INTRODUCTION
Developing manager is an essential part of every company. Developing managers helps
in the development of the team and provides information about the changes occurring in the
external environment (Savelsbergh, Havermans and Storm, 2016). Developing manager guides
the company to innovate and create new products and services by using new technologies in the
production process. Developing manager is responsible to understand the change and
development in the outside world and implement in the company to achieve goals. Present report
is based on Clayton Crown Hotel London. It is a luxury hotel under the brand of Dalata hotel
groups. It is famous for its unique offerings and warm welcoming atmosphere. Report will
contain the comparison of management style used by 2 hotels, leadership style and
characteristics. In addition to it, report also contains the communication process of Clayton
Crown Hotel, changes occurred in the business and their organisation culture. Report will also
review own potential as a manager, its skills, SWOT, how they make objectives in developing
their own potential. Further report will also show managerial skills which is used to achieve
organisation goals, how managerial decisions support the achievement of goals and objective.
Lastly report will contain that how managerial and personal skills helps in career development
and reviewing the current and future performance in making development plan

1.1 Different management styles
Management styles is a style used by leader to handle employees. Every organisation
follows some kind of management styles. Management styles is adopted by the company to
motivate employees and enhance their performance by providing training so that they work
towards achieving goals and objectives (McCaughan, 2018). There are different management
styles used by the companies are autocratic, consultative, persuasive, democratic, Laissez-faire
and management by walking around. To deal with various problems Rosewood London hotel
and Hilton hotel uses different management styles in different situations:

this, leader give chance to all the staff members to participate and exchange ideas and knowledge
so that best decision can be make. Here power of decision making is with leader, but leader
consider all the ideas and strategies while making the decision. It is the most effective style
where leader is flexible in adopting new ideas (Donaldson-Feilder Lewis and Yarker, 2019). It is
beneficial for staff of Clayton Crown Hotel because it boosts team involvement, participation
and engagement. There are carious characteristics of participative leader which are as follows: Innovation: Clayton Crown Hotel manager has innovation characteristics. Using one of
the best idea in decision making leads to innovation. This type of leader supports
innovation. This is beneficial in increasing productivity and generate revenue. Inner values: Clayton Crown Hotel manager creates value for employees by
encouraging them to give their ideas, improve experience in the business, work in a team
and coordinate with each other. By doing this employee feel values and have interest to
work in the organisation to achieve goals. Vision: Clayton Crown Hotel manager create a vision to increase customer base and
communicating it with staff so that they can turn it into reality. Hence achieving goals
and increase productivity (Laufer and et.al., 2015). Encourage motivation: Clayton Crown Hotel manager motivates employees to add
creativity in their workplace so that quality and standards are maintained. Manager
motivates employees by giving various rewards and appreciation for their hard work and
also by promoting them to higher level. This type of leader has enthusiasm.
Inspiration: This type of leader inspires people. Leaders using participative style are
flexible and ready to accept change and ideas. This characteristic motivates employee to
become like their leader. These leaders always provide inspiration to the staff of Clayton
Crown Hotel so that they perform better.
1.3 Communication process
Communication is the process of exchanging information, ideas and facts between
different levels of management. It develops relation between different levels. It is necessary to
communicate in order to achieve goals and objectives (Sander and Caza, 2015).
Process of communication:

Sender: A person who generates the information or idea is called sender. The origin of
communication process is from sender only. Sender has the information which he
transfers to the receiver by various ways (Communication process, 2019.).
Message: Message is considered as the information which is sent in the form of oral or
written or pictures form. It is the information which sender wants to send. It is most
important part of communication.
Encoding: It is a process of transferring the message in proper medium such as non-
verbal, verbal, pictorial according to the situation and time. Sender puts symbols, words
and pictures in the message which is to be communicated to the receiver (Ensari, Lopez
and Shackelford, 2017).
Channel: It refers to the mode through which message will be transmitted. The channel
links the sender and receiver. Message can be transferred through telephone, computer,
apps and television.
Receiver: The person who receives the message is called receiver. Receiver can be
viewer, listener or a reader. If receiver neglect a part of message, then communication
will be ineffective.
Decoding: After receiving the message the receiver converts the message into simple
language so that it can be understand.
Feedback: It is the last stage of communication process. After understanding the
message, receiver give response of message sent by sender. It is necessary to provide
feedback so that sender know that the message is reached effectively (Hope, 2016).

Clayton Crown Hotel uses vertical communication, it is a process where information is
transferred among different levels of the organisation. Here information is transferred between
subordinates to superior. It is beneficial for company to direct staff of hotels, it helps in
motivating employees and company can also find employee satisfaction towards their job.
Clayton Crown Hotel uses verbal communication and share information to its staff both by
written and spoken form. Manager of hotel give presentation to staff so that they get to know
about the hotel and business operations.
Barriers to communication:
The most important barrier in the hotel industry is language. People come from different
regions, countries and all follow different culture and languages. Staff of hotel does not know all
the languages; it becomes difficult for them to communicate. This barrier will make guests
unsatisfied (Gordon, 2018).
1.4 Organisation culture and change
Organisation culture is set of beliefs and values which an organisation possesses. Culture
of the organisation affects internal environment of the organisation. It is important to maintain a
healthy and good working environment so that employees perform better in order to achieve
goals. There are many employees working in the company, each of them has different behaviour
and attitudes thus organisation culture is necessary to keep them together. There are various
kinds of culture such as task, role, person culture etc. Task culture focuses on task only. Role
culture emphases on allotting work to person asper their capabilities. Personal culture is another
organisational culture where person thinks own self superior.

Culture of Clayton Crown Hotel is a clam culture where manager of hotel provides
guidance to the staff and make employees feel that they are part of the family. This type of
culture increases employee engagement and help them perform better so that customers are
satisfied. Hotels using this culture focuses on achieving common goal by coordinating with each
other. In hotels staff and managers need to be polite and kind while talking and welcoming the
guest. It makes customer happy and may visit again (Freeman and et.al., 2016).
There are various changes that impact organisational culture: Technological change: Due to change in technologies, organisation need to change their
process, strategies and structures. Clayton Crown Hotel need to adopt new technologies
because preference of customers is also changing. Customers are using applications to
navigate their stay so company need to build their app and train employees to use the app
and attract customers. Technology is playing important role in changing the hospitality
industry. Social media also influence industry to change its process of marketing
(Chavez, 2017). Demographic change: It is one of the major factor that changes the working of the
industry. Nowadays young generation prefer different destination to go on a vacation.
Today's generation need gaming zone, swimming pool, good view and good ambience
thus Clayton Crown Hotel need to provide all these things to attract customers.
Economic changes: Change in the price of products and services due to fluctuation in
inflation rate affects the customer behaviour. High price will stop customers to spend
their earnings hence they will choose different destinations. If government increases the
tax than customer will think before booking a hotel.
TASK 2
2.1 Own management skills performance and evaluation
There are various skills which is required by the manager to achieve organisational goals.
As I am Assistant Duty manager of Clayton Crown Hotel I have following skills: Time management: Every manager need to consider time while doing its work. It helps
managers to divide the task according to the time (Narayanan, 2018). If this skill is not
proper in the hotel industry than it has a negative impact on customers. I manage to do
my work according to the given time. I give priority to managing my time because it
helps me to finish my work on time. It helps in flexibility in operations. I also take

feedbacks from my employees and customers so that I can improve myself. I evaluate my
time management by dividing time to every task and then evaluating my performance
according to the time given to each task. Problem solving: Every manager need to have problem solving skills so that good
environment can be maintained. Manager is responsible to solve conflicts between
employees and make group them so that they coordinate with each other. I can identify
the problem faced by employees but I face difficulty in solving the problems. Sometimes
I face the problem and solve them by using different strategies. I have poor analytical
skills that is the reason I am not able to solve problems sometimes (Deveau and McGill,
2016). I need to improve my analytical skills to perform better. Problem solving is an
essential skill which every manager should possess. I evaluate my problem solving skills
by asking problems of employees, try to understand it and solve problems of employees.
Through this I can evaluate my problem solving skills. Communication skills: Manager need to communicate with its employees. It is very
important to communicate with the employees about the company and any changes which
may occur. Employees need to be ready for change. I have good communication skills
and I can understand my staff better. I am good in both verbal and written
communication. Communication skills helps me in encouraging employees and motivate
them to work towards achieving goals (Onnis and et.al., 2019). I evaluate my
communication skills by taking feedback from my staff and ask whether they understand
clearly.
Motivation skills: Every manager need to possess motivation skills to increase the
performance of employees. Manager is responsible for motivating employees and
encouraging them. I have good motivation skills. I evaluate performance of employees on
the basis of their performance and give rewards, promotion and appreciation for their
hard work. I also provide feedback to employees who are not able to cope up with others.
I motivate them by providing training sessions so that their skills can be improved and
they perform better. I evaluate my motivation skills by analysing actual and expected
performance of the employees.

2.2 Own SWOT analyses
Swot analyses is considered as most effective tool that helps in analysing strength,
weakness, opportunities sand threats of the company and a person as well. I am working as
deputy manager in the firm, my own SWOT analyses is illustrated as below:
Strength
Communication: I am a good communicator; I can easily coordinate with other people
(Rauter, Jonker and Baumgartner, 2017). This skill of mine always help me to complete
my task on time and minimise confusion as well. My written and verbal both skills are
good, whenever I have to mail my peer group members and juniors I can mail it in easy
and understandable language. This supports me in minimising workplace confusion and
developing bonding with people.
Critical thinking skill: My critical thinking ability is my strong point, as whenever I face
complexity I evaluate the situation and accordingly make decision which support me
taking practical judgements for the growth of business unit. Managerial skill: I can manage people well, I motivate them and can make them positive
towards their duties. That is why I have many friends and I can build relationship with
any third person.
Weakness
Presentation skill: My presentation skill is very bad I cannot present myself. As my
confidence is very low whenever I stand in stage I feel so nervous. That is the reason that
I fail to present myself easily (Cregård, Forsberg and Berntson, 2018). If I improve
mythis skill then I would be able to get higher position which will be beneficial for my
career development. Technical skill: I have poor knowledge about latest software even I can operate only
limited software which sometimes create problem in completing my task effectively.
Opportunities
Globalisation: It is the great opportunity for me because I can get new jobs across the
world.
Advance technologies: This can give me opportunity as I would be able to use internet
and other equipment’s which will help me in improving my knowledge.

Innovation in services: Clayton Crown Hotel has an opportunity to innovate its services
by implementing smart gadgets and digitalization.
Threats
High competition: this is the biggest challenge for me due to high competition I would
find difficulty in getting the right opportunities (Savelsbergh, Havermans and Storm,
2016).
Change in economic condition: Clayton Crown Hotel may faces threat of change in the
economic condition such as fluctuation in interest rate, tax rate, inflation rate which may
affect the purchasing power of customers.
2.3 Set objectives and target for development
I feel that I have to work on some skills in order to get more opportunities in my future. I
have to develop my presentation skill within 2 months. If I develop this skill of mine, then I
would be able to become a good manager which will be helpful for me in getting the right
opportunities and proving myself as a good manager. To improve my presentation skills I will
join coaching classes. This will benefit me in comfortably present my ideas in from of hotel staff.
I have to improve my technical skill within 1 month, if I improve my technical skill then it
would be able to get more opportunities (McCaughan, 2018). To improve my technical skills I
will try to learn digitalisation, smart gadgets, this will benefit me in managing the hotel
management.
TASK 3
3.1 Motivate team to accomplish goal and objectives.
Motivation is a process through which employees get encouraged with performance
appraisal, providing them rewards, incentives and built their confidence so they can perform well
to achieve organisation goals. There are various ways to motivate team which are as follows.
Tuckman theory and belbin theory is beneficial for motivating team. Tuckman theory is used to
develop team. It benefits team to complete its task effectively and efficiently. This theory
involves 5 stages i.e. Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing and Adjourning. First and second
stages of this theory focus on development of team. Third and fourth stage of the theory mainly
focus on task completion.
Belbin theory focuses on the talents and different personalities within the team. This
theory is designed to utilize the talents of team members to improve the performance of team as

a whole. This theory benefits Clayton Crown Hotel in motivating their staff and improve their
performance.
Communicate with the employees- Communication is the only key through which
employees get coordinate within the organisation and also feels motivation. Clayton crown Hotel
necessarily communicate within the employees of their Hotel, It helps to achieve the
development of new ideas, views and point of view of the employees towards the decision
making of the organisation. Constant flow of communication ultimately leads to the positive
impact on the business of the organisation (Bharwani and Talib, 2017). Mangers of the Clayton
crown Hotel can be available to contact and easy to approachable in their attitude of the
communication. It will make employees feel more involved in the business and operations which
makes them to motivate and reach better results
Setting goals by sharing vision- It is the responsibility of the managers of Clayton
crown Hotel to make aware the employees of their organisation about the vision and goals and
objectives of the business, also set Clear as well as measurable goals which can frame this vision
of mangers and team members to track the progress and able to realize their success in more
tangible sense and this will increase the productivity and feels the employees valued and
motivated.
Appreciation of the employees- Employees of the Clayton crown hotel can get
appreciation for their effective performance. When employees get the appreciation they do extra
efforts and also do outstanding working to realize the organisation that they are perfect for the
organisation. It helps to motivate the employees and also assist to create the loyalty of the
employees towards the organisation (Cha and et.al., 2017).
Provide opportunity for development- Team members of the hotel Clayton crown can
feels more valuable when they get to learn as well enhancing their skills. To motivate them there
is a need to provide opportunities for growth as well as development of the organisation. For this
focus on training, setting goals and also teaching them about the transferable skills also that
employees used in various positions and promote themselves for the learning goals.

It is very important for the mangers to take appropriate decisions to achieve organisation

beneficial for the organisation as less conflicts and confusion will occur and people work there

Shackelford, 2017). Leaders are well known aware both in terms of verbal and in written form .
They are always available to send the message more clear and share on valuable way and helps
to develop profits and results to manage targets and also impressive results within the
organisation. In addition to this, the organisation can match their activities with goals to achieve
the requirement of the customers.As consequences of that their profit can easily be enhanced at
the organisation which meet the requirements of the clients.

Explanation- From the above analysis it is found that I have to work on my technical
skills as I have less understanding in the technical tools but for better results I have to work on
various activities to develop my carrier growth, also I am weak in the presentation skills as I
have lack of confidence to stand in front of the people and deliver my words, I feel shy and fear
as well. Carrier development will only be possible if our personal development is possible
(Chavez, 2017). Clayton Crown hotel makes their employees to increase their skills and also
develop the personal development towards the organisation.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded that the managers of the Clayton Crown hotel adopt
the various styles and management practices, to achieve the goal and objections of the
organisation. Managers leads to increase the production and the profitability within the
organisation. Participative leadership beneficial for the company as applying such kinds of
leaders brings innovate ideas from the people working within an organisation which ultimately
brings the positiveness at the organisation. Leaders have to understand the requirements of the
employees and have the appropriate measured to solve their problems.
