Digital tools andtechnologies plays crucial role in developing organisational as well as economic condition ofsociety. In this modern era large a wide range of people are busy with digital tools andtechnologies as these are helpful in making humans life more easy and comfortable. In thisdigital era competition is so high at market place and each small as well as large businessenterprises are concern on rendering variety of high featured products and services to theirpotential buyers in order to satisfying their needs and wants. Information and digital tools andtechnologies has a huge influence in most of the business sectors in all aspects of economy,while business and organisations regularly undergoing towards a considerable changes. In thismodern business environment each firm is concern on adopting technologies as these are helpfulin revolutionising the rules and regulations of business enterprises, this create value in structuraltransformation of enterprises. With the emergence of digital tools and technologies, profitabilityof firms are increased as these are essential in providing significant direction to the business andits operations. Nintex USA LLC is a chosen company for this particular research dissertation,the company deals in providing workflow automation software and platform for business users,developers and information technology professionals (Cavusgil and et. al., 2014). Thefundamental purpose of firm is to exploring their business operations through satisfying theneeds and wants of people at wide area. 1.2 Background of the ResearchToday's business world has been vastly influenced through digital technologies as theseplays essential role in improving business and its operations at wide area of market. As a smallbusiness enterprises Nintex is focused on fulfilling the basic demands of people throughanalysing the market and its needs. The company was established in the year of 2006, inBellevue, United States. The company has around 50 employees who are contributing their vastefforts in developing organisational operations in order to gaining high growth and success. The1
company basically provides workflow and platform which allows users to automate corebusiness processes and operations (Chen, Heyer and et. al., 2015). The company mainly offersits solutions for automating different processes, like human resource, finance, administrationsand operations. Small and medium size business are effective for economic growth of country asthese are concern on exploring their business activities at large scale through offering variety ofproducts and services to their users as per their choices and preferences. 1.3 Significance of the ResearchThe present research is based on the implication of digital technologies on small andmedium size business enterprises. The major purpose of conducting the research is to analysingthe importance of digital equipments at work place as its implications of developingorganisational performance and productivity (Dai and et. al., 2012). Organisation faces variouskind of issues and conflicts in implementation of digital tools and technologies within workingenvironment of firm. For this firms are providing training session to their new and existingemployees in order to developing their skills and ability to work with more passion and co-ordinator. The current research is effective for developing skills and knowledge of learner atmarket place (de Araújo, and Søndergaard, 2014). Further more digital tools and technologieshelps in enhancing the production function of firm through establishing innovative ideas andtools at work place. High sales of firm shows profitable condition of firm as increasing sales offirm has a direct impact on organisational growth and success. 1.4 Research AimThis considered to be a most essential part of research dissertation as it helps inenhancing the skills of researcher on a particular research issue and provide a significantdirection in order to reaching at final result and outcome. The fundamental aim of this currentstudy is to analyse the various characteristics of digital technologies and its impact on Small andmedium size business such as Nintex. The essential aim of this particular research is toidentifying the implications of digital technologies on SME’s”. A case study on Nintex.1.5 Research ObjectiveThis can be described as the results which are sought by the researcher at the end of theresearch process, what the investigator will be able to attain at the end of the researchdissertation. These are available in the form of small statements which are needs to be closely2
related to the statement of the problem. Some essential objectives for this particular research aredescribed as below: To identify the need of digital technology in small and medium business enterprises. To examine the change on organisational performance after implementing advanceapplication at work place. To explore the scope of digital application in business operations within Nintex. To analyse the ways by which Nintex develop their business operations at market place.1.6 Research Questions This described in the form of statement which are based on specific query the investigator wantsin respect to address a research issue (Eid and El-Gohary, 2013). This section of dissertation isinterlinked with research objectives as these are prepared on the basis of problem which areassociated in the research objectives. Some important question of research are associated asbelow: What are the need of digital technology in small and medium business enterprises?Which kind of changes arises through implementing digital technologies at work place? What is the scope of digital application in business operations within Nintex? What are the ways by which Nintex develop their business operations at market place? 3
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Identifying the need of digital technology in small and medium business enterprises.Businesses now a days are increasing its operations to gain customers this is onlypossible if their demands are addressed in a constructive manner (El-Gohary, 2012). Technologyis one of the most important component of business in today's era, without it a businessorganisation can not operate in a competitive environment. The technological infrastructure thata company possess will affect various components of a business organization this includeefficiency, culture etc. As per the views stated by George Collins, 2017 There are various toolsand technologies which boosts the growth of a small and medium business and allows it growexponentially as compare to its competitors. The need of Digital technology can be described asfollows :Communication and relationship with customers : If the company carries latest toolsand digital technology environment within company, it helps company in dealing withcustomers and maintaining a healthier relationship with them over longer period of time(Hameed, Counsell and Swift, 2012). Communication with clients is also efficientlyhandled because of proper digital platforms within company which allow employees todeal with customers efficiently. Some of the ways through which they solve queries oftheir customers are social media platforms, websites internet etc (Hao, Kasper andMuehlbacher, 2012).It brings efficiency in operations : If there is proper digital technology which is beingapplied within organization it helps company in reducing cost and increasing efficiencybecause the time to complete a particular task gets reduced and company is able toallocate it somewhere else, therefore this results in efficiency in operation and it increasesoverall productivity of organization. There are various technological tools which arebeing implemented in companies it includes inventory management software which isresponsible calculation and management of inventory (Hotho and Champion, 2011).Executives are taking decisions by holding meetings on online platforms like Skype etc.Secure environment : Digital technology creates a secure environment within anorganization. The various benefits of it includes protection of financial data, decisionstaken by executives are kept confidential, computers and systems are protected with4
passwords so that its access are not available for anybody and only authorised users canhave access for the same. These are some of the benefits which gives a company withdigital environment an edge over the other competitors. Therefore,It can be said thathelps in creating an overall secure environment within organization and is very crucialfor business organization.2.2 Impact of digital technology and its impact on organisational performanceAs per the view expressed by Hutchings and Martin, 2012, Digital technology influenceperformance of an organization directly. There are various reasons why technology play a crucialrole in growth and overall development of a company. Employers compete to get fresh andcreative talent for the company, these people are responsible for creating digital technology intoa business opportunity. If a company carries an effective digital learning platform at work placeit will allow its employees to serve customers and well and responds to their queries in timelymanner which will enhance the reputation and brand image of company in the market, whichultimately will benefit company in long run. If a proper digitisation process will be followed bycompany, it will help company in managing its vast resources well and in an effective manner.An organization performs various functions like production, inventory control, customerrelationship management etc. Digital tools and technology helps in making these process muchsimpler and easier by way of reduction in cost and raising efficiency. Reduction in workinghours of employees are seen because of implementation of digital technologies withinworkplace. This has helped in reducing stress of employees and this in turns raises productivityof organization in longer run.2.3 Scope and application of digital technology in business operations of NintexNintex, is a small and medium scale business organization, which operates in softwareand information technology business. The company consistently keeps on looking for new andimproved ways to serve its customers, for this it is looking for consistent implementation of newand improved digital technologies within its organization for better and faster delivery of itsservices to its customers. As per the views of Patrick Gleeson, 2018, Digital technology helpsorganization in various ways to develop its operations, it is discussed as follows :A comprehensive communication : Radical improvement in communication is seen inrecent times, and this has only became possible by internet and various associated devicessuch as laptops and smart phones which aids companies in achieving operational5
efficiency within organization. Cloud technologies are also being used by businessorganizations worldwide for effective communication and storage of data. As there is acontinuous increase in processing speeds and storage capabilities of computers it has leadto development of new communication technologies. Emerging virtual technologies willease the way for executives, technologists etc. to make their presentations as anywhereand anytime over the globe (Ifinedo, 2011).Resource Management : Efficient Digitalised environment are changing resourcemanagement radically and also the workings of employees within organisation. Expertsare being deployed everywhere all over the world to solve problems related to work aswell as production process. Savings in Labour : Implementation of digitised environment has saved a lot of cost interms of labour spending for company. Business operations are using automation andautomated learning procedure which will help companies to perform well. Young peopleare more enthusiast for taking programming and coding as their career fields. Around 25million programmers are working globally (Schroll, and Mild, 2011). Nintex iscontinuously looking to implement automated machinery and digitization process withincompany which enables it to reduce its reliance on manual labour in terms of employeecost and inefficiency etc. 2.4 Ways to develop business operations at market placeAs per the view point of Yan, 2011, For a company to grow it has to manage and developit business operations well. What makes a MNC to stand out of other companies is its ability tooperate on a huge scale and managing and developing business operations alongside. Nintex ismedium enterprise in service sector which is continuously looking to expand its businessoperations. This can be achieved by following various ways of implementation (Nakamura,2017). These includes training new employees in procedures of company. Employees arestrength of any organization a motivated and confident workforce will result in efficiency andproductivity in overall business operation within organization. The idle time is also one of thefactor which reduces productivity and overall profitability of an organization. A company shouldlook for reducing these idle time by proper management and monitoring of processes andprocedures. If there exist some bottlenecks within processes such should be addressed at theforemost and solutions for the same should be devised. Yet another thing on which a company6
