INTRODUCTION
It is very important for a person to continuously work on their skills and capability as this
will support in increasing the performance of a person. There are different method that will help
a person in self development process (Halberstadt and et.al., 2019). It is essential for an
individual to increase the ability and potential in order to achieve their personal as well as
professional goals. Portfolio includes different types of documents that is crucial for a perform
development and improvements. This report will includes several kind of documents that is
essential for creating portfolio. In this different materials which is generated through class or
independent study.
MAIN BODY
Documents
There are different types of document which could be used in portfolio. These documents are
mention below in detail.
1. Academic writing – This can be describe as the writing done a person or student in order
to full fill the requirement of university or college. Academic writing is one of the crucial
skill and knowledge that is required by a person in order to improve their knowledge as
well as gain better marks. There are various skills that is crucial for effective academic
writing such as communication skills, presentation skills, learning and understanding
capability and so on.
2. Citing sources - There are different types of citing sources that is useful for in text
citation in documents. It is important for a student to have proper information about
citing sources as this will help in presenting information in better manner. There are
various sources which will support learner in making data more authentic as well as
accurate (Grubb and et.al., 2019). In different types of citation styles there are different
rules regarding citing the sources. The citing sources are used in order to separate the
citation with the help in semicolons. Citing sources includes APA, MLA, Harvard,
Chicago and so on. All of these sources have different types of in text citing.
3. Evaluating sources – Evaluating sources can be describe as all those sources that is used
by student in order to analyse and identify the appropriate source. This is very effective
and efficient in identifying the best sources which is helpful for providing more accurate

information. In this types of sources it is crucial to collect timeliness of the information
along with the reliability of information. By evaluating sources, learner will be able to
identify the purpose of information that exist as well as able to provide more truthfulness
in the information.
4. Reading skills – This type of skill can be describe as the ability of a person to text the
text in proper and accurate manner. reading skill is one of the crucial skill that is required
by a person to identify and understand the written message or information more clearly.
Comprehension is considered as the ultimate goal of reading (Englund and Graham,
2019). This type of skill includes alphabetic knowledge, strong vocabulary, fluency as
well as comprehension. It is crucial for student and learner to have reading skill as this
will essential for develop their personality along with this accomplishment of desired
goals. Strong reading skill support in improvement in communication skills.
5. Presentation skills – Presentation skill refer as the skill of individual in which they are
able to convey their thoughts and idea in better or clear manner. It is very important for
student and employee to have high presentation skills. For a student this skill will help in
gaining better grades in academic study. Where as for employees, presentation skills are
supportive in giving effective presentation which is able to transfer appropriate
information to required person. This can be consider as crucial for a person as this will
developing image by provide creative as well as innovative presentations.
6. Research skills – It is crucial for a person to have high research skill. This type of skills
are very useful in providing appropriate information and data in order to take better
decision. There are different types of sources though which a person can collect and
gather data. Research skill is very useful in determining which source is most appropriate
as well as accurate in providing required information (Convery and et.al., 2019). A
person which high research skill is able to assemble more correct and reliable data which
is gather from right source of information. This skill is crucial for taking better decision
as well as conducting an effective research.
7. Introduction – This can be describe as the starting of any topic and this will include the
summary regarding each and every aspect of the project. Introduction is very crucial part
of a any report or assessment as this will consist information about the whole report.
There are different elements that is includes in introduction of the report writing such as

reason of creating report, topic on which report is developed, various aspects that is
discussed in the report and so on. It is required the introduction of any topic is very
creative and innovative as this will assist in influencing targeted audience towards the
whole project.
8. Conclusion - This refer as the end part of any topic and conclusion will summaries that
all details that is analysed in the report. It is crucial to conclude the whole report or
project in creative manner as this is the last part. In this the complete report or project is
evaluated as well as different important aspects that is understand in the report in
mention. Conclusion is very useful in summarising the whole content in innovative and
informative manner. it is crucial that targeted audience will be able to make a judgement
on the topic through the understanding of conclusion.
9. Data collection method - There are different methods that can be use by researcher in
order to collect and gather more appropriate data. Methods of data collection is very
useful in gathering more accurate and required information as per the requirement of
topic. There are several ways of data collection which can be classified into two parts
such as primary and secondary method (Grubb and et.al., 2019). Both of these are very
useful method of gather correct information. In primary method, researcher is able to gain
original and fresh information as per the requirement where as in secondary method of
data collection researcher will use information which is already used and collected
through primary method.
10. Reflection/ reflective learning – This can be describe as the learning of a person that can
be done through reflection. Reflective learning is one of the effective and appropriate
way through which learner will be able to understand and analyse their learning as well
as perform better. There are different models and framework that can be used by a learner
in order to increase their understanding about the topic. In this model a person is able to
think about the different aspects that is read,, learned, done, performed as well as related
to the lesson or material generated.
11. Self-development study – It is crucial for a learner to develop self capability and skills.
Self development study in very important for increasing potential as well as skills of a
person that is essential for attaining desired goals. Self development study can be

describe as the process in which a person will identify and analyse different skills and
attributed that needs to be learned and developed. In this study a person will identify and
analyse self strength and weakness as well as focus in developing those areas which
needs to be improved by a person.
12. Applying knowledge and transferring skills – It is crucial for a person to apply
knowledge and understand in order to conduct task and activity in better and effective
manner (Schonert-Reichl, 2019). there are different skills that will support a employee in
application of knowledge as well as transferring it to necessary person. This skill of a
person will help in conducting task and activity in better and effective manner. While
working in organisation, employee have to enhance their skills and competencies which
is as per the required of business. These skills can be transferred from one person to
other person as well as applying this knowledge in performance of task will support in
accomplishing desired targets.
Materials used to populate the Portfolio
There are several materials and tool that is required by a person in order to gain better
knowledge and understanding about the topic. Portfolio is very supportive in collection of
different types of material in at place. This will help in keeping record of all necessary and
important information that is useful for studying. There are several kinds of material provided by
teacher in a class which will assist in better understanding of the topics as well as enhancing
knowledge. Materials which is collected through class includes books, teachers notes,
documents, paper, presentation, assessments and so on (Lyu and et.al., 2019). All of these are
very important as this will help a student in understanding the concept clearly as well as increase
their learning about the topic. It has been determined that learner use and develop different
material from their independent study. When a person is learning through independent study,
they use different types of tools and techniques which will support in increasing understanding
and information about the topic. In this types of learning material, all of the material is developed
by learner with the support of different tools and techniques. Leader can be reflective learning
approach, self developed notes, online information and so on. Material that is generated through
independent study is effective in accomplishment of goals and objective. From all of the
different kind of material I chose E- portfolio. This can be describe as the ways or technique in

which a person or student in collecting different types of documents for studying and gaining
information. In E- Portfolio, electronic device and media is used which will help in assembling
as well as correctly managing different types of important information and documents (Williams
and Karen, R., 2019). This consist of input text, electronic files, multimedia, images, videos,
presentation, blog entities, articles, hyperlinks and many more. E- portfolio is considered as an
incredible tool or approaches that is used for higher education students. There are various
benefits and advantages that can be gain by a student by properly maintaining E- portfolio. This
is beneficial for student in recognising the learning activates as well as recording learning in
appropriate manner. Electronic platform of portfolio is supportive to students in keeping a track
of all type of document and information. This will includes material that is generated through
class as well as created through independent study of learner. In this types of material a student is
able to reflect on their learning and it is helpful in determining the actual learning of a students.
With the help of E- portfolio a student will be able to effectively plan for their new learning
activities as well as focus on accomplishment of desired goals and objectives. This is very useful
for learner for assessing the learner in proper manner as well as increasing the learning capability
of individual.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concludes that there are different types of tools and
approaches that can be use by leaner in order to increase their capability and performance. There
are different types of documents that is includes in portfolios such as academic writing,
evaluating sources, reflective learner, data collection methods and so on. Apart form this it is
determined that E- portfolios is very beneficial for a learner.
