INTRODUCTION
Leadership is an action of individual or group of individual to guide and influence other
team members of company. The leaders of organisation play a significant role in improving the
performance and efficiency of employees due to which they contribute their productive output in
achieving the goals and objective of business (Fry and Nisiewicz, 2020). They generally ensure
that employees must understand, work and embrace towards accomplishing business goals.
Leaders share information, celebrate progress, set new targets and also provide requires
resources (Gyurisko Sr, 2016). They are also responsible for managing operation, lead and
motivate team, manage performance, solve problems and also take care for health, safety and
welfare of people. The skills required for becoming effective leader are self development, team
development, strategic thinking and acting, ethical practice and innovation (Zhongming and et.
al., 2020). The project is based on managing organisation in which different leadership style and
principles of effective leadership are determined. In this project, an interview is conducted of Mr.
Bob McDonald who was a former chief executive officer of Procter & Gamble. In interview, he
highlights about principles of leadership which is used to create innovative culture and enhance
the performance of employees.
INTERVIEW ANALYSIS
Leadership is one of the important functions of management which provide guidance and
direction to employees in order to achieve vision and goals. It helps in motivating employees to
improve their performance and give productive outcomes. There are different models of
leadership such as transactional, transformational, democratic, autocratic, bureaucratic,
charismatic and laissez-faire leadership. In the interview, former CEO of Procter and Gamble
Mr. Bob McDonald has discussed about the principles of leadership which is implemented in
organisation for creating innovative culture and improving the performance of business. He
focuses on encouraging their employees to think innovatively and expect from them to deliver
innovation. Company understands the value of listening due to which they hear every innovative
idea of employees and also implement the relevant ideas that are suitable for business and also
improve the performance of company (White and Rice, 2015). They encourage all the employees
to innovate whether they are from factory line or executive assistant. Procter and Gamble also
created a leadership model in create positive working environment and enhance the performance

of employees and company. The model was 3E model which is devoted to Envision, Enable and
Execute. Later the brand has added two more E, Engage and Energize. In the interview,
McDonalds makes statement about collaboration and engagement “The idea is collaboration—
that no leader of value does anything by themselves today.” In this statement he laid emphasis on
the engagement level of employees within business activities. It is important for leader to
encourage their staff to participate in business activities in order to give their valuable feedback
and opinions (Rao, 2016). For increasing the collaboration, Procter and Gamble provide training
opportunity to people and also take feedback on their ability to collaborate. Mr. Bob McDonald’s
also thinks that it is important for employees to work together so that they can achieve great
height of success. Through working together company, staff can embrace the benefits which they
gain through collaboration (McGuigan, 2015).
In order to encourage collaboration, Participative leadership is suitable style which helps
in increasing the engagement level of staff due to which they work collectively in organization
for attaining the goals and objective of business. It is one of the effective styles as it helps in
encouraging collaboration, opens up an organisation, facilitates free flow of ideas, decrease
competition and also improves the morale of employees due to which they perform better (Siu,
2021). The organisation also promotes diversity in workplace due to which they have staff of
different regions and culture. Mr. Bob McDonald’s thinks that a diverse workforce helps in
encouraging innovation and also brings new ideas for increasing the profitability and making
business successful in market. They implements Platinum rule in which they treat all employees
as they wanted to be treated. They focus on creating the environment in which staff feels
comfortable and work positively (Edereho, 2020). Mr. Bob McDonald’s states in an interview
that,” Leaders should look for ways to do things differently than they did them before, not simply
work harder.” It is important for leaders to thin differently and work smartly rather than working
hard. Leaders must get out of office and shop with consumers in order to identify their behaviour
and attitude while purchasing the products of Procter and Gamble. Through shopping with
customers, leaders can know their perception while purchasing the product and also they can
understand the need and requirement of consumers.
CONCLUSION
It is being concluded from the above information that by implementing right leadership style
company can achieve success in market and also gain competitive advantage over its

competitors. There are several leadership styles which help in improving the performance of
business. Leadership helps in making business successful by encouraging staff and motivating
them to perform better.
