INTRODUCTION
In this modern era, for making business successful in competitive market, it is necessary
for a person to possess the managerial as well as leadership skills. Leadership refers lead or give
proper direction to team members for doing work and on the other way people are controlled in
a group on the basis of the established values and beliefs. The personal leadership skill is
described as the ability and power to describe the direction in which all the working will be
executed so that growth and success can be easily achieved in life with consistency and
effectiveness. (Neck and Manz, 2010). This report is based on ASDA organisation which is
supermarket retailer. It provides various products, mobile phone, financial services etc. This
report will discuss about the effect of organisational objectives cultures and also value on the
part of leadership styles and management perspective. Plan of personal management with clear
objectives to create management skills will also become part of this file.
TASK 1
Effect of organisational objectives, values and culture
Leadership effects on success of business firm in competitive environment. Leader guide
or leads employees so that they can perform in a better or effective manner. Leaders bring
various culture as well as values in a business firm which help firm in incorporating the needed
changes, this results in achieving objectives of company. The main objective of ASDA
Organisation is to achieve goals by offering better quality of goods with in a given period of
time. The other objective of ASDA firm is to consider each option to accomplish goals. In
addition to this, it is a responsibility of this firm to motivate its staff members to work towards
achieving objectives at minimum cost (Anderson and Anderson, 2010). Organisational objectives
are defined as devising the goals for long time period. They directly impact on role of
management and leadership. For achieving organisational goals, the main focus of leadership is
on minimising wastage, assuring about product recycling which results in reducing cost of
goods.
On the other hand, organisational culture also effects on role of leadership and
management. In an organisation, culture plays a necessary role in developing healthy
surrounding which supports a person and also staff to provide better services. In ASDA, adaptive
culture is helpful for leaders in accepting external changes with structure and it will also assess

staff to accept all kind of changes so that firm can provide better quality services to consumers.
In context to this, ethical values of firms also effect on management and leadership role in order
to perform activities in a proper manner. Through ethical values, firm should integrate health and
safety act, fair wage structure for its staff members in order to save their interest at workplace.
Leadership and management skills
ASDA plc is large size company and it deals in retail sector which offers large range of
grocery goods as well as services to consumers (Gentry And et. al., 2011). This firm operates its
stores in various countries in all over the world and serve large number of consumers by offering
them quality products. In addition to this, there are various leadership and management skills
which support in accomplishing organisational objective in effective manner. For attaining
objectives of ASDA firm leader should have various skills in order to supports employees which
are given below:
Communication skills- Manager or leader of ASDA company should have the better
communication skills which help in attaining objectives of firm. The communication skills are
also helpful in interacting with employees which directly provide services to consumers at
market place. If communication among employees and managers will be good then it will be
helpful in improving team work in company.
Decision making skills- In order to achieve objectives of ASDA firm, leader has to
possess better decision making skills which will support in overcoming many activities, give
satisfactory solution and also choosing proper decision for company. It is necessary that manager
or leaders should have ability to take better decisions in favour of an organisation.
TASK 2
Personal management and leadership skills and personal development requires to achieve
organisational objectives
For performing a role of marketing manager, it is very essential for an individual to have
management and personal leadership skills to guide and direct other individuals. Marketing
manager plays significant role at workplace and it is responsible for manage things at workplace
in better manner. (Nesbit, 2012). Marketing manager guide and encourage his team members to
complete individual's target. Final objectives of firm are interlinking with individual's target and
completion of that target contribute in success and growth of firm. Communication skill is

known as one of the major skill which should be present in an individual for performing the role
of marketing manager. In addition to this, problem solving, strategic planning, decision making,
build and maintain relationship, negotiation skills, quick learning skills and many more are
known as the main skills or abilities which should be in person. Good communication, decision
making and skill of relationship building support manager in creating and maintaining good
relationship with customers. When manager has various skills then other team members get
motivated to learn same skills (Thomas, 2015). All this impact on growth and success of
company. Skills of marketing manager increase the sale of company's product. Different skills
help marketing manager in encouraging team members to perform well which ensure success of
entity. In addition to this marketing manager have to take part in various learning programmes as
this help in developing various other skills which are essential for achieving set business
objectives.
Opportunities for development of management and leadership skills
Development of management and leadership skills is very essential to perform the role of
marketing manager in an effective manner. Various ways are there to develop those skills.
Training and development can be used to develop skills of individual so that they can perform in
a better manner. Reading is very useful for a person to develop personal skills. Style adopted by
leader largely affect his actions and decisions at workplace. Democratic style of leadership is the
one which is used by most of enterprises, one of the main reason behind this is that it is very
flexible and it encourage involvement of participants in decision making process. In order to
develop required skills, proper training should be offer to individuals. To perform a role of leader
in an effective manner, it is very essential for an individual to have adequate amount of
knowledge related with the issue, technical knowledge and many more (Osland, 2013). It is very
essential for an individual to have negotiation skills as it is necessary for perform a role of leader.
Various opportunities are there to develop management and leadership skills of an individual.
One of the major sources through which an individual learn is routine activities, observations,
experience, sharing of knowledge and many more. Programs of training and development
support in developing the skills of individuals and support them in performing their job roles in
an adequate manner.

After developing an effective personal plan, there is a need to execute that plan for
developing and increasing my abilities and skills so as to attain objectives in an effective manner
(Siemens, 2014). There are different ways to manage plan which are mention below:
Recording an action- In order to execute personal development plan in successful
manner, I should focus recording all kinds of learnings. Recoding of all achievements will assess
me to take better decision in future context.
Assessing own skills continuously- Under this, there is a need of performing periodic
assessment of work skills in context to ascertain core competencies and skills which are gained
according to future needs. So, I should examine the personal development plan in continuous
time period to manage leadership and management skills.
Proper review- Under this, I can manage programme through assuring proper
implementation of the personal development plan in addition to neglect any kind of negative
consequences. Under this, I can review my executing plan on regular basis to identify all
deviations which can occur while executing plan (Paterson, Henderson and Trivella, 2010). It
will be helpful in increasing management and leadership skills.

leadership skills such as increasing communication, attending consumers, dealing with them

which assess me in communicating with buyers. If firm will provide the better quality of services
to people then they will be satisfied from firm. Through this sales as well as profit level of firm
will be enhanced.
Reduce conflict- An efficiency of development of management as well as leadership
skills can examined through reviewing the conflict rate in ASDA organisation. Through
development plan, I can increase my abilities such as managing stress level in firm, increase
decision making skills, time management and many others. It will assess to me in minimising
dispute at workplace. If conflict will be arising less than in this case all team members will work
together to achieving aims of firm.
Areas for further development and update personal development plan
Through reviewing update of development plan and analysing efficiency of personal
development plan, I have determined that there are some of the areas which need to develop. So
regarding this, I need to increase my other capabilities which will provide better result in rising
my performance areas in ASDA firm. In this context, continuous learning will be helpful in
gaining some skills as well as knowledge for doing activities in better way and in future context.
I should be concentrate on adopting new techniques of learning in ASDA firm which can be
visual learnings by videos, images and many other ways (Connors, 2011). There are some of my
