WHSM Core Elements for Pitstop Pty Ltd
Core Element 1: Workplace Obligations for Employer and Employees
Keeping a workplace safe and secure for the employees as well as other persons present in
the premises is a continuous process with obligatory cautiousness. In order to keep a safe and
secure workplace environment both employers and employees have to comply with their
duties and responsibilities in every day and every hour. The purpose of this core element is to
present the continuous duties, roles and responsibilities for the employer and employees of
Pitstop Pty Ltd Company.
Core Element 2: Health and Safety Audit and Record Keeping System
According to AS/NZS 4804:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems
General guidelines on principles, systems and supporting techniques, it order to maintain a
safe and hazard free work environment it is the responsibility of the employer to conduct an
inspection and record keeping operations to identify potential risks as hazards to mitigate
risks accordingly. This procedure is known as health and safety audit, and the purpose of this
core element of WHS policy is to present the compulsory work procedures to conduct health
and safety audit with risk assessment and record keeping while involving essential
stakeholder in this process.
Core Element 3: Education and Training
In order to comply with the workplace health and safety both the ground level and
management level employees require foundation level understanding and knowledge about
workplace health and safety concerns, procedures, regulations and obligations. Therefore, for
Pitstop Pty Ltd where most of the employees are educated at high school level require
education and training on both workplace health and safety related regulations as well as on
organisational health and safety related policies and procedures. The purpose of this core is to

present the training and development procedures including responsible stakeholders and
resources.
Core Element 3: Emergency Procedures
Emergency procedure is required as a preventive action plan module for any potential
emergency situation such as hazardous incident, fire, act of violence and other associated
emergencies. The emergency procedures for Pitstop faced some changes to incorporate more
efficient emergency response and contingency activities.
Core Element 4: Bullying, Harassment and Sexual harassment policies
The company already has policies about bullying and harassment and there is no such reports
regarding this type of violation or non-compliance. Hence, these policies remain almost
unchanged.
Core Element 5: WHS implementation system
As per the AS/NZS 4804:2001 Occupational health and safety management systems General
guidelines on principles, systems and supporting techniques every workplace needs a
systematic change implementation module through which required changes can be made
under proper monitoring, control and supervision in order to mitigate the future risks related
workplace health and safety.
Core Element 6: Safe Handling and PPE
As Pitstop Pty Ltd deals with fuel equipment, chemicals as well as food product and
beverages, the company needs a strong safe handing regulations for the employees as well as
customers to reduce number of hazardous incidents. The purpose of this core element is to
make some major alteration in current safe handling procedure with the incorporation of
Personal Protective Equipment.
