success. And for this monitoring of all the services that are
included as per the strategies, should be effectively done. If any sort of fraud is observed strict
actions should further be taken because one cannot take risk with another person's health.
2.4 Evaluation of the development plan
As a health and care practitioner of organization the evaluation of the short-term as well
as long-term goals after monitoring them is of utter importance. While working as Economic
inspector and translator in European Department at Arges Country Council, Romania, I had to

deal with delegates from all around Europe. I have assisted them in development plans of various
projects. So evaluating a development plan is also my asset. The development plan will provide
the organization to evaluate effectiveness of the goals that it has set.
The short term goal of setting up of pop up centres was not so effective. First of all
people who came for check up and even found out that they were suffering, no careful methods
as prescribed by doctor are taken. Their superstitious beliefs proved to be quite a challenge.
Though campaigns related to diabetes awareness were organised, some people always proved to
be barrier for their success. Although, no negative responses were observed, still it was not that
much effective according to plan set.
Now coming towards long term goal which was to open a new branch of organization in
nearby village, it proved to be very much effective. When I carried out the evaluation after 2
years of its successful running, then the main cause of success was found out to be affordable
price of services offered. The people in village were attracted towards the high tech services that
too at an affordable price They did not have to go the city for their health issues (Mockford and
et.al., 2012). This goal was successfully achieved and proved to be an asset for the organization.
TASK 3
3.1 Nature of different types of professional relationships in health and social care context
Professional relationship is the method by which the staff of organization makes
relationships with other individuals, service user's friends and family, another agency's workers,
colleagues or any person in relation to health and social care. When I was a sales assistant in
fashion shop at Romania, I have to assist many clients in making their choices along with
working as team member. So in relation to health and care this experience would prove to be
quite beneficial for me. Some particular principles in accordance with the organization are being
focussed. The various natures of professional relationship have been discussed below: Relationship with service users: As an individual all the service users should be given
respect. The service users that have no mental issues could choose any of the service as
per their choice. Clients should be provided appropriate care without any hassle by the
service providers. In addition to it health care professionals are not permitted to
discriminate any individual during service. Services should be ensured confidentially by
the carers, doctors, social workers or any sort of health care professional. Full autonomy
should be ensured to the clients by every health care specialist, carers or service users.

Engagement with co-workers: In order to work as a team good understanding and work
relationship among the staff needs to be established. Improved outcome of work is
ensured by teamwork. Knowledge from other cultures and also respecting them, will be
done by every staff member (Jasper, 2011). In order to maintain the workplace with no
discrimination, harassment, bully etc. employers and service providers need to work hard.
To maintain a safe workplace everyone will work hard.
3.2 Effectiveness in promoting and supporting individual rights
Individual rights are provided by government so that every person residing in an area is
given the opportunity to fulfil his/her needs and requirements. Being a health care practitioner, it
is my duty to promote and support individual rights. There are various kinds of abuse and harm
taking place in the society which target innocent, vulnerable and weak groups of the community.
The awareness regarding individual rights and duties is important for reducing the risk of abuse
and harm (Cartmel, Smith and Miller, 2016). During my tenure in a social care organisation that
looked after children who suffered from autism and mental disabilities, I have experienced that
they were subjected to risk and threats in terms of harm and abuse. It is important to provide
their guardians and care takers specific information regarding children rights. It would help in
providing justice and access to social care whenever required by these children.
Henceforth, I felt that there was a need to promote campaigns and groups which support
individual rights. I have been participating in various social events and campaigns that take place
regularly to make vulnerable groups and those at risk aware about their basic rights. While
working in these social groups and campaigns, I came across a man who was crippled and
homeless. When enquired about his circumstances, it was evaluated that the person was thrown
out of his own house by his son and daughter-in-law due to his disabilities. The poor old man
could not find support and necessary care due to lack of awareness regarding his rights. I helped
in filing necessary requests for gaining health and social care. This depicts that positive impact is
experienced when individual rights and promoted and supported for those individuals who
cannot gain access to basic services (Strasser and et.al., 2013).
3.3 Ways for resolving issues
When individuals work in an organisation, they come across people who share similar
thoughts and beliefs. This leads to development of relations in different terms. Professional
workplace can lead to formation of both personal and professional relationships depending on

looked after children who suffered from autism and mental disabilities, I have experienced that
they were subjected to risk and threats in terms of harm and abuse.
Professional
workplace can lead to formation of both personal and professional relationships depending on
7
the behavioural characteristics of individuals (Pillen, Beijaard and Brok, 2013). But when people
do not coordinate and collaborate with each other at the workplace then certain consequences can
take place. Issues and clashes occur in such situations. Professional relationships have a deep
impact over the functioning of the company. The different ways in which I have been able to
resolve issues in professional relationships are depicted as follows:
1. Acknowledging own mistakes: An issue can arise between two people at the workplace
when there is no acknowledgement of mistakes. It is important to recognise the person
who is accountable for a particular consequence. If I am responsible for a situation, then
it is my sole responsibility of accepting the mistake and then taking appropriate measures
for resolving these issues.
2. Developing clarity about the situation: I have observed that often miscommunication is
the basic reason behind development of misunderstanding. The people who are facing
certain issues in their professional relationships should develop clarity and clear
conscience regarding a situation so that proper solution can be obtained (Barr, 2013).
My tenure in Barn Croft Primary School was bounded to serve children who had serious
learning difficulties. In such situations, often patience level of team members is exceeded and as
a result, clashes and conflicts occur. In such situation, I used my caring skill. I tried resolving
issues by negotiating different functions and brought up a solution i.e. equal distribution of
responsibilities.

4.1 Personal contributions
Working as a health care practitioner has helped me to contribute a lot in enhancing my
own capability and experience aspects because I have handled various situations while playing
my duties and responsibilities. For instance – at the time of emergency and accident services, I
always coordinate with my team members so that together we can deliver prominent services to
the patients. In terms of personal contribution, I can say that I have contributed as an active
leader in which I assist people in managing their roles and responsibilities. As I have previously
worked in the same sector; hence I know how to work with different team members. Though, in
team work, problems arise; still I managed in the best possible manner so that I can enhance the
efficiency of team work. While working in a team, I realized that I need to manage the interest of
team members as that can only amend the value of team work; hence I always cooperate with

other team players so that together we can render better services to the respective patient. I had to
deliver medical services to the patient who was actually my colleague’s patient; but since my
colleague was not present on the day of surgery; hence on his behalf, I took his responsibility as
a part of team.
My contributions in the team as a health care practitioner for children and young adults
has been with a collaborative approach. With my understanding, I was able to communicate well
with disabled children and adults. Moreover, my team members would ask for substantial inputs
from my side whenever dealing with small kids especially the ones suffering from autism.
4.2 Impact of self limits in work role
Health and social care is a workplace where human relations are the most important thing
to be considered. Entire cycle of giving and taking care is dependent on the ways with which
people interact and deliver their services (Garg, Toy and Freeman, 2015). My work role as
healthcare practitioner is to deliver appropriate health and social care services to the individuals
who are vulnerable or have certain kind of disability. Being a practitioner, my duties and
responsibilities are limited to certain extent. The ways through which I interact with people or
provide care services has some impact over the individuals who are seeking care.
I have devised my boundaries regarding personal informations and interactions. This
limits the development of personal relationships at workplace. The actions and attributes which I
portray in the health and social care setting has a significant impact over work of other
individuals. My work role is surrounded by different values and beliefs which is a must to be
followed without any compromise. The strictness with which I deliver my services to patients
and victims creates a deep impact over working abilities of others. My subordinates have to work
with same discipline and follow the strict guidelines that are set by management and
organisational heads (Corrie, Townend and Cockx, 2015).
4.3 Own contribution in reducing barriers
Teams or groups are formed when two or more than two individuals work towards
collective goals and objectives (Scholar, McLaughlin and Coleman, 2014). While working in an
non-governmental organisation, I have been a part of different teams. The main focus of these
teams was to spread awareness regarding different social issues and health concerns. Moreover, I
was also able to promote the knowledge regarding basic rights and responsibilities of individuals
towards health and social care conditions of the community. It is important to have harmony

9
inside a team so that main purpose behind functioning is not hindered. Hence, leader has to take
responsibility that barriers are effectively handled.
I have been the information collector and assistant in providing care services to
vulnerable groups. Lack of effective communication and no proper coordination in different
activities are two major barriers that are faced by teams in the health and social care groups
(Hoeve, Jansen and Roodbol, 2014). This can lead to disorientation of the team functions and
group activities from aims and objectives of the team. I have been taking care that every member
is well informed about all the major and minor changes that take place in the team. This has
helped in building communication bridges and decreasing the lack of information barrier in the
team (Williams and Berry, 2016). Moreover, I have been experiencing that team members lack
bonding and togetherness while performing group tasks. This is a barrier that affects the
functioning of the team and overall results that are obtained are quite deflective from the
estimated ones.
I took the initiatives of organising certain fun activities and team building exercises so
that a feeling of togetherness can be developed amongst the team members. I also requested my
leader to organise an event which will improve interactions amongst the team members. The
consequent outcomes of all these actions are better achievement of objectives and goals.
Furthermore, we were able to deliver effective services in the health and social care terms.
Belonging to different cultural backgrounds and specialisation in different language, I am
capable of communicating with individuals effectively. Through this quality of mine, I have been
able to reduce the cultural barriers that affect teamwork in organisation.
4.4 Recommendations for improving contributions
Team dynamics are disturbed when even one person shows deflective behaviours. Being
a significant member of this team, my role was to collect information regarding various subjects
and provide assistance in delivering health and social care services. Personal contributions can be
improved by adding up more participation in team building activities. When individuals feel
connected, their willingness to work in a team with collective goals increases. This increases the
effectiveness of working in a team.
Personal contributions can also be increased by adding positivity to behaviour. Positive
thoughts and inspirational talks help in imbibing a motivating atmosphere in the team (Corrie,
Townend and Cockx, 2015). This will help in encouraging individuals to work more and meet

developing a positive approach towards the team which has helped me in using best of my skills.
The personal contributions in a team are important because they form the basis on which people
perceive individual participation in teamwork. When rewards or appraisals are distributed then
the person who has given maximum contribution in the team is given at-most respect and
appraising. I have been obliged towards other team members which helped me in providing
sufficient contribution towards achievement of goals.
CONCLUSION
Development in personal values along with professional ones needs to be done while
working in health and social care sector. Diverse people come in everyday contact so dealing
with them requires effective communication. The way one communicates with other patients is
an indicator of his/her true behaviour. So one needs to develop his/her professional as well as
personal relationships. A development plan should be build up and accordingly monitored,
evaluated by an individual. Proper monitoring and evaluation of a development plan based on
long and short term goals helps an organization to offer quality services to its clients and other
individuals. One needs to deal with different sorts of people in health and social care profession.
For that nature of various professional relationships should be known. Individual rights should
be promoted and their effectiveness should be known. Analysation of the work contribution
done by an individual needs to be done. While working within a team, an individual's efficiency
to remove the barriers that come in their way is an indicator of his/her effectiveness. So for a
health/care organization to be successful, development of personal and professional ethics is
essential part.
