INTRODUCTION
Recruitment and selection process in every business is essential because it helps the
company in selecting a right candidate for the job. It may be defined as the finding of the
candidate from various sources. Selection may be defined as choosing the right candidate for the
job by following the appropriate structure (Jiang, Lepak and Baer, 2012). This report is based on
recruitment and selection process of Bailey Bus & Coach Company. This report is completely
based on planning the recruitment and selection process of the company.
TASK 1
1. Two flowcharts for identifying the recruitment process of two different organization and
different methods used to recruit staff.
In order to know the recruitment and selection process, two organisations has been
selected i.e. Tesco and Hilton.
Tesco Hilton
1. They use both internal and external sources
of the recruitment. In this, they see the list of
candidate and recruit them. In external source,
they give advertisement on their company’s
website.
1. In the internal source Hilton hire their
interns as full-time staff for the job position. In
external source, they recruit the employee by
contacting the hotel school (Hendry, 2012).
2. As Tesco is the largest organisation and
operating in large number of countries, so the
company is required to recruit from internal
and external sources. Tesco require right
people for their job position so most time the
vacancy occur in the company (Losey,
Meisinger and Ulrich, 2005).
2. Hilton is providing the standard services to
their customers so they want employees which
match to the standard of the company so for
this most of the time vacancy occur in the
organisation.

Tesco recruitment process:
First step in their recruitment process is manpower planning.
After it, they make job description and person specification.

They attract candidate by giving advertisement on net, offers attractive package to the
internal employee.
When recruitment is done they do screening of the candidate
After screening a selection process is started in the company.
Hilton hotel recruitment process
1. In Hilton recruitment process, first they target the candidate for job position by using
internal and external source.
2. In the second step, they collect CV of the candidate.
3. Screening and evaluation of candidate takes place.
4. After screening the interview is conducted for the candidate (Hendry, 2012).

2. Impact of the legal and regulatory framework on recruitment and selection process
Ahmed is planning recruitment and selection process in Bailey Bus and Coach Company.
So they are required to consider the legal and regulatory framework of recruitment and selection
because this legislation has put impact on the company recruitment and selection process.
1. Sex discrimination act 1997: According to this act, the company do not discriminate on
the basis of gender. The recruitment is carried out in the fair manner with both male and
female candidates (Jiang, Lepak and Baer, 2012).
2. Equality Act 2010: According to this, all workers are treated equally in the organisation
regarding the pay, gender; work etc. so in recruitment and selection process, the company
has to give equal salary to all individual. They should not do any discrimination.

3. Documents used in the recruitment and selection activities
Ahmed is the planning for the recruitment and selection process of Bailey Bus and Coach
Company So they must prepare the following documents:
Job advertisement
Bailey Bus and Coach Company is reputed and fast growing company. We are currently
looking for the job of office manager who has variety of the skills and are able to manage day to
day work of the company (Kehoe and Wright, 2013). This is unique opportunity for those
candidates who want to make career in this field.

4. Compare the different purposes of the different documents used in recruitment and selection
process
All the documents which are used in recruitment and selection process have different
purposes. When the recruitment and selection process was held in the organisation various
documents were used and they are job description, job advert, person specification, CV, cover
letter etc. (Noe, 2010). It is basically a brief regarding the job position that is required by the
company. It usually includes job title, roles and responsibilities for candidate. The main purpose
of this document is to basically provide outline of the job to the candidate. Another document
that is used in the interview process is person specification. Main purpose of this Document is to
give a brief about the person qualities, skills, knowledge that is required by the company
(McBrayne, 2011). It is also helpful for the company in selection process because by this the
organisation can select the right candidate.

selection process. The main purpose of this document is to give information to the candidate for
the vacant position in the company.

5. Usefulness of each document that is used in the interview pack
The first document that is used in the interview pack is curriculum vitae. It is beneficial
for the organization because it gives the overview of the candidate that is coming to the interview
(Brody, 2010). It also helps Bailey Bus & Coach Company in identifying the deserving candidate
for the job. Apart from that, another document that is used in the interview process of the
company is job description. This document is useful as it communicates the roles and
responsibilities to employee about particular job position in the company. It is also beneficial in
measuring performance of the employee.
Furthermore, next document that is included in the interview pack is the person
specification. It is useful for both employee and employer. Further, it will assist the employer for
selecting the deserving candidate for particular job position. It also helps the candidate who is
going for giving the interview because by it they can identify the skills which are required by the
organization for particular job position (Catano, 2013).

6. Plan to take part in the selection interview
Ahmed has shortlisted some candidate for the job and wishes to take interview. So he is
planning for interview which he wants to take from the candidates. So this plan include
following things:

7. Contribution to the selection process
I contributed a lot in selection process for the job position of the office manager in Bailey
Bus & Coach Company. I took part as the interviewer in the selection process. Firstly, I designed
the interview pack for the candidate. In this pack, various documents were prepared by me like
job description, person specification, and application form for the candidates.
Apart from that, I designed the interview questions which have to be asked to the
interviewee. When the candidate came for the interview firstly I gave a brief of the company and
the job position. Then I told about the selection process which is running in the company for
selecting the candidate. I told them about the work that what roles and responsibility they should
follow. After that, I take the interview of the candidate one by one and carefully observed them
that what skills that possess (Recruitment and Selection Procedures, 2014). I also told to the
candidate about the benefits and salary that is given by the company to them. Finally, I discussed
with the top management of the company for selecting the candidate for particular job position.

8. Experience of planning and participating in recruitment and selection process
In this report, I evaluated my experience regarding planning and participating in the
recruitment and selection process of Bailey Bus and Coach Company. My experience is good
regarding the process. I have assigned with the work of designing paperwork for interview. In
this, I made job description, person specification, application letter etc. This paperwork is helpful
in knowing the candidate in a better way. Another duty which was assigned is designing the
interview question (Longenecker and Fink, 2013). All the questions are prepared by keeping
candidate in mind. These all questions are helpful for the interviewer to know more about the
candidate. The interviewer also knows about the pressure handling capacity of the candidate. As
the recruitment and selection process is prepared by me it is giving me a good kind of the
experience because by this I am able to know about the various types of the interview conditions

held in different organization. All experience is good but a major limitation is lack of time by
which proper research was not conducted.
TASK 9
9. Witness statement of the selection interview
I took part in interview of the applicant and carefully observed the interview process. So
my witness statement regarding the interview is must I observe that all the documents that are
needed in the organisation is prepared very carefully. When CV was observed by me then I
noticed that quality of CV is good but it can be made in a better way. The cover letter which was
sent by the interviewee in not up to the mark because it does not include all the points of the job
description. The question which was prepared by Ahmed is good because it is helpful in knowing
the personality of the candidate.
Comment on interviewee: Candidate which has come for giving the interview is well
prepared. All the documents i.e. CV, cover letter and application form was well prepared. The
candidate has also come in the formal dress for interview and gives all the answers very
carefully.
CONCLUSION
From the above report a conclusion is drawn that by effective recruitment and selection
process a company selected a right candidate for the job. In order to make effective process it
requires a valid document. These all documents are helpful in making good recruitment and
selection process.
