Working with and leading people is a concept of Human resource management that deals
with each aspect regarding recruiting, retaining and training employees to ensure achievement of
overall objectives. Purple mail company is one of the leading courier company operating in
UK.The report has been prepared to highlight recruitment, selection and retention procedure to
be followed by cited organization to overcome management and administrative challenges. Clear
understanding of leadership style to be adopted and considerable impact on overall performance
of organization has been provided. Management executive is assigned with the task of
motivating team members to promote the concept of team integration. Lastly, the report focuses
on analysing personal needs for development of career of individual so that the cited
organization is back on the track by aligning with effective management and leadership style
(Canfield and Hansen, 2012).

1.1 Document for selecting and recruiting the new staff member
As per the current situation of Purple Mail (PM) company, the firm is facing leadership
and management issues at workplace. This has resulted in affecting the revenue generation
capacity of the organization in a negative manner. In order to sort out the defined issues, the
management needs to recruit and select a marketing manager. For the recruitment and selection
of the marketing manager certain documents are required which are stated below.

1.2 Impact of legal, regulatory and ethical consideration during recruitment and selection
It is seen that, the management of PM company is going to recruit a marketing manager
for effective company operations. During the interview process the HR manager needs to focus
on legal, regulatory and ethical aspects. This will assist the new candidate to build trust towards
the cited firm. There are certain laws are explained below.
Equal pay act, 1970: On the basis of this act, the management of PM company requires
maintaining equality in the pay of a men and women. Or the organization can provide salary as
per the qualification and knowledge of an individual. This results in lowering down the
discrimination on the basis of equal pay (Ang, 2012).
Sex discrimination act, 1975: This act safeguards an individual form being discriminated on the
basis of gender. By implementing this act the employees specially women candidates do not face
issues at the time of promotion to higher designations.
Disability discrimination act, 1995: This is another law that helps a disable employee being
discriminated due to disability. The management should safeguard the disabled employees who
are being discriminated by other employees in the company (Franckeiss, 2011).
1.3 Taking part in selection process
As an HR manager, the whole process of recruitment and selection is being supervised by
me. The interview process of the candidate was initiated by me where the communication skills
and other interpersonal skills were evaluated. This helped me to develop a good level of

understanding towards the candidates Additionally, personal questions were asked by me which
consist of qualifications, hobbies and interest. Further, I asked questions with reference to the
concerned subject in order to judge little subject knowledge of the candidate. Besides, this I
asked about the past designation of the candidate which helped me to know about the past
experiences. Later on, third level was conducted by me where we negotiated for the salary.
Further, I have negotiated with the candidate which helped me to know more about the
candidate. Further, I have discussed about the legal and regulatory policies of the company. This
helped the employees to know the company' polices in legal terms. This has created a positive
image in the mind of that candidate. The whole process of recruitment has remained successful
and the employee carry good experience (Hellman, 2012).
1.4 Own contribution in the recruitment process
There is major contribution being played by me in the recruitment and selection process.
As a HR manager of the PM company, there are different areas of the candidate were required to
analysed because the organization is facing different issues. However, the abilities of the
candidate were required to judged effectively. I played an indispensable role while judging the
candidate. I evaluated his general knowledge and also his E.Q. So that his behaviour could be
predicted with another employees. Besides this, I have evaluated the skills and qualification
needed for the present designation offered by the Pm company (HU and FANG, 2010).
In context to above, I supervised the whole interview procedure and evaluated his ability
for the present designation of marketing manager. I found his qualities and skills will assisted
this company to sort out the issues faced by the organization. It is also seen that the company is
facing continuous losses which can overcome with the help of effective supervision. However,
for the present company situation, it requires good candidate who can get the company on correct
track. Besides this, I analysed the behaviour of the candidate and his willingness to work with
PM company. This helped me to judge the employee in an effectual manner.

2.1 Skills and attribute needed for leadership
It takes a lot of time for improving leadership skills and attributes to achieve overall
objectives and goals. Improved skills and efficiency have a positive impact on organizational
performance as more and more efforts are laid by leaders. Following is a list of skills and
attributes that must be possessed by an efficient leader.

 Innovative: Leaders at cited organization must enhance their innovative skills so that timely
guidance is provided to team members according to changing situations. The personnel must
be innovative to design new plans and structures so that employees are able to deliver best of
their skills.
 Monitoring: Examining performance of each team member is an important role to be
performed by an efficient leader. Complicated structure of cited organization can be
simplified if activities are constantly supervised.
 Evaluation: After analysing performance of each individual team member, inferences must
be drawn for concluding effectiveness of efforts laid by team members. Important decisions
regarding conducting training campaigns are taken after a need has been highlighted for
providing the same (Costello, Bouras and Davis, 2007).
 Development: An efficient leader must be capable enough for providing ample of
opportunities to employees so that they get an opportunity to enhance their career
development plan. Personal development of human resources will have a positive impact on
improvement of administration and management of cited organization.
 Controlling: One of the main task to be performed by a leader includes constantly
controlling the activities and task of individual personnel. This ensures completion of task
within specified time limit along with ensured results as activities are performed in
appropriate manner decided by senior executives (Dodd and et. al., 2011).
2.2 Difference between leadership and Management
Leadership is an art of controlling activities performed by team members whereas
management is all about managing activities of number of teams. Leadership is purely providing
guidance to subordinates so that working norms are followed for aligning with criteria for
producing quality assured services. It thereby has limited scope as compared to management.
Management executive has to perform a number of task as a broad portfolio of activities are to
be carried out on the basis of decisions taken by respective individual. Leadership however
follows a strict behavior wherein punishments are given on occurrence of failure or fault in
behavioral pattern. On the other hand, management is all about motivating staff to promote team
integrated work with increased level of efforts executed by a team. Training is provided if
common issues are noted on similar topic. Appreciation is provided by managers to motivate

crisis , the cited organization must adopt authoritative style of leadership. This will enable the
leaders to issue effective policies and guidelines on the basis of strategies designed by top
executives which will directly improve administrative and management environment within
organization so that the cited firm is able to overcome major challenges (Kalsy and et. al., 2007).
Major challenges must be resolved with this style of leadership whereas minor issues must be
solved by adopting participative leadership style. This will allow the potential leader to gather
recommendations from skilled and efficient staff and thereby provide them a sense of importance
of their contribution in decision making (Jahoda and et. al., 2009).
2.4 Ways to motivate staff
Motivational campaigns are required to be carried out so that efforts laid by each individual
are recognized and appreciated to promote the importance for working better.For Purple Mail
Company it is very important to motivate the staff in different ways to hit the targets of company
in time period as well as motivate staff. Treat everyone in dignity and give respect to them so
that they do not feel any discrimination or biased treatment. Encourage the employees to explore
skills and capabilities by delivering increased contribution for completion of task assigned.
Financial rewards must be provided as this type of motivational measures are effective in
retaining an employee for longer period (Guberman and et. al., 2007).

workplace and they enjoy task or activities by sharing their opinions. This leads in increasing
trust between all members which encourage them to create effective alternative solutions in
difficult projects.
Encourages healthy risk- taking- Working individually does not encourage them to
take risk (Hellman,2012). On the other hand, Team work allows the members to take risk at each
level which provides challenge as well as opportunity for the overall development.
Higher outcomes from service quality- Working in a team helps in developing a better
outcome by properly utilizing the resources with the help of grouping efforts of all the members
in a team. So, the team objectives can be achieved leads to increases the speed of work by
working together that helps the firm to complete the task before time.

work performance which are as follows- Productivity evaluation- This is powerful tool to monitor work performance of an
individual as it track the real- time capabilities of the inidviduals automatically(Heath
2012). It categorize into various applications such as productive, neutral and
unproductive to know the standard of each individual's productivity within the firm. Feedback- Manager take feedback from its subordinates to know the difference among
before and after training sessions to judge that the trainings which are conducted by them
is beneficial or not (Mendenhall,2012). This is the best way to monitor performance and
it assists the firm to improve management conflict among people in an effective manner. Benchmarking- In this method, the manager is involved in providing effective guidance
to manage the performance. By adopting this method it aids the firm to motivate the

It has supported positive behaviour and attitude among members that help in maintaining strong
customer relationship. In this plan there is mainly focus on coordinator, operator and supervisor
which create career growth and development in worker's personality. This will resolve various
conflicts and firm's is capable to satisfy the customer expectation leads achievement of goals and
objective((Kurtz,2014). In addition to this, there is successfully implementation of these
development plan which is assessed by the company' s manager with the help of comparative
study. The results is figure out it has increase in sale's turnover by 80% and customer is highly
satisfied leads to achieve firm's goals and objectives. The HR manager evaluate the on the basis

towards specific goals and develop a alternative solution to handle with the different situation
where conflict exist. Different types of leadership style is adopted by the firm to handle conflict
situation and motivate employees so, working environment becomes healthy.
