Additionally, it requires an analysis of six sources focusing on employability skills among graduates in various fields, their perceptions (Wickramasinghe & Perera, 2010; Wilton, 2011), and the views of employers (Yuzainee et al., 2011). INTRODUCTION
Employability skills includes set of skills, behaviour and knowledge which are necessary
for performing a specific job. It can also be known as soft or foundational skills. Company
should hire best qualified employees so that they can perform in more effective and efficient
manner and can also contribute in the success of business. For getting positive result,
organisation should provide training to their staff so that they will become best for performing
their specific job and will also drive the firm into right direction of success. In today competitive
environment, company is spending their lots of time in employee development so that it can be
able to achieve competitive advantages over its rivals. This project is based on Travel Lodge
Hotels Limited, which is a leading independent hospitality company in the United Kingdom.
This report will explain about roles and responsibility of a manger which will be aligned with
objectives of firm. It will also state about various work based problem and time management
strategies which will assist employees in managing their work effectively and efficiently.
TASK 1
1.1 Set of own responsibilities and performance objectives
In organisation, every manager and employee have some duties that should be fulfilled by
them timely so that company can attain its desired results. Travelodge hotel is known for its
high-quality services which it provides to consumers at affordable prices. In organisation, there
are various departments such as catering, finance, accommodation, front office, etc. for which
managers are totally responsible as they have to ensure that whether all sections are performing
according to the specific standards or not. Also, they are required to check if employees are
completing their task within stipulated period of time so that objectives can be achieved in
proper manner. Being the manager of Travelodge Hotel, I have to fulfilled various
responsibilities such as:
RESPONSIBILITIES
 Facilities: I have to ensure that whether services or facilities are provided to the
consumers in a proper manner and according to the quality standards or not. If employees
are not serving accordingly, then I need to take corrective actions. I will organize
evaluation process in which performance of staff will be evaluated.

 Performance evaluation: Being the manager, I have to evaluate performance of workers
so that performance gaps can be identified and removed.
 Proper information: To provide necessary information to Human Resource department
regarding employee’s performance and their effectiveness.
For improvement in his activities, manager has to set certain objectives regarding
performance which are given as below:
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
 To identify the needs or wants of consumers so that they can be served effectively and
efficiently and will be able to satisfy the needs or wants of consumers. If manager will
have knowledge about the requirement of target market then he can give this information
to the company so that they can design their goods or services accordingly so that it can
capture large market share.
 To improve own performance by 60% which can be possible from various ways such as
to take suggestion of senior manager regarding any issues in the job, take feedbacks
about own performance from colleagues or subordinates.
 To handle consumers complaints and provide appropriate solutions to them as soon as
possible so that they will remain in the company for long period of time. If consumers
will be satisfied then they will spread positive word of mouth in the society which will
aid in increasing company' sales and revenue.
 If Travelodge hotel wants to evaluate the performance of manager then it can ask to his
subordinates who will tell about his behaviour as well as his performance. For evaluating
performance, annual report of company can also be used which will involve the
information of performance of manager.
1.2 Evaluation of my effectiveness against defined objectives
Performance objectives aid in achieving the desired goals and objectives as it provides
direction to an individual with respect to perform his job effectively and efficiently. For
analysing own performance, manager should evaluate his performance against the targets that are
set by him. That position which are held by me, should require various skills and knowledge
such as communication, quick decision-making ability etcetera.

Being the manager, I have to handle these critical situations in an effective manner so that
employees will be motivated and perform their jobs efficiently. If I will not lead them then they
will not focus on their work and would not contribute in the success of company.
A manger of Travelodge has main objective to manage the operation of company so that
it can achieve its desires or specified objectives. Performance objectives should be specific,
measurable, achievable, time bound and realistic. A manager performance can be measured from
answering the following question that are given below-
 How employees are performing their duties and are producing best result.
 How operations are going on?
 Its activities are providing positive result to the company or not etc.
Apart from this, there are various other methods by which my own performance can be
evaluated which are as follows: Feedback from colleagues- It is the best method to evaluate own performance against set
in objectives as other people observe drawbacks more which will be given in feedback. It
also provides support in improving inter-personal skills to a new level. Direct supervision- In this, senior manager evaluates the performance and also guides me
in the right direction. They have more experience which is helpful in developing my own
skills and capabilities.
 Evaluation of performance against the set of objectives- Every person have some
objectives and goals that they want to achieve in future. So with the help of this, I can
evaluate my own performance. Such as- if I will get my set of objectives then it will be
assumed that my performance was according to the standards that's why I achieved my
goals.
Above mentioned methods have some benefits and drawbacks such as main advantage is
that it will aid in knowing about own performance that it was according to the expectations or
not. With the help of this, manager will be able to improve himself by which he will be able to
achieve his goals. While it has also some limitations such as colleagues may be jealous from
success of manager then they can give wrong feedback.

1.3 Recommendations for improvement
Every individual want to get success in their life so for getting this, they have to improve
themselves so that they can achieve it. There are certain recommendations which I should follow
for improving and enhancing my own skills and knowledge. These suggestions are as follows:
 Should conduct several motivation activities and programmes within the organisation
 Must effectively evaluate and measure the actual performance and involvement of
employees for achieving objectives and goals.
 Should try to develop healthy and effective working environment within the organisation
Manager should improve his decision making ability so that he can manage business
operation in effective and efficient manner and will contribute in the success of company. This
skill can be improved by attending various learning events such as training and development
programme.
Travelodge should organise periodically conference and seminars in which customer
service advisor will gain knowledge about their particular working area. Supervisor should guide
to his subordinates on a regular basis so that they can perform as per specified standards. A 360
degree feedback should be taken which will be related to the job and improvement should be
done on the basis of feedback. Training event should be conducted which will aid in increasing
knowledge and skills of man power. KRA [Key Result Area] for existing should be prepared
which will assist in improving job.
A performance criteria should be set on the basis of personal data, judgemental data and
rating methods by which evaluation process can be carried out easily and effectively.
1.4 Motivational techniques which is used to improve quality of performance
Motivation is very important because motivated employees can perform their job more
effectively and efficiently as comparison to others. Workers can be motivated through various
ways that can be used by Travelodge hotel which are given below- Training and development- It is very important activity in an organisation because today
world is competitive where there is more competition. So, for attaining competitive
advantages, employees should be skilled as well as should be capable (Andrews and
Russell, 2012). For achieving this, training is very important which increases skills and
knowledge of workers and also motivates the man power for doing work as per specified
standards.

 Transportation facilities- Transit problem is the biggest issue of employees so for
motivating workers, organisation should provide transport facility to them. It is a non-
monitory motivation technique. If staff will get this facility then they will not have to face
any problem while moving from home to office then they will feel comfort. So they will
not leave the organisation and will perform effectively and efficiently. Housing facility- Travelodge company should provide housing facility to those
employees who are performing well because it will motivate the other workforce to do
job in a better manner so that they can avail this facility. For attaining this, they will give
their 100% to the firm. Rewards- It is a monetary technique in which company gives reward to that employees
who are performing according to the standards and are providing best result to the
enterprise. If firm will give cash to workforce then it will motivate to other people for
doing better job.
 Bonus- It can also be used for motivating workers. If organisation proposed to give
bonus to employees then everyone will give their best for increasing the surplus of
company so that they will get more bonus (Baker and Henson, 2010). So, for getting
better result, company should use above mentioned methods for motivating employees so
that they will give their efforts according to their potential.
TASK 2
2.1 Solution to various problems in organisation
It is essential to concentrate on various problems and issues, during functioning of a
particular company. Hence, problems and conflicts may be raised due to miss understanding
among employees and employers (Benson, Morgan and Filippaios, 2014). basically, within the
organisation having several issues and problems which directly impacts on working performance
and productivity level of company. So that it is necessary to be resolve them with the help of
smart solutions. Further, negative environment and conflicts through developed unhealthy
surrounding due to employees cannot able to effectively perform their tasks as well as they
cannot achieve their decided targets in a systematic manner. Travelodge is having a different
teams and it has recruited many people in the organisation. Many of the time conflicts in the
employees (personal issues) has occur which impacts on the work place environment and it slow

down the productivity of people so it is essential for the managers to work on it immediately
which can help to the company to retain their workings on fast track. So that there are explaining
appropriate solution for resolving problems and issues in between the members are here;
 Analysis of parties involved in issues: Managers has to take a formal meeting with both
parties which can help to identify the basic cause of the conflict. On the basis of it
manager has to take an action which resolves issue and also decrease possibility to occur
in the future.
Negative feedbacks from clients is a serious issue for the company because it directly creates an
adverse impact on the brand image and sales so it is essential to resolve with appropriate solution
which is here;
 Consultation by executive: It is essential for the company to resolve this kind of issue as
soon as possible which can help to the organisation to retain their customers. They have
to take a personal client meet with each and a marketing executive has to analyse their
problems and gather more informations from them on the issue. He has to take their
suggestions also which can be useful to implemented by the company for the betterment.
 Development by managers: Executive has to describe all information to marketing
manager. Marketing manager and other managers has to use recommended solutions
which can help to company to decrease possibilities to make a negative impact on the
customers.
2.2 Different style of communication
Communication is a continues process, with the help of this easily and effectively transfer
information one person to another. There are available different types of communication
methods and styles, which assist to achieve goals and objectives in appropriate manner. In the
context of Travelodge, this is one of the biggest company in hospitality sector in UK. The major
aim and objective of the firm is to develop healthy and clear communication process, so that
conflicts and issues of miss understanding are easily resolved. There are available several types
of communication method, which explained under as:
 Verbal communication: This type of communication related with thoughts and ideas of
an individual persons expressed by with spoken words. In the context of this
organisation, it is important that mangers of company should motivate to their employees

towards achieve goals and their targets (Dhiman, 2012). With using verbal
communication method in their working environment.
 Non-verbal communication: This is another communication method, which is
representing by without utilising spoken words. Along with this, in non-verbal
communication style does not using words and verbal interaction way, for transfer
information one person to another so gesture, written documents, eye contact, body
language etc. can be used (Jones and Iredale, 2010). In the addition of this, both these
communication methods assist to transfer information in appropriate manner. Verbal and
non-verbal communication style can be used as per the situation in business firm.
Moreover, better and smart interaction method helps to enhance understanding among
employees and employers. With the help of this, workers and managers of this
organisation can easily and deficiently achieve goals and objectives.

which aids in doing most important work first. Sequencing of work- Manger should make a proper sequence of activities so that people
can complete their task accordingly. Decentralisation of authority: Giving some authority to employees will assist them in
completing their task effectively.
 Measurement: It is needed to make changes and reduce variances. If company will adopt
time management strategies then it will be able to complete their work on time by which
organisation will be able to achieve its desired result within specified period.

3.1 Roles people play in a team and process of working together to achieve shared goals
In Travelodge hotel, a team is made which includes large number of employees who
belong to different department. It is very beneficial for an organisation because with the help of
team work, task can be completed within specified period of time and in an effective and
efficient manner (Koen, Klehe and Van Vianen, 2013). For a team, it is necessary there they
should have specified objective so that they can take action into right direction. To make a team,
is the most complex task for a business but with the help of team, organisation will be able to
achieve long term as well as short term goal. Team members have to play different types of
roles such as- Shaper role- These persons are those who want to take challenge in their life. They
always have positive attitude whether it is critical situation. This positivity aids in
providing better result to the company. Implementer role- This kind of people brings their idea into real that means they take
corrective action for attaining the specified result. Coordinator role- These people maintain proper coordination among different activities
which helps in achieving positive result or pre-specified outcome. Monitor role- In every business, there is a person who acts as a monitor who has main
responsibility to take care of all activities as well as to guide the team member so that
they can perform according to the standards.
 Team worker- These are the people who make effort to ensure the unity of a team.
Maintaining the team spirit is very important because a team can better solve a problem

use them effectively and efficiently.
Team dynamics are very beneficial for a company because it contributes in the success of
the company because it includes various factors which influence the performance of team at the
time of working. It also maintains behavioural relationship among group members.
Manager or leader should take corrective action for controlling the team so that its
members will not influence its activities in negative manner. So, it is the responsibility of
manager to minimize the effect of dynamics so that it will not affect enterprise in a negative way.
Team dynamics creates by the personalities of team members and other people working in the
enterprise (Rosenberg, Heimler and Morote, 2012).
While maintaining a team, manager has to face various problems. In an organisation,
there are financial and non-financial resources which helps in keeping skills and knowledge of

communication, problem solving etc. (Ryan, 2012) There are many alternative ways by which
task can be completed within period of time that are given below- Participation- By this method, team will be able to achieve its goals in an effective and
efficient manner. According to this way, manager should invite the members to give their
suggestion in an important process. This method motivates the people for doing their
work an effective and efficient manner. They feel themselves as a part of team and also
perform accordingly. Empowerment- It means to gain knowledge and skills which will allow team members to
take all important decision regarding their operations. If an individual will have good
knowledge and skills then he will be able to guide other members which will aid the team
people in producing desired result or outcome.
 Feedbacks- A leader should take regular feedback from his subordinates regarding their
performance which will aid the manager to know about the drawbacks of performance.
After knowing about this, leader can take corrective action which will aid in attaining the
specified objectives. With the help of this, manager will be able to understanding and
resolving issues that are prevailing between employees and management (Saunders and
Zuzel, 2010). To complete the task and to achieve goals, Travelodge can follow the
above-mentioned ways by which it can move forward towards the way of success.

4.1 Tools and methods for developing solutions to problems
In Travelodge company, there are many issues which should be resolved in a proper
manner so that firm can run their business effectively and efficiently. These issues can be
resolved by company through following the methods which are given below-

 Mathematics- This method is the best solution for resolving an issue which can also be
known as algorithm. It is a famous way because it provides a standard way for sought out
problem that are existing in the company. If organisation will use this then it is assumed
that it will produce positive result by which issues can be resolved. Along with benefits,
it has also some disadvantages such as it is time consuming process and also require an
expert who knows about its formulas and equations (Terrell, Richardson and Hamilton,
2011). Trial and error method- This method will be suitable in that period of time when all
available methods are not working properly. It is applicable in that situation where
numbers are different but those are not functioning. It is very helpful in reducing chances
of strategy failure and expand the productivity of company as well as of its employees.
 Heuristics- This technique can only be used by those company which have experienced
person. It is not necessary that it will work in every situation. This tool is used at that
period of time when issues are arising in a continuous basis by different elements. Its
main problem is that it solves only straightforward critical situation and also to those
issues which are major in nature.
Apart from above mentioned methods, there are also other techniques which can be used
by organisation such as brainstorming which is also very popular method and used for sorting
out issue with a plan derived after doing long discussion.
4.2 Appropriate strategy for resolving the problem of labour turnover
There is various type of strategy by which problems can be resolved that are given
below- Understand the problem- Identification of problem is very important because without
having knowledge about particular problem, no one will be able to identify particular
corrective action. So, for getting best solution, company should identify the issue first. Set plan- Next step is to set plan by which problems can be sought out. It is very
important step because it provides a direction by which issues can be resolved easily and
effectively. In this, various best possible alternatives are collected which will aid in
achieving the desired result (Torres-Machí and et.al., 2012).

 Select best options- After collection of all possible solutions, best alternative is selected
which will provide best result. Option is chosen after conducting comparison among
various choices and on the basis of prevailing situation, best solution is selected. Implementation- After selection of best strategy, it should be needed to implement so
that problems can be removed from workplace and organisation will be able to carry out
operation smoothly.
 Monitoring- After implementation of best strategy, manager has responsibility to monitor
the progress or process so that company can attain its desired result or outcome. While
monitoring, management can know that who are working according to the standards or
who are not by which they will be able to take corrective action (Wibrow, 2011).
Basically, senior manager should make plans and should also develop reward system
which will help in improving performance of employees.
4.3 Impact on the business of implementing the strategy
In today competitive environment, strategy plays an important role because it provides
direction or guidance to the company to move into right way. It should be adopted by Travelodge
because it will help the company in removing uncertainties and issues from workplace. Effective
and appropriate strategies are helps to develop healthy working environment with the
organisation so that employees or staff members will systematically perform their tasks as well
as achieve their goals and objectives. Smart and appropriate strategies are helps to enhance
working performance and involvement of employees. Thus, impressive strategies and methods
are helpful to increase profitability and productivity of the company. Hence, there are explaining
actual and positive impacts of strategies on selected hotel such as follows: Goals- Every companies have their decided goals and objectives, which they seeks to be
achieve in future so that they can develop their business firm in a effective and efficient
manner. Thu, appropriate strategies are assist achieve targets and goals of the company as
well as helps to getting success within competitive market place. Target can be long term
as well short term which can be achieved by adopting effective strategy by the enterprise
(Wickramasinghe and Perera, 2010). Motivation- In the other hand, effective strategies and methods within the organisation
assist to motivate employees or staff members towards their works as well as targets.
While company's staff members perform their tasks with highly confidence and

motivation level so their result and outcomes are also appropriate in nature. Highly
motivated persons are assist to increase revenue of the firm as well as helps to getting
success within the competitive environment. Financial impact: Decrease in the labour turnover rates will help in better service
generation for targeted customers. After the implementation of this strategy labour
turnover has decreased by 10% in the company which helps them to design better
packages by analysing needs of the customers. It has supported to enhance 4% profits
after 2 quarters of the strategy implementation.
 Non financial impact: It has helped to resolve issues of different team of the organisation
which helped to the company to [provide a better assistance to the targeted customers. It
helped to employees to work in a better manner with out having any type of mental
pressure on them.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it is concluded that in hospitality organisation, there are various
issues which are prevailing in this sector. It also states that a manager has to perform various
responsibility such as to evaluate quality standards of services etc. If company wants to get better
result then it should hire those employees who have skills or knowledge for performing their job
so that they will contribute in the success of firm. For getting positive result, firm should
motivate to their employees so that they will give their 100% in the success of company.
Workers can be motivated by giving bonus, rewards, housing facilities etc.
