INTRODUCTION
Employability Skills is defines as transferable skills that an every individual need to make
him/her employable. These includes communication, team work, learning ability, problem solving,
self management etc. Travelodge hotel is the private limited company which comes under
hospitality sector, whose number of employees are more than 6000 and the company is facing high
turnover. The report includes different strategies such as organising development programs etc.
which help to reduce turnover. Marketing manager have planned different roles for him which helps
him to reach at desired objectives such as personal, direct/indirect etc. The report includes different
ways of communication such as verbal, non-verbal etc. which marketing manager to communicate
problem faced by the Travelodge hotel.
TASK 1
1.1 Roles and responsibilities of the individual when he/she is entering into any organisation and
different objectives.
There are different responsibilities that an employee need to achieve while entering into the
organisation. Employee needs to perform various responsibilities so that a company can work
successfully. Among these some responsibilities are formal and easy to understand while others are
difficult and enact. After understanding different responsibilities, it helps employees to meet their
goals in all the department. It makes business environment safe for employee so that they produce
quality goods for the company. Different responsibilities are as follows:
Personal responsibilities: As a marketing manager of Travelodge, I need to fulfil self-
responsibilities which means that I have to take my own obligation of my action for both inside and
outside the normal job duties. Self-responsibilities are related to responsibility that states that what
so ever the mistakes made by me I have been blamed for that mistake. If I have done some good
work then I will be appreciated for my work. Accountability is also important for the organisation
leadership in order to establish positive workplace culture. My responsibility is to communicate and
deal in the honest way with my colleagues and superior.
Indirect responsibilities: It includes mutual responsibilities of the employees in the workplace.
There is a list of it that include proper communication where I need to transfer information in the
formal and hierarchical way and medium of transfer should also be proper and ethical. I should also
inform to my superior for any unethical, suspicious behaviour, I need to work under the ethical code

of conduct made by the company and that codes are mentioned in the employee handbook and
training material in order to achieve consistency in the organisation.
Direct responsibilities: These include different responsibilities that I need to fulfil at the work
environment in the organisation. As, marketing manager I need to assist and guide sales force of the
organisation and delegate roles and responsibilities to them according to their skills and knowledge,
I need to set proper target for distribution of goods and services which must be realistic and
achievable.
My objective as the marketing manager of the Travelodge
There are different objectives which are set by Travelodge for the marketing manager, that
are as follows:
Develop different programs, strategies and policies in order to promote Travelodge
Create and implement tourism marketing plan for the company.
Work closely with the restaurants, hotels/motels and country attraction so that they are able
to promote Travelodge.
Manage different media information and create effective and affordable media to promote
travel and tourism of Travelodge.
Proper research on the promotion strategies for current and future years that will able to
increase the market share of company.
Develop domestic and international tourism.
Different performance based objectives:
Set and monitor performance management in the organisation.
Making different appraisal system for every individual.
Providing bonus to those employees who have worked more than set standard.
Employees should be provided promotion if they have capable skills and knowledge which
helps to improve the morale of the employees.

Providing training to the employee timely so that they are able to enhance their skills and
adopt change in the organisation.
Proper communication techniques should be made learned by the employee so that they can
communicate and transfer information in the proper and professional way.
1.2 Effectiveness of the objectives that have been decided.
There are different techniques which helps to analyse that objective that have been decided
are effective for the organisation or not. This can be analysed by the performance management and
evaluation in the organisation, if the employees are able to perform according to the objective, than
it is said that the objectives are effective and if the employees are not able to perform than objective
can't be achieved. Performance is evaluated by the individual appraisal system and strategies that
comes under it are as follows:
Salary level and bonus payments: I need to decide the standard pay for the salary such as an
employee or individual person of the sales force bring 4 candidates per day for travelling, he would
be paid $20 and if he brings beyond 4 candidates then $10 for each extra traveller he brings. This
system will help me in finding the performance of employee as well as help to identify whether
objectives are achieved or not?
Performance weakness and strength: there are various strengths and weaknesses In me which
help me to achieve objective and face hurdles to perform according to objective. Strength are I have
interpersonal skills where I can communicate in an effective way with my peers and employees and
I can maintain cardinal cordial relationship with the subordinate and workers under me. I dint have
analytical skill where I cant able to analyse data properly and this is my weakness.
1.3 Different recommendations for improvement in the performance and objective.
There are some weakness in me which reduce my performance and due to that I can't able to
achieve my objective. Weakness in me are I don't have effective analytical skills and data mining,
data interpretation and evaluation skills. Different training programs should be organised by the
organisation which will help me to enhance my skills and over come weakness so that I can able to
work according to the objectives.
Travelodge should arrange development programs and seminars for me related to the data
mining, interpretation and evaluation by which I can able to evaluate data and able to find the needs

and wants of the customer which help me to set different marketing strategies. It helps me to
delegate task to the employees in the proper way and according to their skills and knowledge.
1.4 Different motivational techniques that helps employee to improve their performance in the
quality way.
There are different theories such as Motivation Hygiene Theory by Herzberg’s, Need
Theory of McClelland’s, Participation Theory by McGregor’s, Theory Z by Urwick’s etc. but the
most effective theory which helps every employee to enhance its performance that is Need
Hierarchy Theory by Maslow’s. It is the most renown theory of motivation which is totally relied
on the needs of individual. He has divided all individual need into hierarchy which state that if one
demand is fulfil individual will be motivated to fulfil other need and needs increase as the stage
increases and this will help employee to enhance his/her performance. Different stages of need are
as follows:

Stage 1: Physiological needs: It is the basic need of the individual which includes clothing,
food, shelter, air and water ans there are the basic amenities of the life. The author states that
if such needs are not satisfies then the individual motivation will take place to satisfy them,
the employee will not jump to other need such as esteem and social until the basic need is
not satisfied.
Stage 2: Safety needs: As the Physiological needs are fulfilled employee attention will turn
to the safety need so that he/she can fell free for the emotional and physical disasters. This
needs include Living in the safe zone, life and medical insurance, security for job and
financial reserve. If the employee fell that he will be harm in the organisation, then he will
not able to the other need.
Stage 3: Social need: If the employee have achieved the basic and safety need, social one
become important for him. These wants are related to the interaction and communication
with other people so that employee can feel belongingness with others. This may includes
need for the friends and belonging and need to receive and give love to other peers and
superior.
Stage 4: Esteem need: As the employee feel the sense of friendship and belongingness,
other need arises and that need become important for him. Other level of need is esteem
need, this may be internal and external, internal are related to the self esteem such as self
achievement and self respect whereas external are related to the attention, recognition and
reputation.
Stage 5: Self actualisation: It is the last stage for the Maslow's need hierarchy theory. To
achieve this need, employee have to give its best and achieve the need by its full potential
strength. This type of need is never being satisfied. As it is the growing stage, employee
have to learn several skills in the continuous way so that he can able to reach at the top
level. The skills that is need to achieve this stage are morality, problem solving and
creativity.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory motive individual by needs, as the need arises,
employee get motivated to achieve them. This theory helps every employee to understand the

motivational level which help them to enhance their skills and knowledge accordingly. If their skill
will be enhanced, they will able to work in the effective and efficient way in order to improve their
performance to satisfy their needs.
Self motivational factors
There are different self motivational factors that help the individual to improve their skills
and knowledge in order to improve their performance and reach at desired goals, that factors are as
follows:
Positive attitude: It helps employee to achieve its objective. There are several obstacles
which arises when any individual move on the path of achieving the goal, if he thinks that
he can able to do that, than only he will get enthusiasm to reach at goal and if he thinks that
he will not able to remove hurdles, then he will not able to accomplish objective. So,
positive thinks play a motivational to fulfil desired needs.
Recognition: There are many employees who love to enjoy the recognition when he does
good work with full zeal and provide fruitful result to Travelodge. When other employee
notice that and appreciate him, his motivation is triggered to excel at higher level.
Recognition provide motivation to individual for achieving higher level of gaol.

2.1 Problem that is Travelodge hotel is facing and solution to solve that problem
There are several problems that the company is facing such as improper communication
with clients, ineffective co-ordination etc. but the major problem the company is facing are
employee turnover and team work.
Employee turnover
It states that percentage of employee that are leaving the organisation and being replaced by
the new employee. Employee turnover helps the organisation to find the reason that why the
workers are leaving the company and estimation of cost of hire for the purpose of budget. As every
company have employee turnover, if is below the standard than it can be prevented and it crosses
the level of standard at that stage it will ruin the company. There are two types of turnover that are
volunteer and non-volunteer, volunteer is when the employee itself choose to leave the company
which any personal reason and non-volunteer is when organisation terminate the employee and this

decision is taken by the company itself. Turnover rate is the measurement of employee who are
leaving the firm and it is expressed in terms of percentage, mostly it is calculated on the year basis
but sometime it is based on the company. It is calculated by dividing the number of workers who
left by the total number of work force in the beginning of the period. Such as 100 were working in
the beginning of the year and during the year 9 left the company and 15 were lay off then 9% id
volunteer turnover and 15% is non-volunteer and total turnover is 24%.
How turnover is reduced
There are several ways to reduce the employee turnover, that are reduced after knowing the
reason why the workers are leaving the company, that are as follows:
Hiring right people in the company: It is very effective way to reduce employee turnover, by
interviewing the candidate helps the interviewer to identify whether the candidate is eligible to the
post and finding that he/she is interested in the company or not? At the time of analysing the
capability of employee, different skills and knowledge should be examined and it must be ensure
that he/she will able to adopt the culture and environment of the firm because most of the time
employee leaves the firm due to non-adaptability of culture.
Proper compensation and reward: Mostly people work for the earning money so that they can
able to fulfil their personal and family needs. If they will get salary according to the work they are
doing for the company then they will not leave the organisation and on timely basis their salary
should be increased so that they cannot switch for other company. If any individual who is working
hard and producing more than standard or meeting deadline before the time then he should be
rewarded so that he will get motivation and will not leave the firm.
Organising training program: Every individual need training program in which he can able to
enhance his skills and knowledge on time to time. Employee will de-motivated when he will not
able to perform according to the standard because he does not have relevant skills to perform and
his demotivated behaviour force him to leave the company. Organisation have to arrange different
interpersonal and learning programs for the employee which help workers to enhance their skills
and get motivation to work effectively. This will help firm to reduce employee turnover.

Team work
It is the techniques where two or more than two people work collectively in order to achieve
conman goal. Most of the time team work is done in the project or when the problem is complex.it
is the crucial part of the organisation where all the employees need to work well in the group and
try to give their best in any of the circumstances. Team need to cooperate with each other by using
their interaction skills as well as they need to provide feedback despite of conducting conflicts
between the team members. There are various problems that Travelodge hotel is facing related to
team work, that are as follows:
Lack of team identity: In the team, leader is always there who can guide and lead the other
team members, if team leader is missing, members does not know what task they need to
perform and to whom they are accountable. This will lead to lack of commitment, increase
in errors, conflict within the team members and unclear goal.
Difficulty in decision making: If all the members does not agree upon one choice of
alternatives, then best alternative will not been selected and conflicts will be arises, if the
team members are bias and take decision for their own interest will lead to fulfilment of
their personal goal but organisation objective will not achieve.
Improper communication: in a team, every member need to communicate in the proper
way, if not then wrong message will be delivered. If a single ember keep silence in the
meeting, then his needs and opinions are not being identified which may cause conflicts in
the future.
Lack of creativity: A group is made to solve the complex problem or may be made to
implement and execute the project. For both purpose, innovative ideas are needed and lack
of creativity will not solve the problem and improper execution of program.
Ways to solve problem in Team work
Proper leadership: A leader is the person who assist their team member to work in
motivated way. He creates strategies to solve the problem and that strategies are divided into
small task and that task are communicate to the members. He provides guidance to team
members and fill enthusiasm in order to accomplish work. He also helps to remove conflicts
between the team members and fulfil their needs and wants.

Create loyalty: If all the members of the group work in loyal way it will create respect,
mutual trust and cohesiveness. This can be achieved by developing and enforcing
boundaries and guidelines that helps to establish a foundation at which all the members
operates. If these boundaries are not made, all the members will try to dominate other team
members. As this dominating nature will destroy loyalty and trust among members so
boundaries is necessary in order to main integrity in group.
2.2 Different communication styles that helps to communicate problem to the manager.
Communication is categorised into three forms that are verbal, non-verbal and written.
Verbal communication
It is the most important form of communication in which manager and employees are
engaged in daily basis whether to communicate needs, problems, ideas or giving feedback. When
the message is transferred oral than it is verbal. In the verbal communication, sender transfer his/her
thoughts in the form of words. In the organisation, it is done in various ways such as dialogues,
discussion, speech and presentation. In this tone of the speaker, quality of words and pitch plays
very important role. If the tone and words does not match then it creates lots of confusion and miss-
understanding between the individuals. In the verbal communication, sender should understand the
significance of words and way to put them across. While making verbal communication, speech
should make his pitch louder and clear so that the receiver can able to hear it properly
Non verbal communication
A situation were a person can't speak, for example a manager is sitting in the meeting and all
board of directors are also present in that meeting and a manager need to communicate some person
information to their employee who are present in the meeting, at such particular time, non verbal
communication is done. Gestures, facial expression, body language, hand movement and body
posture all of them are included in non-verbal communication. It is, no content is being transferred
from sender to receiver.
Written communication
Most of the time, when information is large, it is given in the written format. This type of
communication create evidence that message is transferred and what message is being transferred.
It plays very significant role in the business world. When ever employee need to communicate
about the problems he is facing, innovative idea for the organisation problem, than that information

is communicated in the written format. It is most valid and reliable than the verbal but have some
drawback that are time consuming and sometime feedback is missing.
2.3 Effective time-management strategies.
Time management is very important part for any employee in the Travelodge hotel, because
there are several activities that an employee need to perform (Sarkar and Rayner, 2016). To manage
them, proper time need to be allotted to each task and if a single work takes large time, then whole
schedule will be delayed and deadline will not be meet on time. Employee need to implement
different strategies so that time can be managed, that are as follows:
Setting goal: The goal should be SMART
Smart: Employee think what they need to do?
Measurable: That goal can be measured and checked by the worker.
Attainable: Objective can be achieved in the standard time frame.
Realistic: That objective can be achieved in real world.
Timely: Objective can be done at particular time frame.
Planning: Various task a employee need to perform, he need to plan that task according to the
priorities, which is deadline. The task which have the nearest deadline, need to achieve first and
according all the work should be plan so that time can be managed (Gledson and Dawson, 2017).

There are several roles that are need to play by the employee in the group so that they can
able to desired common goal, these roles include:
Action oriented: There are different tasks that communicated by the leader in the group,
each task should be fulfils to real at common goal. Every group member need to put their
maximum effort and should take initiative. They should focus on removing hurdles and
avoiding mistake in the task in order to achieve goal.
Thoughts oriented: A group is formed so that every employee input some thoughts and
innovative idea to solve the problem. Everything employee need to analyse the problem in
depth in order to find consequences and cause of the problem. If this task is done in

effective way, then only group members can able to achieve goal (Moore and Morton,
2017).
People oriented: Employee should maintain proper relationship with every group member
and with leader. Effective communication and co-ordinative should be maintained by the
employee so that they can able to work in for the common goal.
3.2 Analysis of team dynamics.
Team dynamics is the semi-conscious and psychological factors that affect the direction of
the team performance and their behaviour. It is created by the characteristics of the team work,
personality in the team and the member's relationship . Tuckman's models is very effective model to
create team dynamics in the organisation, it includes four stages
Forming: In this stage, path is being created by the team, at which all the employee should move so
that they can able to each at goal.
Storming: In this stage, conflicts start between different members because of different views of
every member which create dis-similarities.

the desired goal. If there is loophole in the communication, it will be very hard for the leader and
members of the group to solve the problem as well as transferring of information will become
ineffective. Most important factor that is respect and loyalty, if it is good then it will create healthy
relationship among the members. These ways help them to complete task and reach at goal.

4.1 Methods for developing solution for the problems.
The major problem that Travelodge hotel is facing is lower level employee turnover, they
are not able to retain good employees. For solving this problem, the company need to identify
causes behind that why employees are leaving. This is the best techniques that can be adopted by
the company, if they find reason for the problem (Taylor, 2016). This will help them to reduce
turnover rate and retain capable employees.
4.2 Strategies to solve labour turnover in Travelodge hotel .

There is very large impact of these strategies over the Travelodge hotel, they can able to
reduce employee turnover rate and able to retain fruitful employees in the organisation. By
providing training to the employee, they can able to enhance their skills and knowledge which helps
them to produce quality goods (Quendler, and Lamb, 2016). This helps the company to meet
deadline and fulfil customer orders on time. Employee is now feeling comfort and become the part
of the firm for the long time. This had also reduced the cost of training and cost of defects. Over all
strategies provides fruitful result to the Travelodge hotel.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the project report that manager need to develop different roles and
responsibilities in order to compete desired objectives. Moslow's need hierarchy theory is the
effective motivational theory by which marketing manager get motivation to fulfil their personal
and organisational objectives. Effective time management strategies have also been included in the
report which helps employees to meet deadlines. Travelodge hotel was facing high turnover, where
they have adopted different strategies to overcome that problem. By implementing that strategies,
the company can able to retain good employees as well as workers able to enhance skill by different
develop met programs organised by the firm.
