INTRODUCTIONThis assignment is based on implementing the reading skills in a concise and criticalmanner. Herein two texts will be included such as Martin Luther King speech ‘I have a Dream’and Equality and Diversity policy of the British Library (Crystal and Davy, 2016). Alongside, itwill consist of an outline on the different uses of English language.TASK 1 CRITICAL READINGText 1: Martin Luther King speech ‘I have a Dream’Key Facts- This is one of the historical speeches of the twentieth century. It was delivered toaround 250000 supporters of the Civil Rights Movement. It was given in the honour of theAbraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, however its date was coincided with the 100 years ofthe Emancipation Proclamation. President J.F.Kennedy proposed this march for showing masssupport to the African American community in the areas of job and freedom from hypocrisyshowed towards this community people (Cooke, 2016).Main Argument- Its focus was on to provide the platform for bringing equality when comparedwith the white Americans. It shed light on the need of capturing the necessities for change andgiving a fair treatment to all the African American people (Cone, 2018). Along with this, therewas the need for bridging the gaps between the reality and the dream to establish democracy.There was struggle for maintaining the balance between the whites and blacks in the Americansociety which was base on horrific Bias- This speech was critiqued by eminent personalities that shed light on the impact of thisspeech in that era. There were several responses which compared him with Mahatma Gandhi andAbraham Lincoln. According to an article written by Mary of the Boston Globe, it was in theright tome to break free the blacks from the clutches of the racism which brought only adversitiesand hardships. His speech not only moved the crowd but brought people in tears who withstoodwith this apathy (Ling, 2015). In addition, Los Angeles Times described about this speech as thematchless eloquence of bravery and valour shown by King Junior and brought the entire worldtowards the sixty years of struggle of civil rights movement. However, on the other hand, theFederal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) rejected this speech on the lines of bringing sea ofnegative emotions. Their response included that it provoked the African American people in themost violent ways.1

Text 2: Equality and Diversity policy of the British LibraryKey Facts- This includes purpose, definition of equality and diversity, scope, policy statement,library policies and more. This is a group of key features to generate awareness among thetaskforce about the British Library's approach to diversity and equality as well (Pateman andVincent, 2016). It also contains definitions of equality and diversity which are interdependentand must be made understandable at organizational levels.Main Argument- It shed light on the British Library norms and policies in terms of establishing arobust framework to avoid any sort of discrimination or complaints. Moreover, it projected thesignificance of responsibility through employing list of policies. It is demonstrated that corporatesocial responsibility is an essential tool to bring a work life balance. It gives a coherentframework which implemented and outlined the roles and responsibilities at the organizationallevels at both small and large scales and has been adopted by all corporations.Bias- There is no evidence of bias as it is a legislative statement under the government of Britishlibrary. This consisted of policies to monitor and review the training and bridge thecommunication gaps. Thus, it is used by all the organisations and institutions to bring anatmosphere of dignity and respect and foster humanity.TASK 2 DIFFERENT USES OF ENGLISH LANGUAGEText 1: Martin Luther King speech ‘I have a Dream’- This speech was a beautiful mixture ofseveral forms used in the English language. There were three rhetorical types and consisted ofvoice merging, dynamic spectacle and prophetic voice. Repetition was also used to emphasizedon the need of bringing this urgent attention of the world through the sentence “I have a dream”.It was repeated for eight times and in the most dramatic manner to demonstrate the urgency(Myers, 2015). King remarkably described his fears, insecurities and worries through phraseslike “one hundred years later”, “let freedom ring” and “free at last”. Its motive has been fulfilled by using a strong opening and closingstatements that gave the complete information about the policies and legislative framework.Moreover, it has a list of acts which clearly inform about the existing policies followed by theemployees working in organizations (Martinsson and Griffin, 2016).
