INTRODUCTION
Health and social care organizations are responsible for offering quality services to
customers for their better and fast recovery. It is essential for the organization to develop
appropriate and efficient principles for providing quality services and medication to the patients.
In the present time, due to change in lifestyle, people are suffering from various diseases and
disorders. Along with this, it is important to maintain the dignity, respect and morale of service
users at the time of treatment. Various policies and practices are followed by the health and
social care firms for maintaining effective organizational environment for the care workers and
patients as well (Röthlin, 2013). The present file is based on the given case scenario. It focuses
on the principles of support, impact of policy, regulations, legislation, etc. Along with this, report
consists of theories that underpin health and social care practices and implementation of health
and social policies.
1.1 Principles of support are applied to ensure that service users are cared for in Fleetwood Hall
Home
According to the given case study, Fleetwood is offering inadequate services to the
patients and staff members. It is essential for healthcare to handle all the issues effectively for
proper registration. The principles which Fleetwood care home needs to implement within its
environment are explained below: Privacy and dignity: There is no privacy for female and male patients as they have to
share same bathrooms and toilets. With respect to this, it is important for Fleetwood to
maintain dignity and privacy of the patients. It is required to offer services by keeping
gender, type of disease, habits, etc of the service users. In this context, as a manager in
the care home, I will create a more space for the patients by considering their privacy. It
will raise the service user’s confidence level and self esteem. Along with this, as a
manager, I will ensure that staff of the care home should respect the dignity of the staff
by delivering then personal care. In addition to this, I will make sure that service
providers will take permission from the patients before enter into the room. By
implementing all these principles, Fleetwood can make its client independent. (Morgan,
2013).
Protection from abuses: Sometimes, nurses or care workers feel irritated or frustrated by
handling and dealing with service users. Such situations make them to abuse patients and

it is not good for them and image of the Fleetwood. As a manager of the care home, I
will make sure that care workers use polite and courteous language to talk with the
patients and develop a good relationship with them. For the same, I will also ensure that
there is a no nay kind of the discrimination with the services users by the care workers at
the time of delivering the care services. This principle has to be followed by firm with
some improvements. Such as, Fleetwood needs to conduct training sessions for nurses
and care workers for improving and enhancing their communication and problem solving
skills (Alhatmi, 2011).
1.2 Procedures that are adopted in Fleetwood Hall Homefor protecting clients and colleagues
from harm.
Fleetwood Hall Homefor is following some procedures for preventing patients and
health-care professionals from any harm or injury. It needs to improve them for handling issues
more appropriately. These procedures are explained below:
Measurement of the risk: In this, various types of risks has been assessed by Fleetwood which
can harm the service users, care workers or firm itself. These risks can be: financial,
psychological, emotional, physical, etc.
Decide who might be harmed from risks and how: In this step, healthcare identifies those care
workers and patients who might be harmed by the present risks in the organization. Along with
this, care home determines manner in which they can be harmed due to identified hazards
(Goetzel and et.al., 2008).
Assessment of risks and determine the safeguards: In this, Fleetwood evaluate each and every
risk for identifying their priorities, level and impact. As per the results, appropriate methods
regarding the precautions are implemented by the care home for protecting their staff members
and clients as well. This also includes installation of required and necessary equipment like fire
extinguishers, smoke detector, etc.
Documentation of the results: In this process, Fleetwood record complete risk assessment
process. It includes documentation related to the type of risks, their level, impact, strategies for
handling them, who might be harmed, etc. This record helps health-care in evaluating past and
present strategies for making appropriate improvements (Scott and Spouse, 2013).
Review and Update: The overall process takes place within the workplace after regular time
period for determining new risks or hazards. As per the results, methods for precautions are

updated by the healthcare professionals for keeping the environment safe and secure (Green,
Savin and Lu, 2013). .
1.3 Benefit of following a person-centred approach
Fleetwood Hall Homefor can use person-centered approach for effective and better
treatment of service users. With the help of this method, care home can enhance the satisfaction
level of its clients and their families. Person-centered approach is used by health-care
organizations for delivering quality care services to the patients. By using this, health care
professionals of Fleetwood will able to identify essential needs and requirements of respective
person. With the help of this, social care firm can make modifications or changes in its services
as per the expectations of clients. Apart from this, with the help of this approach, Fleetwood can
increase confidence and self esteem among patients which will lead to their better and fast
recovery. This method can develop a hope among the service users towards recovery of their
health problems (Croft, 2013).
Along with this, person-centred approach also gives emphasis to the family situations,
lifestyle, and expectations of the individuals and help care workers in dealing with service users
accordingly. It is important to maintain respect, dignity and privacy of individuals while offering
them person-centered care. This leads to increase client's independence and makes them to do
their routine work (Grajales III and et.al.,2014).
By using this approach, Fleetwood will able to handle issues of the patients and their
family members. This will lead to handle food related, infrastructure, medicine related, etc issues
which will help in enhancing satisfaction level of the service users. This method will help care
home in improving quality of its services and medications (Murray and et.al., 2013).
1.4 Ethical dilemmas and conflict that may have arisen when providing care, to the elderly
clients in Fleetwood Hall
Sometimes, care workers of the Fleetwood face dilemmas and conflicts while offering
services to the elderly clients. Health-care organization is following policies and practices which
are important for patients to follow. But sometimes, they face dilemma in following their policies
along with dealing with the service users. Due to the different perception and opinion health-care
professionals face conflicts with the patients. It is difficult for staff members to handle such
situations. Improper handling of the dilemmas leads to negatively impact reputation and image of

Fleetwood among the clients and their families (Ethical dilemmas and conflicts in healthcare,
2015).
By considering the case study of Mrs. Y, it is policy of the care homes that nurse have to
give medicines to the patient at the specific time. But client also have right to take their own
decisions and refuse for taking medicine. In such situation, care worker of Mrs. Y faces dilemma
as either he or she listen the patient request to do not use transit strip for moving from bed to
chair or refuse that request. For handling such situations, nurses of the care home handle the case
very sensitively and try to convince elderly patients to take their medicines for fast recovery. On
the other hand, in the case of Mrs. Z, she loves the bright color of fire and called them dancing
lights. There is fear to the care workers that if she have any kind of matchbox or lighter with her
then it will be a chance of injury or accident. For this, it has deiced to supervised her time to time
and this thing not liked by Mrs. Z. So, there is a dilemma for the care workers either to protect
the patients or looking towards the health of her. Along with this, health-care professionals of
Fleetwood face issue in handling activities of the elderly individuals. Due to boring life and lack
of activities, service users want to go outside and enjoy but it is the responsibility of care workers
to refuse them for such activities according to the health and disease. In such situations, dilemma
is faced by the staff members. They have to fulfil needs and desires of clients along with policies
of the care home. Therefore, it is critical task for social workers to handle and deal with the
patients properly (Horton, Collier and McAndrew, 2015).
TASK 2
2.1 Implementation of policies, legislation, regulations and codes of practice in Fleetwood
According to the given case scenario, Fleetwood is not following policies, legislation,
regulations and code of practices in appropriate manner. It is essential for the care home to
implement appropriate laws and regulations within the environment for offering quality services
to the clients (Brett and et.al., 2014.). The policies, legislation, regulations and codes of practices
which health-care organization needs to follow are explained below:
Policies:
Fleetwood Hall Home for needs to implement effective policy regarding the health and
safety of the patients. After the inspection, it has been found that home is not following proper
health and safety policies which leads to create fear of harm or injury among the elderly patients.
With the help of health and safety policy, care home can install equipment regarding fire

extinguishers, alarm systems, wheelchairs, etc for the clients. This will lead to reduce the
accidents and injuries within the firm (Quality Protects research program, 2015).
Legislation:
Fleetwood needs to adopt some legislation for improving the quality of its medication
and services. By implementing the laws like Health and safety at work act 1978, data protection
act 1998 and Care Standard Act, 2002. Firm will able to develop effective environment for the
service users and staff members as well. Under the Care Standard Act, care home will able to
assure clients about the quality of the services. Along with this, with the help of data protection
act Fleetwood will able to prevent personal information of the service users and employees. This
will also help in protecting confidential information of the health-care itself from unauthorized
access. On the other hand, under the health and safety at work act care home will lead to offer
proper safety and security to the patients (Rescare, 2012).
Regulations:
By using Care Homes (Wales) Regulation, 2002 and Care Home Regulation, 2000
Fleetwood will bale to provide services to the clients as per their need and expectations. Under
these regulations, if care home offers the services at the home of the patient then it will be
responsible for the unfavorable conditions which will occur (Alhatmi, 2011.).
2.2 Policies and procedures can be developed in Fleetwood Hall Home
Various policies and procedures are developed by the UK government with respect to the
health and social care organizations. The policies of the firms are developed with the help of
national policies. These help in offering quality services to the patients, managing the work of
the staff members, maintaining safety at the workplace, etc. National policies have wider scope
in health and social care firms as compare to the local policies. These offer various factors to
think and implement within the environment of the health-care for developing effective image in
the competitive market. On the other hand, sometimes local policies help in handling critical and
difficult cases. So, it is essential for the Fleetwood to analyses local policies regarding health
care with respect to the national policies. This will help care home in implementing most suitable
and appropriate policies and procedures in right and effective manner (Braithwaite, Iedema and
Jorm, 2007).
Fleetwood needs to analyses both national and local policies for improving its present
conditions. With the help of proper evaluation, firm will able to assess present policies for

identifying their effectiveness. It is necessary for the health care to improve the situation for
preventing itself from any type of strict orders from Care Quality Commission (CQC). It is
important for the care home to consider values, morale and opinions of the service users while
developing new policies. Along with this, it is also primary factor to include legislation, code of
practices, regulations, etc while formulating policies for the health and social care. This will lead
to improve the present condition of the Fleetwood and enhance the satisfaction level of the
service users with their family members (Clark, 2011).
2.3 Impact of policy, legislation, regulation, and codes of practice on policies and practices of
Fleetwood
Fleetwood Hall Home will have positive impact of the policies, legislation, regulation
and code of practices. With the help of effective policies and procedures, care home will able to
resolve and handle its present issues. It will able to offer proper medication to the service users
along with their proper documentation. By keeping detail of all the medicines, their impact, uses,
side effects, etc firm will able to use them appropriately. This will lead to fast and better
recovery of the clients having dementia or any other mental illness (Emerson and et.al., 2012).
Apart from the above, with the help of proper health and safety policies, women living in
care home will start feeling safe and secure. They will able to use proper and high quality
services with respect to the bathroom and toilets. This will lead to improve the image of the
health care firm in-front of all male and female clients (Goetzel and et.al., 2008).
Implementation of the proper and effective policies will lead to appropriate management
of medicines. This will lead to handle the errors or mistakes regarding administration, storage
and monitoring of the medicines in efficient manner. Appropriate laws and regulations will lead
to development of proper care plan for the recovery of mental patients (Heginbotham, 2012).
All the above positive changes will lead to enhance the satisfaction level of the staff
members and clients. This will develop effective image of the Fleetwood Hall Home in front of
investigators and CQC. Firm will get competitive advantages for developing leading market
position and increasing market share. Apart from this, by following all laws and regulations in
respect to the health and social care, Fleetwood will make effective image in front of government
of the UK (McKeown and et.al., 2011).

TASK 3
3.1 Theories that underpin your work as care worker in Fleetwood Hall Home.
As care worker in Fleetwood Hall home, I would like to implement below explained
theories for improving its inadequate condition.
Development Theory:
By implementing this theory within the organization, health care professionals will able
to understand the growth and changes in appearance of the patients with respect to the weight,
bones, organ functioning, body structure, etc. This will also lead to understand changes in
behavior of individuals with increasing age. By this theory, care workers will able to suggest
right medicine, treatment, etc to the service users for handling their mental health issues
(Morgan, 2013.).
Model of Kubler-Ross:
This model gives focus to the management of the losses and changes. This includes
anger, sadness, acceptance, bargaining, denial and many other factors. For better understanding
the situations of the service users this model will help health care professionals of the Fleetwood
Hall Home. As per this, in the first stage any incident occur which results to develop anger in the
individual (second stage) which results to bring changes in the behavior or mentality of the
person (third stage) and in the end, individual accepts the change. By understanding all these
stages, care workers of the care home will able to handle the cases appropriately (Preston-Shoot
and Kline, 2012).
3.2 Social processes impact on your service users in Fleetwood Hall Home
There are many impact of the social processes on the service users of Fleet Hall Home, It
is essential to consider social processes and their effect on the patients while dealing with their
health problems. The approach of social processes include group of individuals whose purpose is
to interact and communicate (Röthlin, 2013). With respect to the Fleetwood, it is important and
vital to understand the behavior and attitude of the clients by involving them into the social
groups. This has both positive and negative impact on the quality and treatment of the home. In
context to the positive impact, with the help of this approach service users are able to divert their
mind from depression and health problems. They are able to communicate effectively with the
care workers or other individuals. Along with this, health care professionals are able to know
Document Page
each and evertyhin about the clients which will help them in dealing clients accordingly (Walshe
and Kieran, 2003).
On the other hand, use of social processes is affecting the quality and standard of the
services, medication and treatments. There are chances that nurses or care workers of the care
home uses abusive words for those who are unable to listen. Another example is related to the
disable individuals. Staff members are providing proper treatments to the patients for handling
their health problem regarding the mental processing but they are considering individuals on the
basis of caste, religion, color, creed and many more. This is developing discrimination within the
workplace. Thus, it is essential for the Fleetwood to use social processes properly for only
positive results (Scott and Spouse, 2013.).
3.3 Effectiveness of inter-professional working for your service users in Fleetwood Hall Home.
It is essential for the health care professionals to have effective inter-professional skills. It
refers to the working of care workers in different roles with various responsibilities like
therapists, assistant, cardiac surgeons, doctors, etc. With the help of effective inter-professional
skills, doctors can able to provide proper treatment and medication to the patients of the
Fleetwood Hall Home. On the basis of their experience, they can also suggest appropriate
strategies and approaches to the higher authorities for resolving the present shortcomings
(Morgan, 2013).
TASK 4
4.1 Own role, responsibilities, accountability and duties within and outside nursing Home

regarding medicine management and its documentation.
4.2 Own contribution to the development and implementation of organisational policy in Nursing
Home
As a manager of Well- Being Care Home, I analyses the environment of the organization
and care homes effectively. This evaluation aware me about the improper implementation of the
organizational policies. From the shortcomings pointed out by the CQC, I develop and
implement the policies appropriately. These policies are explained below:
Policies related to the data protection:
I will implement the policies for keeping the data related to the health care professionals
and clients safe and secure. This policy is for preventing unauthorized access of third person to
the system of the care home.
Policy regarding organizational culture:
I will implement whereas strategies and approaches for improving the organizational
culture of the Fleetwood nursing home. These include maintenance of dignity, respect, morale,
etc of the clients while delivering them services. Along with this use of polite and proper
language without any abusive word while dealing with service users.
Policy related to the training and development sessions:
As per the shortcomings of the CQC, Fleetwood do not provide training to the nurses
which results to improper management of patients,. For improving this situation, I will
implement policy related to the training session as I have followed in Well-Being Care Home for
the development and enhancement of the care workers.
4.3 Recommendations to develop own contributions
Recommendations are important for me to improve and enhance my work efficiency and
performance in the Fleetwood nursing home. As per the report of CQC, care home is not
following all the policies and practiced properly. Along with this, there is lack of high quality
services to the clients. These problems are resolved by me with the help of proper
Document Page
implementation of the proper and effective policies. For maintaining the quality of work and
services, Fleetwood have to conduct risk assessment time to time. This will help me and my team
members to maintain and manage the position and image of the firm in future. Along with this,
as a manager of Well- Being Care Home, I will change the policies and practices as per the
changes in legislation by government of UK. This will help in working legally with the time and
requirement of the situation. Along with this, I will take feedback from the service users for
identifying their problems and issues with respect to the services of the nursing home. This will
help me in taking appropriate actions for satisfying the need and expectations of the clients.
CONCLUSION
From the above study, it is concluded that with the help of proper principles, policies and
practices, health and social care firms can deliver quality services to the clients. Fleetwood need
to make changes into its working style and organizational policies for increasing the satisfaction
level of the patients. Along with this, with the help of appropriate theories health care
professionals will able to suggest appropriate treatments and medications to the mental ill service
users for their fast recovery.
