INTRODUCTION
Room division management comprises or undertakes various departments and personnel
essentials for providing appropriate services to guest. The expectation during hotel stay and
room divisions aids to enhance customers satisfaction and it support management to earn more
revenue that increase organisation profits. In the present scenario, modern era of hospitality
business is not a simple task for manager. This refers a wide ranges of factors that are required to
consider process of management. Intercontinental hotel is selected as an organisation which is a
UK based international chain of hotel (Chevers and Spencer, 2017). The selected organisation is
one of the leading hotel companies that manage it's hotel in different geographical locations.
After analyses of Inter-continental hotels this is identified that approximately more than 5,500
hotels and 800000 rooms of hotel are under the brand name of Intercontinental which is
managed and owned by Intercontinental hotel group plc. Moreover, this report highlights on key
sub departments of room division operation management and also on roles & responsibilities of
two rooms division positions. In the last, legal and statutory regulations within hotel operations
management are also included in the upcoming report.
MAIN BODY
Knowledge and understanding about key sub department of rooms division operations
management
This is expressed that front office and housekeeping department aids to perform all work
in an organised manner by managing all services in an appropriate manner. With the analyse of
current hospitality requirement management express an important segment which include
different areas such as bell service, concierge and many more. The main role of reception is to
offer various customer services that is directed towards enhance of degree related with customer
service by performing all work in an appropriate manner (Choi, Wallace and Wang, 2018).
Along with this front office aids to perform all task through understand reception role that
provide and increase number of guest in hotels by offering appropriate services. In the context of
Intercontinental hotel front office delegate work according to types of guest. Some roles of the
Front office are mention as follow:
Reservation- Management of booking calls that includes free individuals traveller, or
classes to manage and retain a reservation. With handling of all booking request with

other means such as Fax, e-mail etc. to control and maintain reservation rack. Booking
rates and close out date are the main responsibilities of reservation department of
Intercontinental hotels.
Reception- This is one of the most important critical part because it is in constant touch
with guest. Reception workers perform all task that welcome visitor in hotels from their
arrival to departure. Full formalities for pre-registration is also managed by individuals
who perform their job role at reception. Intercontinental hotel receptionist understand
about type of customers for offering room according to their needs (Ivanov and Webster,
2019). All formalities related with government and it's execution is also controlled at
reception.
Bell Desk- It is recognised as an important section of the hospitality organisation as bell
boys are the first staff who interact with guest. All the process of reaching a customer
from the arrival period till it's stay and departure is managed by bell boy to offer
appropriate services.
Housekeeping Department
Lost and found- This store all items that is left by guest and it directly communicates
with front office desk. There are different guest tends towards enquire about all products
which is related with visitor. On the other side, this also helps to understand about
individual role.
Laundry area- House-keeping department explain storage area and it include washing,
dry-cleaning, washing and ironing of guest clothes. This also provide clean rooms by
cleaning all products of intercontinental hotel. It also improve image of organisation in
the hospitality industry through providing clean room and quick services to customers.
With understand of above department roles related with front-office and house-keeping
department aids towards completion of all work in an appropriate manner. This refers
Intercontinental hotel manage their work with understand of company operations (Ivanov, 2015).
Moreover, accommodation of guest is also improved through managing all work in an
appropriate manner through analyse work methods of house-keeping and front-office services.
Roles and responsibilities of front-office and house-keeping individuals
The room division perform their task or duties through directly supervise work aspects of
front-office manager and executive housekeeper to manage all work in an organised manner.
