TITLE
Equality and Diversity in the workplace. A study on Hotel Crowne Plaza.
INTRODUCTION
Overview of topic
Equality refers to aura in which all the workers are tarred equality. There will equal
opportunities to individuals for understanding and determining changes properly. Diversity refers
to the policy which employees of the association are selected from different countries, hence
they have different origin from various countries (Ali and et. al., 2017). It is not important for
people to determine and understand changes which makes operational efficiency appropriate and
determine ways to conduct operations. There will requirement of change in operations such as
providing equal opportunities through which operations will be complete and performed
properly. There is proper terms and conditions for maintaining equality and diversity in
organisation because there are some rules and regulations well.
There is completion of information because this is the best way through which operations
are conducted and performed with understanding external legal policies. This investigation is
based on Hotel Crowne Plaza which is one of the most relevant brand in hospitality industry.
This association is serving in many countries and there are many employees working. Hence
there are more possibilities of issues arising because of equality and diversity (Badran and
Khalifa, 2016).
Background of organisation
Hotel Crowne Plaza is one of the most crucial organisation working in hospitality sector
because they deal in many sector such as dinning out, accommodation, transportation, boarding
and lodging, etc. There is requirement of many workers working because of satisfaction of
consumer need. There is discrimination among workers because of unethical policies. There are
many laws and regulations which shows that there are legal policies which has to be considered.
There is dissatisfaction among workers because this is not appropriate and specific for
understanding and determining changes properly. When workers are not satisfied, then it will not
be easy for managers to make them work in better and appropriate manner (Barak, 2016).

LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review refers to the collection of information from online sources as secondary
source of information (Landy and Conte, 2016). There will ease in completing the study because
researcher will get to know about complete topic in detail. Hence in case of any issue to readers,
researcher can justify the query.
Work place discrimination issues arising in organisation
Discrimination refers to unfavourable and unequal treatment with employees because of
difference in their race, caster, colour, gender, etc. This is the major issue die to which
organisation can not attain equality and manage diversity at work place. As per view of Sarah
Benstead, 2019 There are two ways through which discrimination arise in the association i.e.
direct and indirect. In case of direct discrimination, there will imbalance in the pay scale of
workers with no reason. This makes discrimination on the basis of pay. But indirect
discrimination refers to implementation of rules and regulations of some individuals which is not
specific and appropriate for maintaining equality in the association (Maingi and Makori, 2015).
There are many issues which arise in organisation because of work place discrimination such as
age, race, caste, nationality, pregnancy, physically disability, etc. There are different issues
which are arise because of work place discrimination, some of them are discussed as under-
Age discrimination- There are discrimination in salary and pay scale of workers because
of difference in their age. There is requirement of equal pay to individuals if they are giving
equal outcome. If individuals are not paying equal remuneration because of difference in their
age, this is illegal act by Hotel Crowne Plaza.
Religious discrimination- Under this discrimination, individuals are not getting equal
treatment because of their religious values. There is no equal rights and responsibilities to
individuals if they are not getting proper treatment, then there will complete and specific
information to have issue because of religious values at Hotel Crowne Plaza.
Gender discrimination- Under this discrimination on the basis of gender. There will no
equal rights and responsibilities and provide information to individuals on the basis of gender
(McKay and Avery, 2015). There is improper distribution of income due to which they are not
able to get information properly.

Apart from this there are many other discriminations such as pregnancy based due to
which equality can not maintain in association. This is improper and non specific way to attain
goals and objectives of the Hotel Crowne Plaza.
Impact of discrimination on performance of employees at Hotel Crowne Plaza
Discrimination is one of the biggest avail for the organisation because this is the issue
which creates dissatisfaction among employees (Noe and et. al., 2017). It is important for
managers of Hotel Crowne Plaza to distribute and determine changes properly. It is important
and relevant for people to determine best way to make operations in better and effective manner.
With change in business activities, there will change in activities of employees as well. There
will negative impact on performance of employees because they are not satisfied and doers not
want to retain in the association. As per view of Tia Benjamin, 2019 there will direct impact on
perform of association because they are not getting changes properly. With change in activities
and does not making proper and equal treatment with employees, then they will not perform
activities properly.
Less collaboration- There is less collaboration among employees and managers of Hotel
Crowne Plaza because when employees are not getting proper services, then they also dies not
want to take care of aim and objectives of association. With change in business activities, it will
not be easy for managers to complete it, if they are not treated with equality. If managers wants
to frame team and motivate them, then it will be tough for them because it is not possible to
guide and monitor them because of difference in treating them. Hence with improper behaviour,
their will improper and irrelevant ways to analyse it (Perry, Engbers and Jun, 2017).
Less flexibility- There is less flexibility in the organisation because terms and conditions
for workers are rigid. This give negative impact on performance of Hotel Crowne Plaza because
there is difference in demand of consumers, so it will not be possible for them to understand and
evaluate changes properly. There will completion of information, then it is not proper for
managers to determine the ways to fulfil the demand of consumers.
High labour turnover rate- Labour turnover rate at Hotel Crowne Plaza will high
because if employees are not treated properly and it is not possible to retain them for longer time,
then it affects operations in negative manner. With change in business activities, there will
improper treatment with them because of work place diversity. Hence this is not specific and

relevant for understanding it. If employees are leaving organisation frequently, then it will not
easy to maintain good image in the hospitality industry (Riccucci, 2018).
Above mentioned issues gives negative impact on growth and development of association
because there is dissatisfaction among employees. There will completion of information about
understanding and determining values of maintaining equality and perform operations in proper
manner.
Strategies with which work place discrimination can be minimised
There will complete and specific information to managers of Hotel Crowne Plaza
regarding mindset of workers., hence in case of discrimination it will not be easy for people to
determine and understand changes properly. According to Joanna Weekes, 2019 When there is
change in operations of the association, they can complete the task and makes changes in proper
manner. There must be use of some strategies with which possibilities of discrimination in
organisation can be minimised. Some strategies are as under-
Education among workers- There must be proper communication among workers to
understand and determine changes properly. It is important for people to determine and
understand changes properly. With change in business operations, there will ease in completing
the task and performing activities in ethical and appropriate manner. Workers of Hotel Crowne
Plaza are aware about working style, then in case of many issue, they must communicate to top
level managers (Sharma, 2016).
Regular communication- There must be regular communication with employee of
association, so it will be easy for managers to understand and evaluate changes properly. It is
important and significant for people to evaluate and determine changes, so it is easy for people to
determine policies properly. With regular communication, mindset of workers can be known and
then farming policies for their betterment.
Formation of committee- There must be a committee which is working in order to
maintain long term relations with organisation. In order to evaluate and determine changes in
operations of employees, it will be easy for managers to communicate about policies properly. If
there is any unethical activity in the organisation, then they can communicate to this committee
and then in- depth investigation is possible. But main component of forming this committee is
individuals must be im- bias and impartial (Triana, Jayasinghe and Pieper, 2015).

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology is important chapter of research because in this there will
discussion about tools and techniques which are used to complete the study. There is use of
different tools which makes proper completion of study in authentic manner. In order to use
complete this investigation, there is proper justification in completing it.
The best Research philosophy for completing this investigation is pragmatist because this
provides a reasonable way to complete the study. There will no confusion regarding use of
certain policies for completing the task (Vasconcelos, 2015).
Deductive approach is best for this study because this covers all the information which
might affects decision of research regarding equality and diversity. There will more emphasise of
practical presentation of information which assist in determining changes properly.
For completing and making research in systematic manner, there will use of qualitative
method. This is the method through which presentation is in graph format but it is done in
appropriate and specific manner. There will no requirement of any technical knowledge for
representing it. Hence researcher can easily evaluate and shoe view about equality and diversity.
Descriptive research design will be used because this is the best format to complete the
study and conduct activities properly. There is requirement of information about reader that how
this particular statement is affecting outcome of study.
For collecting information, there will use of both method i.e. primary and secondary
because this is the best way through which activities will be conducted properly. Primary
information is collected with one to one interaction with respondents. But secondary data is
collected from sources which is already collected by others (Wrench, 2016). It is important and
specific for researcher to determine and evaluate changes in views of respondents because this
affects research outcome as conclusion and recommendations accordingly. While collecting
primary information, respondents have to be selected who have complete information about
equality and diversity. Hence for collecting primary information, questionnaire is used and it is
filed by employees because they have complete knowledge about it. While collecting secondary
information, date and name of authorise are considered because information is collected from
secondary sources. With collecting information from both sources, more relevant and specific
information can be collected and justification behind it can be provided.

Simple random sampling is selected for collecting information from 50 employees. As
per this method, there is no partially in selecting employees. There will random selection of
workers, so it will be easy for justify interpretations (Ali and et. al., 2017).
Lastly, there is discussion about ethical consideration and validity of the study. In this
study, information collected and provided are reliable because it is collected from authentic
sources. Respondents for primary information is employees who are aware about policies of
equality and diversity. Hence reader can rely over this information.
