1. Introduction
Almost everyone in the workplace wants to reach their full potential in their career
and in life. People want to do their jobs as efficiently as possible to get the best
result. To perform at someone’s best, he or she must utilise his or her personal
effectiveness. Personal effectiveness is to make the best use of the resources at one
person’s disposal (such as talents, abilities, strength, time and energy), which enable
the person to achieve both personal and professional goals (Taylor, 2017). Personal
Effectiveness differs for everyone because of different goals, careers and priorities
(Osborn, 2019). However, it can still apply to everyone’s daily life.
This report aims to identify the impact of personal effectiveness on personal and
professional growth , as well as how to use it to achieve career goals. A case study
about Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai will be used as an example to evaluate his
personal effectiveness strategy by recognising his strength and weaknesses based on
relative frameworks and theories, which can provide a distinctive perspective about
his journey and how he uses them to succeed.
Also, this report will pinpoint the reporter’s personal effectiveness as a self-
reflection, and apply them to identify the strengths and weakness, with a plan on
how to improve the weaknesses in order to grow professionally and be more
competitive in the job market.
2. Case study of Sundar Pichai CEO at Google
2.1 Sundar Pichai key skills and behaviours outline
Sundar Pichai is regarded as a soft-spoken problem solver who avoids ruffling any
feathers. Except from his product and technology knowledge, his ability to lead and
collaborate with others that has elevated him to the position of most important man
within Google (IndiaTodayTech, 2019). He is known for forming strong teams,
avoiding office politics, and listening to everyone's ideas (Ghoshal, 2017).
Leaders should not only focus on their own achievement, more importantly, care
about their employee’s success. Pichai thinks as a leader, he must do a lot of work to
make his employees successful. To have right people and do the job to remove
obstacles or roadblocks for them. Thus, the employees can grow and succeed in
what they do (Singh, 2020).
